North East Computer Systems (NECS), have been featured on LowEndBox a fair few times before. Whilst Newcastle based NECS have been in business since 2005 (company no. (5504556)), they only began to provide VPS services in June 2012. Their servers are using the E3-1230 CPU, 32 DDR3 ECC RAM and RAID 10 Enterprise SAS Drives with the Raid Controller with BBU. Looking back at previous posts, NECS consistently receive very good reviews.

NECS currently only accept payments via PayPal. They offer a 7 day money back guarantee and a 99.9% uptime SLA. As they’re VAT registered (927 2078 19), non-VAT registered European Union citizens will have to pay an additional 20% in VAT. Additional IPv4 addresses are charged at £3.75GBP Quarterly. As well as email and whmcs support, support can be provided over the telephone. For more information, do take a look at their Terms & Conditions.

Servers are located at the RapidSwitch datacenter in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

If I pay monthly what is the contract term and notice (if any)? Are gameservers allowed?

    • NECS:

      Hi Hybs,

There is no contract and you can cancel as and when you like. Game servers are allowed as long as the do not abuse our terms and conditions.

Do you have any offers on KVM as I just realised this is OpenVZ and I’d need it for kernel devel

    • NECS:

      Hi Dan,

The use of game servers is allowed as long as they do not abuse our TOS. We appreciate that some game servers can use excessive resources in which case we would discourage them. We monitor our nodes 24/7 so we can ensure that everyone has a fair share of resources.

  10. What a load of shit offers (as Infinity would say). 256MB OpenVZ for £24/yr ($36/yr)!? Are you guys on drugs? Weren’t UrPad doing something similar, albeit with less HDD and bandwidth for $12/yr in the UK!

    September 18, 2013 @ 11:44 am | Reply
    • Urpad isn’t NECS! Everybody is different. :P

Thanks for your sardonic input @asterisk14 bur NECS will never attempt to compete on price alone, I am sure there are cheaper offerings all over and that is fantastic for everyone to have such a massive choice.

      September 19, 2013 @ 3:09 am | Reply
    • I remember seeing someone I know use of of those Urpad VPS’s and it took about 30 minutes to complete an uptime command and then lost connection after about 2 hours of waiting for yum to even get started.

So yeah.. if that’s what you want you should pay $12..

I don’t have an OpenVZ I have a KVM with NECS that is at 100% uptime and its now the only LEB I use on any regular basis.

  11. Hybs:

Ordered a KVM with them, had to cancel since the disk I/O was too low at 30-45mb/s for the purpose I wanted it for. Otherwise it would have been a good vps for me.

    • NECS:

      Hi Hybs,

Please can you let me know what you ran to test the disk IO. I have just ran a simple DD test on the same node and got much higher speeds:

      dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
      16384+0 records in
      16384+0 records out
      1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 4.1688 s, 258 MB/s

      September 19, 2013 @ 10:49 am | Reply
      • Hybs:

I ran the same standard dd test and I tried both the ide and virtio driver, both came in at 30-45mb/s which noticeably reduced the vps performance. The OS was debian 6.0.5 autoinstalled with nothing changed.

I’ve commented on these guys before, but thought its worth doing so again on this offer. for anyone still wondering whether to sign up or not …

NECS really are a ‘premium’ provider of VPS, I’ve got a couple of cheap VPS’s with off-shore (I’m in the UK) providers for non critical apps, testing etc.

But for our main 2 production servers we use NECS to host them, the fact they’re UK based and can be contact so easily is a huge plus point for me … I’ve had one major issue since I started with them 2+ years ago and this was resolved well within SLA (and professionally).

Since then I’ve upgraded the spec on my servers a few times, which is never a problem to do, and all my support tickets are answered within the hour they’re raised.

Won’t be moving away from NECS any time soon, keep up the great service guys! :)

  15. Just thought I’d post a quick note/experience about NECS just in case anyone’s looking at their latest offers and wondering whether they’re reliable etc …

I’ve been with NECs for 3+ years now and have 2 business critical VPS’s (one Windows and one Linux) with them. Their uptime, support and overall service is exceptional.

Whilst I have 2 off-shore VPS’s for development and testing, I needed UK based servers for web, DB, IRC and e-mail functions.

I’ve had one technical issue since I started with them and that was resolved within SLA, with a response to the ticket made just minutes after I opened it.

Upgrades and changes to VPS config’s also aren’t an issue, and in all of my cases we’re done the same day with no issues at all.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend NECS for reliable UK based VPS hosting, and intend to stay with them for a good while yet! :)
