LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Neosurge - $15.95/Year 128MB XEN PV in Chicago & San Jose

Brian, from Neosurge, has emailed in this exclusive offer. The offer appears to be the same one that we featured in October, albeit a dollar cheaper.

Neo-1 VPS

  • 128MB RAM
  • 128MB Swap
  • 1 CPU Core
  • 5GB Raid10 Diskspace
  • 1000GB Bandwidth
  • 10Mbps Port Speed
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • XEN/SolusVM
  • Coupon: cheapvps_LEB
  • $15.95/Year | Order Link

Neosurge have been featured on here several times since May 2009. Whilst they’ve been on LowEndBox for an impressive four years, according to their website they have been in business since 2002! Paypal and GoogleCheckout are both accepted. Refunds can be granted within 24 hours of ordering. Do have a read of their Terms of Service before purchasing. I’ve had a quick look and reviews seem to be mixed. It would be great if any current customers could contribute with their feedback.

  1. I’ve been a customer almost since day one back in 2002-2003. Since then I have experienced nothing but consistent uptime and prompt customer service. I’ve used many different CMS’s over the years and Neosurge has helped support each one, painlessly. They have kept up with the latest and greatest to say the least. I have recommended their services to everyone I have dealt with and will continue to do so.

We’re a private corporation and host our own well trafficked website and several other small related companies. We’re extremely happy with this company and the service provided. Brian (the owner) is very responsive to the problems we have from time to time and has taken care of them even when they were our own fault. We were looking for some cheap vps servers and didn’t realize they sold them until we saw the ad here. I thought I’d leave a review first before contacting them about this deal.

I have mixed feelings about NeoSurge.
Ordered a VPS on the offer in october and used it as a VPN host.
The HDD speed is quite slow compared to my other VPS (urpad 12$ and edis vrs), apt-get update takes two times longer than urpad. CPU is a bit outdated too and only consumer-grade (Q9550), although the uptime and cpu speed is okay. Since i read their new offer now, i have a slight hint why my network speed is limited to 10 mbit since some time. Changed without a notice and what’s the point of using a VPN limited 10mbit. Won’t renew or buy again, sorry.

    • Only our lowest plan is limited to 10Mbps. Also, we have a variety of hardware. Most new accounts are put on Xeon class CPU with raid10.

I don’t critize the fact that your current plan is limited to 10Mbps but that you limited existing plans as well without any notice.

        • The neo-1 plan was always limited to 10Mbps.

        • Jevermeister:

Not sure about this because download isn’t limited and as i was testing from europe, i thought 10 Mbit/s is quite okay until i found out that the test files are much faster. Don’t remember if it was always like this but the last offer didn’t mention this limitation.

          — . (ext3 /dev/xvda1) ioping statistics —
          1000 requests completed in 1000420.6 ms, 781 iops, 3.1 mb/s
          min/avg/max/mdev = 0.0/1.3/61.2/4.0 ms

regarding HDD. As i said, i have mixed feelings about this provider.

    • Also to note, this plan is using Xen PV, comparisons to openVZ VPS are not apples to apples.

Ah and their test files aren’t limited to 10mbit. Try it yourself. Network was okay before the limitations.

Totally agree with Jevermeister about HDD, the HDD became very very slow recently. I even need to wait for more then 2 second for executing ls command and there are less than 10 files in the directory.

    • Do you have a ticket open on this issue? I’m sure we can resolve any problems you’re having with I/O speed.

      • Neil:

I submitted a ticket. To be honest, your VPS is very stable until recent weeks. Short time downtime is acceptable, but the HDD problem is terrible, hope you could solve the HDD performance problem.

        • Now that we have a helpdesk ticket open from you, it can be resolved. Please note that we cannot fix issues unless we’re made aware of them through helpdesk tickets.

Okay, the server is under technical problem, this is acceptable since no one can guarantee the hardware will never get a problem. Thank you for your quick response.

  7. EGIHosting’s Network Backbone is currently optimized by 4 Routes (nLayer, HE, Level 3 and the other RETN-AS). Although, only 4 but very well-known rock-solid providers. ;)

Steadfast Network has 8 Routes and all are very well known such as nLayer, Cogent, Level 3, HE, Tinet etc.

From this, Steadfast Network seems to be stable more than Egi’s ;)

    Btw, Nice offer.

    • Probably not on EGI.

Alas, I can’t seem neosurge paying out the butt to get access to all of the providers EGI has on-net.

Realistically, and given some of the threads i’ve seen come up on WHT for them, they’re getting heavily favoured over HE.

Maybe it helps if I start posting my experience here?

I know. I also complied with that request that very same day on 10/22/2012. This was ignored by Neosurge (check the 3 tickets).

Paypal has however the following policy: “All claims must be filed within 45 days of the transaction or the claim will be denied.”

So I can’t file a claim through Paypal.

I have (well, had) one of their tiny VPS, which ran fine for a few months.

Now it’s down for 4 days(!). On first inquiry (4 days ago) they said they’re working on it but gave no ETA.
My second ticket is now unanswered for 24h, with the VPS still down…

Not worth the hassle imho. I’m willing to tolerate some downtime on such a cheap host, but four days (and counting), and without any status update, is a little too much.

I have no idea why they don’t just move me to a different server or give me a new VPS if the old one is irrecoverable.

Since they’re not even responding I can only advise against using this host…

  28. I’ve been with Brian since he first started and although he provided good service then, now he does not. Last year I took down most of my 20+ sites with him and moved them to another server as Neosurge was getting hacked and my sites were getting overwritten constantly. Of course, I was blamed that I did not update my wordpress files nor my plugins enough. But since I have moved the sites I have not been hacked one time! And I’m not doing anything differently. I left one site on his server because I hadn’t time to back it up and move it yet and now it is down and I have no idea when it will be back up and though I filed a help desk ticket this morning I’m sure based on last year’s escapade that it will be days before I hear anything from him. Spend a little more and get something more secure and more reliable!

  34. neosurge.com… 6 weeks without hosting and counting

Since 4/8/13 my web gone away… nothing works, all data dissapeared, no mail, mailing list, redirections, etc…

neosurge don’t respond to support tickets. After 3 weeks responded with “we are working on it”… nothing happened after that.

I can’t recover my own backup because the hosting is broken, no home directory, extrange problems wiht cpanel, a total mess.

I don’t know what to do other than report the situation in the forums.

I have been a customer for 5 years, and I have many problems with the hosting, and the tech support always was slow, but I never expected such a disastrous situation in which nothing works and all seems lost.

    Beware with neosurge.com.

    Regards.

    NeoSurge merges with CyberLynk
On June 6th 2013 NeoSurge merged with CyberLynk. All active NeoSurge clients should have received an email from CyberLynk outlining the migration to the CyberLynk Customer Portal as well as the migrations of the Chicago based VPS’s to CyberLynks’s Milwaukee data center. All support tickets should now be opened via the CyberLynk Customer Portal or via the email addresses given in the merger email. All billing information has also been migrated to the CyberLynk Customer Portal.
