LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
I had a VPS with Neosurge a couple of years ago. It was solid.
Support operator on the website was very friendly and helpful :-)
I had a VPS with them, the cheapest one. The VPS was EXTREMELY slow (maybe an oversold box). I canceled by their control panel, yet they still kept charging me via PayPal. I should have known and canceled the paypal subscription the same day.

Sam,
I find your statements very curious, as I cannot find a customer under your name that had ordered VPS services.
1) We do not oversell our services, in fact it is impossible with xen based hosting. We use latest generation Xeon CPU’s with raid10 raid edition hard drives. There are almost zero complaints about speed from our services.
2) We instruct all customers at time of cancellation to cancel their paypal subscriptions as well. All paypal disputes are handled promptly as well, so there is no way that you were overcharged for anything.
The thread on WHT was obviously untrue, as we have not gone out of business and that was almost a year ago made by someone spreading misinformation. We sold off our dedicated and colocation services in order to focus solely on VPS hosting.
Brian,
What you say or not, the service provided was terrible. I find it very hard to believe that you have never had a customer with my name “Sam(uel)”.
In regards to selling off dedicated/colo services, why have you only just recently updated your website to reflect these changes when that thread was from over 9 months ago?
Again, I’ve looked through and cannot find any records in your name but I’ll take your word for it. We’ve been working hard to improve customer service and the speed of everything. Perhaps it was a networking issue or something else causing the problems. In any case, I’m sorry that you had a bad experience.
The sale didn’t happen until earlier this year and it took a couple months to get the new site online. We do not simply use pre-made templates and it took a while to work with the design team and get everything 100% ready. During that time, we were referring business to the party that purchased those divisions of our company.
Good to hear that you’re improving, maybe soon I will try NeoSurge again.
Great to see that you have updated your ToS to not be so restrictive (allowing IRC chit chat) :)
It is very easily possible to oversell anything with xen, it is not IMPOSSIBLE.
It may be possible, but we do not over commit ram and keep disk I/O available for all users. We’ve gone to careful lengths to choose proper hardware to ensure that it works with our offerings so that there are plenty of resources for all.
Comparatively speaking to openVZ, xen has superior resource isolation and less issues due to server overcrowding.
Looks pretty nice. Those little resource price sliders are catching on :P
Mark,
Thank you for the kind words!! Is it possible to get listed on your site?
I had vps from neosurge some time ago, site it hosted (strictly speaking it was reverse proxy) was using ~300GB of bandwith monthly and worked fine :)
Thanks for the kind words Xenu!!
