Nixcom - CAD$1.99 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Canada Exclusive Offer

Updated October 2011: Martin from Nixcom has decided to terminate the service. See this comment and replied comments for discussions.

Nix Communications I have actually not logged into WHT for quite a few days because I kept on getting those “exclusive” offer from the providers. Thanks for the support. But do note that being “exclusive offer” to LowEndBox does not mean it is a verified and approved offer here, and a guarantee that the provider will never do a runner :) Just want to make it clear.

Martin from Nix Communications has emailed me this new exclusive offer to LowEndBox readers — Canada based OpenVZ cheap boxes. Two offers here

  • Offer 1 (sign up link)
  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 5GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • $1.99/month or $4.99/Quater
  • Offer 2 (sign up link)
  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • $3.99/month or $10.99/Quater

Probably the best Canada VPS offers at the moment. Servers are with Canix Data Center at Montreal Canada. Test IP: 67.215.8.226. I believe the cost are in Canadian Dollars. Check previous offers from them for some comments on Nixcom in general. Nix Communications has also been using non-RAID drives on production so just need to remember take regular backups, as a single drive failure would mean sayonara to your data.

I have one with him last promo, there has been just one short downtime. Now order once more. I think the price/quality would be pertinent. Bon travail, alors.

Hello, I had taken their last XEN promo and used it for month but then left them because of quite often reboots (aproximately every 4-5 days if remember correctly). It was not a big problem for me, but it makes no best impression to me. They have sent mail claiming it was problem of only one their node so maybe I was just unlucky…

  7. FYI, headline says CAD1.99 but it charged me 1.99 in USD. The current exchange rate is close to 1 but it’s not exactly 1 (it’s like 0.97) so…

  9. Setup took a few hours but server seems pretty fast. Only hiccup was the root password was not set to the one I specified at signup time and as indicated in the welcome email. However, the control panel password was correct so I set the root password from there.

  13. We receiving new ip today, so stay tuned we gonna add more stocks! :) thank you all for good comments, and for trying our service.

Rdns are setup in the same day normally, but recently we got a little issue with our dns server, so it took more time to propagate. For the rest, all seems to be working pretty fast and stable! :)

  14. Waiting on some new stock on this one. Think I’ll get one of these.. I have 2x USA hosted servers, 1x Germany. Adding Canada to the list would be nice. LEB is making me poor $15 at a time. :)

Just want to vouch for Martin. I had some unusual requirements for Asterisk/FreePBX install and Martin gladly helped me out with a few mods and installs on the OpenVZ host, where I obviously don’t have access to. Very satisfied so far. Will order again when need a Canadian VPS.

Signed up yesterday afternoon for the $1.99 plan, VPS creation took around ~6hours with the default 32bit Centos install. Signed in and all looks well , I already own a Dallas VPS with another company so I will use this one for some python distributed networking testing and ssh proxying/irssi when needed, no complaints on my end.

  23. @LowEndAdmin Any ETA at this point?

    November 10, 2010 @ 5:28 pm | Reply
    • Well. Maybe I’ll post them here?

      W512-oLEB1 package (direct order link)

      • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
      • 20GB storage
      • 500GB/month data transfer
      • $5.99/month

Why didn’t I post it on the front page? I found it no better than this WHT offer that I posted 2 months ago, which gives twice the HDD and is still available. Both are from the same provider (Nix Communications), so why would a customer choose “LowEndBox special” rather than the “WHT special”?

      November 11, 2010 @ 7:03 am | Reply
  24. This new offer is instant setup, it is the first time we offer instant to users. WHT offer is not instant setup :)

  25. innya:

So, if you want instant process, customer will be provided with half the disk space. Unless they want to wait for the verification process in order to get full disk space.

    That doesn’t make sense.
Anyway this is LEB special for LEB users get only half the disk space.

  26. There is nothing about less space??? The post that lebadmin said is no longer available. This is new plans coming with instant activation, that’s it :)

Update since signing up. no issues so far.. slightly higher ping compared to my other 2 VPS’s since i’m in Florida, but fits my needs. Only thing I wish was that they had an autopay Paypal service, I keep forgetting to pay and got my VPS suspended twice. The other two VPS companies I deal with get their payments sent automatically monthly.

  40. They have shut down. Check for yourself at the main site:

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

This is a sad day for Nix Communications. We are planning to close our business for some different reasons:

First of all, everybody knows that I was working hard on my own to offer the best price and service I can offer on the market. When health problems come, we have to make the good choice. I’m choosing to take a break of all that. I need to stay focus on myself and be sure to be in shape to have a great living life.

Now the main problem resulting to that decision:

When I was thinking about that decision, I’ve looked at myself and said: “I cannot to that. I can’t let down all my customers and the reputation I’ve made under the name of Nixcom”. At this point, I was ready to give it a try whatever the doctor, friends and so ever said. Then comes a big surprise. Tried to login to the billing system to check all tickets waiting, but nothing seems to work. It seems something happened to the data. No problem, I got a backup! Looking to take the last day backup but on the offsite server where it was located, there was no data on it at all! I decided to check all logs, and it seems that someone has been able to access both server and have some fun. At the moment, I do not have any data on my customers. What’s paid? What’s unpaid? What remaining time a customer has to be refund? Nothing but dust.

I got no choice to close down that business, and I am really sorry to announce it like this. I always been honest with everyone and that’s why I’m posting that text on my website.

All servers are still up and running. Everyone is able to access their vps servers at the moment. I would like to suggest to everyone to make a full backup of their data. All our nodes will be up until the end of the month to let the time for all customers to keep their important data and then move on.

I know that we have a lot of customer that was looking for a good and stable service in Montreal, QC, Canada, so I would like to suggest them to look at:

    http://www.colo-serv.net

I have been with them for several years and always had a good service.

For those in Chicago, Scranton and Kansas City, a quick look at WHT forum and you’ll find what you are looking for.

I would like to thank you all for your confidence in our service. A special thanks to Alexandre @ Colo-Serv.net that has always been there for me and help me out for any issues I got.

It’s been a pleasure to deal with all of you. Good luck to everyone…

    Kind Regards,

    Martin Latendresse
    Nix Communications
