OpenVirtuals have been featured on LowEndBox once before, and that was in early April. OpenVirtuals were founded in 2012 but are owned, and operated by, Intercom Online (a 20 year old voice and data solutions provider). As mentioned previously, these servers have ‘combo storage’. Your vps will have a two mounts, one SSD and one HD. The coupon code LEB20%YR can be used on more expensive plans. Looking back at their last thread: it’s great to see you no longer need a Facebook account to sign up, this requirement certainly put off quite a few people.

OpenVirtuals accept payments via Paypal. They have a 10 day money back guarantee. Servers will be provisioned instantly and all vps come with a 100% Uptime Guarantee supported by a ‘generous and proactive SLA’. We are told that they have pre-made templates for popular installations such as: 64 bit Linux OSes, development frameworks like Ruby on Rails and web applications like WordPress. You can find all of their legal documents on their ‘Terms’ page.

Thanks. It seems to be an one-time discount rather than recurring one?

        • The LEB20% for the mini yearly plan is one time. The LEB20%YR for all the other plans is recurring for 12 months.

So what is the actual price of this yearly plan (without one-time discount)? $24/Year or $30/Year? One-time discounts are very rare here and and not really appreciated unless explicitely stated in offer.

Networks seems IPv6 capable. http://bgp.he.net/AS13768 Is it IPv6 available for those offers?

So… you have to register just to see what options are available for a given plan?

  9. @Spirit: The mini is usually $30/yr and is discounted to $24/yr w/ the code. Think of it as 12 recurring discounts done at once. 8)

Currently we don’t offer IPv6. But in the future, we will.

I was checking their traffic, Level3 seems to handle the traffic from telia, also peer1 looks interconnected in London, with the LINX (linx-gw2.peer1.net), so the network looks solid, also in New York, New York, IPV6 would make this offer better, also maybe in the future provide a KVM in that location, I am sure many people will be looking for one

    • Florin thanks for the feedback. Once we see enough growth we may head along this very route.

    SSD vSwap !? o_O
There is no such thing, because vSwap are actually aren’t swapped out but artificially slowed down instead. Unless you are running out of ram on hardware node, but in that case thats and overselling and the whole node will be slowed down due to the OpenVZ/Linux kernel memory management.

    • NStorm:

PS: Nice offer anyways… but that “SSD vSwap” sounds lame.

      June 7, 2013 @ 6:01 pm | Reply
      • It’s true that vSwap doesn’t actually swap it just slows the system down to mimic swapping, It’s only if the system’s global memory is exhausted that real swap occurs. We manage the servers to have no swapping, and we mentioned it for that reason. But your post brings up two points – first of all we should be referring to it as swap rather than vswap if in relation to the disk, and secondly, it is a minor selling point which can be misinterpreted. So we’ll be updating the FAQ.

The customer support from this provider seems to be non-existent. I understand that it’s a self-managed plan, but you’re the ones that put restrictions on changing the rdns setting or enabling tun/tap. I shouldn’t have to wait 6 hours for something I could’ve done myself.

    July 25, 2013 @ 12:08 am | Reply
    • @kprf: We apologize for the long delay. We were in the process of expanding our tech support personnel, but unfortunately for the new guy all his tickets went to spam. We’ve resolved that now.

      re: tun/tap
This is a self-service item via the control panel and does not require a ticket. We have instructions in the faq for this.

Please contact me at “support .at. openvirtuals.com”. I’d like to make this right for you.

You really banging around ’cause they didn’t answer you in 6 hours for something IMPORTANT like tun/tap + PTR? You really never ever had BAD support.

Just signed up with these guys after finding them here on lowendbox. So far, I couldn’t be happier. The responsiveness of the support staff has been great. Even when I wrote “low-priority, don’t worry about it” all over my ticket, it was still resolved in a matter of hours. Two dollars a month? Is that really all I’m paying for this service? Incredible. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Oh yeah, I should also mention that connectivity is awesome. From my residential cablemodem in the NYC suburbs (so, relatively close physically to their hosting location):

      ping:
      rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 9.103/10.720/11.723/0.910 ms

rsync over ssh, 100MB file containing /dev/urandom data:
      104857600 100% 7.74MB/s 0:00:12 (xfer#1, to-check=0/1)

That number actually exceeds the stated download speed of my cable connection (50Mb/s), and it doesn’t even count protocol/encryption overhead…

      Pretty happy camper.
