Yes, I know what you’re thinking. This provider is older than most people are that are running some “providers” on LET. And that is worth a lot of very big heartfelt congratulations from all of us!

1997 was the year that I got introduced to the internet, actually. Dialing up each morning around 06:30 with my dad to track the Withbread Round the World Race progress. And Salvatore was busy doing hosting! It’s incredible. But what’s even more incredible is that they are still around today offering simply stellar service and servers at insanely low prices. I’m not just talking about their regular offering, but also about iwStack: the first real cloud within LowEnd price range!

I could now bother you with the details of the massive host nodes that Prometeus uses, but instead I’m going to give you this coupon for 18% off of any invoice (one invoice only)! The coupon is 18OneOff! It’s valid for all servers other than the ones above, so it’s also valid for iwStack credits.

I invite you, please, to share your congratulations in the comments for Salvatore and the rest of Prometeus for having been with us for 18 years!

Prometeus’ has revamped their OpenVZ offering, now only offering high-memory SSD-based OpenVZ boxes, with the VZSSD18 above being the smallest one available. You can order the 1.8GB OpenVZ server until the end of the month, so be quick to grab one!

Payments can be made using PayPal, credit cards through PayPal, and EU bank transfer. All servers are self-managed, meaning you are responsible to keep the server running and Prometeus is responsible for keeping the host node running. For all the details on what is allowed and what is not, among other things, please have a look at their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy!

Probably the VZSSD is OpenVZ and not XenPV/SolusVM.

Congratulations to Prometeus, still using 2 servers with them, best choice ever.

  13. If I buy more than one VPS (one ssd one hd) do I get free transfer between vps’s or does it come out of bandwidth?

    May 24, 2015 @ 11:54 am | Reply
    • Maounique:

Only IWStack has free internal transfer if you are using a private network. Also, only outgoing counted in any case, incoming free, internal network or not. All the rest (non IWStack) have metered bandwidth both ways.

Why are there only OS templates of oldstables available?

CentOS 7 is a fact almost a year. Debian 8 (Jessie) came out last month. I bet some customers don’t want to rely on LTS support (if available).

    May 25, 2015 @ 2:48 am | Reply
    • Maounique:

KVM has centos 7 and debian 8. XenPV has centos 7.
OVZ is unstable as it is, we will not add the new templates before they are not proven to be stable elsewhere.
Besides, with the old kernel, god knows what can happen. Any particular reason you need centos 7 or debian 8 environments in OVZ? We will listen to feedback and enable it experimentally here and there first.

How about more and more packages becoming systemd-only?

So, given your explanation, it’s better not not buy any OpenVZ VM from any provider at all because the lack of support by upstream distro’s? Or does it mean that all the ISP’s need to migrate their OpenVZ VM to XenPV / LXC in the very soon future?

  19. Prometeus, congratulations on your 18th birthday! Being on internet that long is like living a couple of lifetimes. :)

I have a question about your Terms of Use for VPS. I’d like to install and run ONLYOffice business/communications sweet from the TeamLab crew (onlyoffice.com). It has the Talk component installed for messaging within the system. Would this be against your TOS? (I specifically reviewed your “video chat” section but wasn’t sure if it applied.)

    Thanks for your help.

    • If you don’t plan to run a public open video chat service then it should be fine.

      • No, not planning a public video chat service.

  22. Placed an order but some kind of glitch happened when I hit the BACK key to correct an error. Had to start process all over again.

But it didn’t appear that any order went through … until I was checking my email for something unrelated and saw that there were two (2) orders. Now, not sure if I should pay before a team member at Prometeus looks at this. Appreciate your help.

Cannot predict this, it depends on turnover, but that is low at all times. Our customers are usually sticking with their products.

If you mean if we add more servers, no, not at this time.

I purchased a Xen package this morning, over 12 hours ago, and put in a support ticket to find out why the VPS has not been setup yet. I have heard nothing. I purchased this VPS based on the the ratings from LowEndBox as being one of the top providers. Getting a little concerned.
