As I mentioned above, ProvisionHost is back. They were established in 2010 but over the past few months they’ve done a “tremendous amount of restructuring”. ProvisionHost have been featured twice before, with their last offer being published in August 2011. The biggest change, from when we last featured them, seems to be that as well as Dallas, they now provide services in Toronto, Canada. It is worth noting that they haven’t totally disappeared from the LowEnd world in the last 18 months as they’ve been very active on LowEndTalk. Nodes are configured with the Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 or E3-1230 CPU and multiple WD Grade Enterprise Drives in a RAID setup.

Provision Host were established in 2010 but over the past few months they’ve done a “tremendous amount of restructuring”. According to Brandon, this includes resolving specific network issues and thinking of new products and services we in the LowEnd world may like. IRC and OpenVPN are allowed. They offer a 99.9% Uptime Guarantee and instantly ‘provision’ servers. For further information, you may want to have a look at their Terms of Service.

Network Information:

Dallas servers are located with LimeStoneNetworks (who once threatened LowEndBox with a DMCA) at the Databank datacenter and Toronto servers are located in the Peer1 datacenter.

Yep, I had to pay the taxes (im located in ontario), I dont mind.

I get 9ms pings to it from home, so thats why I ordered a toronto one.

thats a dd test, so umm, thats quite good.

Also surprised no native ipv6? I thought peer1 had that by now.. or maybe not.

    February 9, 2013 @ 4:28 am | Reply
    • texteditor:

Just as good advice going forward, if you plan on using bittorrent on any VPS where excessive i/o or network connection might cause an issue, try and limit the client to 2-3 open files at a time and no more than 10-20 simultaneous peers, should cut down on provider complaints

also if you need a client you can aggressively configure for this kind of stuff, rtorrent + rutorrent might be a better option.

      February 9, 2013 @ 6:43 am | Reply
      • I tried to install rtorrent and rutorrent but failed to install. Then I heard about Deluge and installed it and my VPS was suspended. :(

Peers means the downloading connections number ??

        February 9, 2013 @ 6:58 am | Reply
        • texteditor:

Well, download and upload connections + extra ones that are queued. There are some scripts out there that automatically can do rtorrent + rutorrent installs. Not that Deluge isn’t a viable alternative if configured properly, it’s just that Deluge is notorious for being geared more towards performance in small swarms (which is why it’s popular among autosnatchers.

Transmission is also pretty easy to set up, is configurable, and has a remote UI to help cut down on resource usage.

But, I have not received any responses to my ticket message in over 1 week – and that message was just a placeholder saying that they were having their manager look into it and that “our manager will respond shortly”. Things started out great, but this is very frustrating :(.

This is very frustrating, since the *only* reason I bought this VPS was to use it as a personal VPN! I’ve tried bumping the support ticket once or twice, posting here, and PMing Brandon on LET, but nothing seems to actually get this done.

I purchased this plan on 1 November 2013. Email communication was detected as SPAM in Google Apps (Mail). The VPS was automatically installed with CentOS 6.4 so in order to reload, as someone said before, you had to log into SolusVM. No option at purchase. Pings from Australia are in the order of 341ms whilst those from Las Vegas 91.5ms. At the time of writing, my VPS is unable to ping, or perform apt-get updates yet it appears to be serving HTTP pages thanks to the default Apache2 install. I have logged a support ticket. I/O test was as follows:

    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 53.924 s, 19.9 MB/s

The problem was resolved around 30 minutes ago. Support eventually replied stating they had some kind of internal issue without going into specifics. Supports is supposedly 24×7 although I don’t believe this is the case based on the time its taken to resolve this. I’d suggest its more likely 8AM-6PM or something similar. If its genuinely 24×7, then their communication would best be described as poor with respect to keeping a client in the loop.
