Pyramid Server - $6.60 256MB KVM/Xen VPS

PyramidServer Hamonangan from Carstensz Pyramid Server, a self confessed “slacker geek”, is opening up a VPS business selling both KVM and Xen HVM based virtual servers. He is giving LowEndBox readers 25% off discount using promo code LEB25Month. His “CK-256” package is now $6.60/month.

  • 256MB memory/512MB swap
  • 15GB storage
  • 150GB/month data transfer
  • KVM or Xen HVM/Virtualizor

Order link for KVM (servers in Asheville NC, test IP: 67.23.160.247) or Xen HVM (servers in Dallas TX, test IP: 72.9.149.15). They are also offering a limited special when you order KVM nodes. Put “LEBKVMBW” in the PayPal notes to get 100GB/month extra data transfer — first 5 KVM orders only.

Cartensz Pyramid Server runs from Indonesia (note: Cartensz Pyramid is the tallest mountain in Oceania in Indonesia). The website is a bit flaky — wasn’t working in Chrome when I tried first time a few days ago.

In business, the word pyramid has bad connotations, I don’t think I could use these guys purely on a psychological level. :)

Site works fine for me in chrome 11.x

Unfortunately that means I get that iridescent green turd logo in all it’s glory.

LEA, have you been deliberately seeking out the most hideous provider sites or am I paranoid?

  4. The business appears to be less than a week old.

Their website seems poorly thought out and unfinished. It’s wordpress but looks like they left in all the blogging bits. There are comment fields on their package pages. But no pricing? Also never knew that Asheville, Fremont and Seattle were states. Or even had their own laws governing commerce.

Following through on the ordering link, the pricing is in IDRs. Showing 80k IDRs for the KVM link. Kind of threw me seeing that. I’ll bet it stops a lot of folks from ordering.

WHMCS doesn’t have a link back to their site. I know it sounds silly but that’s one of the first things I look for. Many hosts always link to their ordering pages but there’s never any way to get back to their main site. This shows they at least put some thought into what they were doing instead of just looking like they threw up WHMCS and moved on.

Their ToS states that they will give out any information to any one with a written request and without notification to the client.

If you dispute a charge, they’re doing the $50-$150 “Administrative Fee” that we all know and love. I’m sure that’ll go over well here. (Amazed no one noted that the last time I pointed that out a few days ago.)

No IRC connections. (I;m indifferent to that. Just pointing it out as it;s important to some here.)

I stopped reading their ToS at that point.

    • Chrome 11 too :)

TOS page now gone, http://pyramidserver.info/ is an “It Works!” page, but linked to as a blog
Very obvious WordPress was used like others said, looks a category called “Packages” was created and the packages are just blog posts.

They do have an SLA for uptime as well as (although probably just copy/paste from DC) an SLA for hardware replacement. No word on support times.

About page is in Indonesian :(

Give it some time and I think the site will improve and things will all fall in place.

      • OK, I;m lost. Why are you looking at the *.info?

        February 27, 2011 @ 2:01 pm | Reply
        • Never mind. Just found the link. It’s at the bottom of the *.com site. I was thinking you were confusing the domains. Sorry about that.

      • Unfortunately, even I speak Indonesian, the About page does not seems to successfully elaborate their vision and mission clearly. Translating it using google will only make you confuse.

It is mentioned that they were newly incorporated in 2010 under a CV (Commanditaire Vennootschap) which is similar to PLC, they have been in business since 2007 under different website names.

    • Also would just like to note that I don’t think there should be any problem with $X fee for chargebacks or disputes, SO LONG AS they have NO basis. If service is not provided, or there is a lot of downtime, something valid calling for a dispute then by all means go ahead. But if you make a dispute for no reason, then why should the provider have to cover all the time and costs?

Rules are not bad, they can’t be too open but they can’t be too strict… all about finding that nice middle ground.

      • I dealt with a provider once that I leased a server from. Or tried to at least. After about two weeks of me trying to get them to install the correct network card into the box, I finally canceled the box and requested a refund. They said no and I filed for a chargeback/dispute with Paypal. Instead of returning my money, they immediately tried to charge my Paypal one of those admin fees. Luckily I don’t keep any excess money in my Paypal business accounts and my outgoing Paypal account is separate from my income one.

Now granted servers are different from VPSes. With a server, the host has to put out the cost of the equipment and very few companies prebuild that far ahead. I understand that very large amounts of money are involved here. With VPSes though, costs are spread across many users. In this case, and I realize that you;re only hearing one side of the argument, I had bent over backwards trying to deal with this provider but they didn;t come through. The host thought that they were right. Considering they got booted from WHT shortly after that, it didn’t surprise me.

It’s up to the host to charge or not for a chargeback. They’re not always going to see it from your side though. I won’t use such a company and from listening to people here, I don’t think many others will either.

        • I understood it! :)

Yeah in your situation I would have disputed it too. That would be in the whole “failure to provide service” category. The only time I feel the fee should be charged is when there wasn’t any issue at all. Something like you sign up for the VPS, get automated setup, you use the VPS for two weeks without any complaints, then randomly dispute the charges… thats BS.. and happens semi-regularly… :(

          Hey Mike,

If all of the PayPal accounts are business accounts, didn’t you have to hook them to a bank account anyway to verify them? If they are personal accounts, aren’t you hit with the monthly transfer limit?

Hi all, thanks for your comment here. i’m so sorry about the “Green logo”. because one and any reason i didn’t touch our homepage yet. we have a lot of work since we’re totally new on this business. please advice and critics. and for Mr (or Dr) Mike, that’s my partner fault putting unfinished ToS there. we just work around and the priority is still for networking stuff. virtualizor + KVM for now is a bad idea, and that is the point. but the problem been resolved now. maybe i should remove the ToS and AUP until we finish that. i’m please accept my apologies for the bad information, “green logo” everywhere, and unprofessional design. and sorry for the inconvenience.

    simple ToS :
    – no adult content, gambling, irc, spam.
    – no administrative fee.

    regards,

Considering it’s a legal document and you and your clients are bound to it, removing it may not be a good idea.
