    • Registration means little these days since getting aged domains is very easy.

    • We founded QuickPacket in 2003. We formed the LLC in South Carolina in October 2004, and converted it to North Carolina in February 2012. :)

This is what I got right out of the gate:

        testfile_100MB 100% 100MB 7.1MB/s 00:14

Wow, how do you get 7.1 MB/s while I am loading with ca. 500 kb/s?

I will try another download location later…

My bad. Didn’t realize what was being asked for. That was speed for pulling a file from the VPS at QuickPacket there to my own machine. Here’s the same approach you are using from Edis to the VPS:

          wget http://at.edis.at/100mb.bin

        • @Jeff, then some routes are bad, some routes are good :P

Someone with a /proc/cpuinfo? It really has vswap? Geekbench? IO stuff? etc. Maybe I am interested, seems an interesting location

  9. Do you support IPv6?

I see the FreeBSD icon on your web-site; do you support FreeBSD and OpenBSD on the San Jose Xen VPS packages?

How many CPUs do you give access to in the 256MB/20GB@6,99 and the 512MB/40GB@12,99 packages?

Do you have a test IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for San Jose?

Why do you have no info about anything at all on your web-site? The “more info” link links to the same page as “order now” – the shopping cart.

    Thanks!

If you order a Xen VPS, we can download a FreeBSD and/or OpenBSD ISO for you to use with Xen HVM. Please include this in the comments when ordering (because we provision Xen PV by default, which does not support FreeBSD/OpenBSD).

The information on our site is similar to that of other providers. We do plan to increase the amount of info on our site as we work to expand our offerings further over the coming months. Thanks for your interest.

      • When do you plan to have IPv6 support? Your offer looks great, but there are less than 4 months before 2012-06-06 (http://www.worldipv6launch.org/), so, IMHO, lack of IPv6 support is a pretty clear deal-breaker today.

P.S. Even the behemoth AT&T has signed up for the launch, so this year, IPv6 will be for real.

    Hy!
    I’ve been just shocked:
I’ve signed up with them today, I tought they might be a nice host so I can have a lowend vps as terminal-ssh server I can reach from anywhere.
All went well: I’ve payed them via paypal, the server was up and running in no-time.
I got all that they promised (OVZ128
    128 MB RAM
    256 MB vSwap
    1 CPU Cores
    20 GB Disk Space
    500 GB Bandwidth
    )
all was well… so I’ve started to adjust everything to my needs.
So I’ve started setting up a VPN (If I’m going to use this as an ssh server I would like to tighten things around). Of course tun-tap is not allowed by default on an openvz client so I asked the chat support over online chat..
Support said that vpn is all right. I asked if there are any limitatins (like MASQURADE and so on) and I got the anwser thats as long as I’m not attacked (DDos) and im not doing anything illegal its all right.
I was just curious about that what would happen if im attacked so I asked about a worst-case-scenario just so that I know what to be prepared for.
I was told that the service would be terminated in no time. I asked back if is there any way to have my stuff transfered away and that was the moment when the chat shut down.
I couldnt reach their main site.
I tried over a proxy (another vps of mine with a totally different host) and it was online. Ooops?
    Online chat just got away.
Finally over the proxy I sent them an email message:

    Hy,
    I’ve just seen that I
    – cannot log in over the client login
    – the website just didnt allow me to visit!
    – the VPS I just ordered previously this day is offline.
When I tried to log in over the solous vm I got the message no such user.
So please tell me what is going on. Am I banned or something?
Thanks for informing me. If you’ve banned me for something then please be kind enough to tell me why exactly and also please return my money because I havent been able to use your service for even a day!
Thanks very much also, have a nice day.

And I got my shocking anwser:
“Your service has been canceled and your money has been refunded.”
I asked for a reason and that was the anser:
“We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.”

Well I think that is not the way you should treat any customer..
so an advice if you even consider choosing them after something like this: do not dare to ask about ‘what would happen’.. or maybe it was the problem of why would i like to install vpn over a vps.. i dont know..

    • We elected to terminate your service because you made it clear that you thought you were going to be DDoS’ed due to what you were planning to use the VPS for. We do not want activities that lead to DDoS attacks on our VPS nodes.

      February 17, 2012 @ 12:07 pm | Reply
      • Hedzsredzs:

Thats an interesting interpretation of what I just said. I ASKED you what limitations youve got. You said that
        -1.I shouldnt do anything illegal
-2.IF im getting DDOS-ed you are going to turn me down. Then I got curious because i wanted to use this box as terminal server so I dont need to carry all my ssh keys with me.. so I asked you about a worst-case-scenario (yea this was written down just like this) what WOULD happen IF.
Well I dont exactly see how does that got you to :”ou made it clear that you thought you were going to be DDoS’ed due to what you were planning to use the VPS for”.
I asked you about your limitations for an openvz server because I wanted to set up openvpn remember? The only reason i asked your support was because I asked you to please enable tun/tap..

Its real nice that you just answer me on a public forum now :) at least I know why did you terminate me without telling me a reason insted of the previous “because we can do it”..

Well, the VPS is mostly up, however there are random total reboots of the entire server while not during any scheduled time. Uptime right now for us is < 24 hours. The reboots happen whenever, but typically afternoon to evening Eastern Time.

Our Quickpacket VPS is offline again. It won’t boot from the control panel either.

At around 40 minutes to an hour of solid downtime at this point.

Yep, opened a ticket and noted your reboot of the entire server.

Unsure what is going on with this server, but not very encouraging pattern since this special ran.

Who knows what is running on other VPSes on same server. Clearly, my server mates have issues.

It’s like when the neighborhood you live transitions into a shady and questionable place to be. What do sane folks do? They move.

        • If you are who I think you are, you were relocated to the new node (ovz2) last night. We are looking into the logs to see what happened that required the reboot. Server loads are significantly lower on both OpenVZ nodes now.

Jeff, you just did good by me :)

Hoping you can scale with new users and deal with the problems that typically ensue.

The network you are on is great. Everything was super duper until the special ran.

We’ll be hanging on for another month to see how things shape up :)

Good quick support from these guys so far. All my tickets get answered in about 2-5 minutes. More than I was expecting for $15/yr.

Nothing critical or bad has happened so far. Uptime looks good on my VPS. There’s no Backup functionality in the WebUI yet, but a quick ticket to support and they’ll have it done for you.

I did notice some I/O issues with a script that copied a few hundred files somewhere at the top of the hour. Sometimes it would halt for a few seconds, then resume copying at low speeds. I suspect other people may also be running scripts at the top of the hour – delaying the script 5-10 mins delivers great I/O speeds.

    Overall I’m happy. I wasn’t expecting much for $15/yr – it’s definitely delivering more than I expected.

I would like to give a brief overview of this seller for reference to everyone that is looking to purchase services from quick packet.

I had a few VPS services with these guys and everything was going great. When I say great I mean the servers were rock solid, the support was near instant response. This company was really looking to be a rock solid place to have hosting until I inquired about refunds for two VPS services I had with them. The first VPS I inquired about was handled no problem, I asked for a refund in the form of account credit (because I knew I wasn’t leaving this company, everything was great thusfar). The matter was handled and the account credit was applied to my account. When I inquired about the second VPS service being refunded and applied as account credit I was told it was against their terms of service. Me and the support rep went back and forth which I found to be very unprofessional and out of character for the support, I had never had any troubles with these guys. I felt like they just issued me a refund for one service, why can’t they do it for this one they were indentical. I mean if it was against their terms they shouldn’t of refunded me account credit for the first one to begin with, I would have been perfectly okay with that but since they did I wanted a refund for this one too. Well anyway I ended up asking about their business, asked for relevant information such as contact address and things of that nature. I get a response forwarding me to an ATTORNEY! Then quick packet tells me they will not communicate any further with me because I am threating to sue them!

Now I went out of town last night and come back today to notice ALL my data, ALL my services have been terminated with quick packet. Soon as I asked for their business information I got kicked off the wagon, lost all my data and everything without even being notified. Then these guys have the nerve to “partially” refund me for services. Needless to say I have paypal disputes pending now with these guys.

Now all and all quick packet is a GREAT I mean GREAT company to work with. I loved their servers and their support. Just do not ever ask them for their business information, I think they might still be under the table and that’s a touchy topic with them (they delete all your stuff and remove you from ever existing). Luckily I paid with paypal or I would be SOL.

    • Our terms of service clearly state that all payments are non-refundable. We occasionally make exceptions depending on the situation, but this customer was trying to take advantage.

We attempted to work with this customer but he was highly abusive to our staff.

An example of his language was “If this can’t be solved you can cancel all my services and shove that $ up your ass.” (dollar amount removed from the quote)

The customer continued to escalate his abusiveness and threatened to sue us.

We decided that working with this customer was no longer worth our time and we granted him a pro-rated refund (which is something that we typically do not do) on all of his services so he would go away. We gave the customer time to remove his data, despite his false statement above to the contrary.

We can’t please everyone, but I feel like we went above and beyond to try to please this customer, despite his abusive behavior.

      • Rob:

You did not give me time to remove my data. I have no written email at ALL about this. You are support staff and I am an aggravated customer. I can assure you anyone on this forum that has been polluted with vulgar language would be tempted to say the same thing in my situation.

As to the suing you, you are a liar sir. You told ME that you would sue me if I posted bad reviews on websites about your company. I simply told you if you threaten or harass me the exactly same thing could happen to you. Now get your facts straight. Then gave me the address to some bogus lawyer and told me that you couldn’t continue contact with me!

Also I really wish you would quit your lieing, you did NOT give me any time to get my data or even as much as send me an email before you deleted my support/billing account. Now I tried after all this to brush it off and give you a somewhat decent review but your actions dictate the demeanor of this company. This public forum is not the place to communicate with me and your childish acts of insult. If you want to me respond to my 3 paypal disputes or my numerous emails I have sent you. Oh by the way this guy refunds me for the vps services MINUS the cpanel fee. Why would I need a cpanel if I didn’t have a vps with them? Also again, please provide some solid business information for this so called “company”.

        • Kramy:

Ending it with a positive gives more weight to your grievances. It’s a clever tactic used by skilled manipulators to win people onto their side in arguments. Since I recognize it, it makes me doubt you more than “Jeff”.

My experience – When I asked about a refund, they informed me it wasn’t possible, but I could cancel at any time. They also asked if I wanted a disk image that could be restored to another OpenVZ server.

I instead opted to stay with them (I did prepay a whole year…), and hounded my ISP to fix their routers/transit. They did, so now I get 3-4mbit to/from my VPS rather than 0.5mbit, making my VPS quite useful to me.

      • Rob:

I was in no way trying to manipulate a response to make anyone take “my side”. I am simply reporting a review on what services I received from this provider. They DID refund me for one of my servers and when asked to do for another they denied. Then terminated my account and deleted my account without any notice when I asked about business credentials. Now if you call that a good seller, then so be it.. I am just trying to inform buyers of the practices this seller. Their servers are top notch if you can avoid asking them for business credentials.

I purchased service from QuickPacket last LEB deal. The service dropped constantly and my files were deleted. I gave up on the service and canceled the day of my renewal. Well, too late, they already charged my PayPal. So I requested a refund via email the day of but they refused. I then initiated a dispute with PayPal which closed not in my favor. In retaliation for opening the dispute, QuickPacket suspended my account and is now asking me to pay $35 to reactivate it. QuickPacket falsely claimed I initiated a chargeback (PayPal disputes are not chargebacks).

    QuickPacket’s ToS says:

    19. If any payments are returned as a result of a dispute, insufficient funds or otherwise charged back, QuickPacket will impose a $35 returned payment fee.

I never received a refund, so they have no right to charge me a fee. I emailed them saying as much, and QuickPacket told me they had nothing further to say and that my VPS would be deleted.

This is one of the worst companies I’ve ever dealt with, and certainly the worst VPS company. They offer unreliable service, have lied to me many times, and have broken their own terms of service. I recommend everyone avoid QuickPacket completely. There are plenty of other hosters out there that don’t engage in such shady business practices.

    • This customer contacted us AFTER they sent us a payment by PayPal. We do not have the ability to charge anyone’s PayPal account.

The customer stated that they were having issues with their service and requested a refund. We had not heard from them the entire previous year about any issues with their VPS.

We offered to assist them in resolving any issues that they had with the service, but advised them that all fees paid are non-refundable. We confirmed that the customer’s VPS appeared to be operating normally (was responding to ping and was accessible by SSH).

The customer stated that they originally paid a third party technician to setup the VPS for them, and that they did not have the funds to pay the technician to correct the problem with their setup. Additionally, they stated they let the domain name expire.

Before we could respond, the customer initiated a dispute with PayPal. Per our Terms of Service, when the customer initiated a dispute with PayPal, a $35 returned payment fee is imposed. The customer failed to quote the entire section of our Terms of Service:

      19. If any payments are returned as a result of a dispute, insufficient funds or otherwise charged back, QuickPacket will impose a $35 returned payment fee. Service may be interrupted or terminated as a result of a returned payment. If service is interrupted, service will not be restored until the returned payment is repaid in addition to the $35 returned payment fee. If service is terminated, the customer is not entitled to a refund and is prohibited from any further use of QuickPacket services until the $35 returned payment fee is paid.

As stated in the TOS, until the $35 returned payment fee is paid, we will not consider restoring service. We gave the customer a deadline of today to submit the returned payment fee, and we’re still willing to consider reinstating service if the fee is paid.

So you’ll respond in public when I quote the ToS, but you won’t respond to my emails which say the exact same thing.

I acknowledge I contacted the company too late, and as a result I did not receive any refund. They could have extended a favor to me since I contacted them the day the PayPal subscription sent payment, but they refused, and it is their right to do so. But that doesn’t mean they should lie to me or break their terms of service to retaliate against me for even asking for a refund.

You can quote the entire section if you like, but I still have never received any returned payments as a result of a dispute, insufficient funds or otherwise charge back. My reading of the ToS is that it says, “If any payments are returned as a result of a dispute, insufficient funds or otherwise charged back, QuickPacket will impose a $35 returned payment fee.” And had I actually received any refund, they would be correct and entitled to assess a $35 fee. But the fact remains that I have never received any return payments as the result of anything.

The company is clearly in the wrong here. I am posting here to show what their customer service is worth, and you can watch as their reps make public fools of themselves misreading their own terms of service. Beware doing business with them or you will receive the same headaches as I have.

      February 28, 2013 @ 11:01 am | Reply
      • We did not lie. You initiated the PayPal dispute. As soon as you did that, the payment was returned and you incurred the $35 returned payment fee. Losing the PayPal dispute does not erase this fee.

Money was never returned. The rep is continuing to lie. If it had been returned, I’d have my money back. But I don’t have my money back. QuickPacket is clearly in the wrong here. Buying a VPS off LEB is always a gamble, but if I’d known what horrible people are running the company I’d have gambled elsewhere. If you want any uptime, or customer service not run by children, then I recommend you look elsewhere. They still refuse to respond to my emails.

You are misunderstanding what returned payment means. It is a commonly used term by most merchants.

I had to get a refund from these guys. It wasn’t any trouble – it was processed in hours. That said, it did leave a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. That’s because when I first signed up, their payment buttons were actually subscription buttons in disguise. (!)

When I received notice that my hosting was expiring, I immediately paid it. And then week later, Paypal notified me that it was paid once again. (Subscription)

I avoid subscriptions if at all possible – I pay pretty much everything manually. It’s just what I do. I wouldn’t have screwed up on that. :/ I don’t like things that auto-debit. I thought it was very sneaky to do that – and subscriptions are quite buried and hard to find in Paypal’s interface.

That said, they had no trouble refunding me the amount… minus the transaction fees. ($0.36 CAD? About $0.29 USD?)

IMO initiating a chargeback or starting a dispute before contacting the company a couple times is a bit like spitting in their faces. After that, don’t expect to have very amicable communications. Such disputes are big headaches, which most companies would like to avoid. That said, sometimes you’ll encounter an employee that flatout does the wrong thing when it comes to customer service, so you’ll have to remain cool and try again – usually you’ll get someone more reasonable that will help on the second attempt.

Sorry to hear that everything went so shit for you, David.
