LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

QuickPacket - $49/Month Dual Xeon L5420 16GB RAM 1TB Hard Drive in Atlanta

quickpacketJeff, from QuickPacket, recently contacted us to get this dedicated server offer featured. QuickPacket have been featured on LowEndBox a few times before and are active on LowEndTalk.

Intel Dual Xeon L5420

  • Dual Xeon L5420
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB Hard Drive
  • 10TB Bandwidth
  • 100Mbps Port
  • 5 IPv4 Addresses on Private VLAN
  • Dedicated KVM over IP / IPMI (uses 1 IP address)
  • Coupon: LEBXEON
  • $49/Month | Order

QuickPacket was founded in 2003 and offers dedicated servers, co-location, virtual private servers, Idera/R1Soft data backup and shared/reseller virtual hosting from Atlanta, GA and Las Vegas, NV. We have featured them as a vps provider several times before. Servers are billed pro-rata and can be customised whilst ordering. For example, you can upgrade to 20 TB / 1 Gbps port for $10 more. Reviews on their last LEB post are mixed. I found this review from February on LET.

QuickPacket accept payments by VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Google Checkout, and PayPal. Servers are typically setup within one business day. The servers are already racked and ready, but depending on order volume it may take longer. They do not allow Spam/Bulk Mail, Warez, IRC, and TOR. For more information, their Terms of Service / Acceptable Use Policy is located here.

Network Information:

QuickPacket operates their own network on AS46261. Their network providers include nLayer, Inteliquent (Tinet), and Cogent. Servers will be located at the 55 Marietta datacenter in Atlanta, GA.

  1. so cheap ! any raid for it ? how much if we add a more disk for raid ?

    • The prices for additional drives are listed on the order form. We can do software RAID in Linux, or the system does include LSI SAS1064E integrated RAID that we can setup for you if you prefer. Thanks for your interest!

  2. why not total is $58.05 USD?

    March 27, 2013 @ 3:20 pm | Reply
    • ” Servers are billed pro-rata” The $9 is from the remaining time of march + april.

      March 27, 2013 @ 3:36 pm | Reply
    • The servers are pro-rated to the first day of the month, so what you are paying for today is the remainder of March plus the full month of April.

He likely meant that your offer might be a fraud (too cheap) because we had similar offers here already which then disappeared quickly after they gained enough money from their customers no offence though it’s just a guess of what he meant!

I have had a couple of VPS through QPS the last couple of years, and currently have a dedicated with QPS at very similar specs to this offer. I am happy with the performance of the machine and the speed of the network — also have had friendly/honest communication with support for any questions or concerns I have had, which have been minimal. Overall, I recommend QPS if your in need of a dedicated server.

    I can/will vouch for QuickPacket.

Been a customer in the past.

They are legitimate. Very on top of things. Always helpful and professional.

Good offer. Better set a sales limit or droves of buyer are going to push this into backorder and issues though.

  10. I have being using QPS for close/just over a month now,

I have to say I don’t know the names of people there as it seems to be ‘Technical Support’ as the user on WHMCS and QPS on Skype, but overall the network they run is nice.

They are the only provider I am aware of that is offering a 1Gbit port with 10TB of bandwidth for $40 on a different deal.

    Can you install VMware ESXi 5.1 in hardware RAID-1 (provided I order a 2nd 1TB disk)? IPv6 available ?

    March 27, 2013 @ 8:42 pm | Reply
    • We do not guarantee compatibility with VMWare, but I believe it will work. The system includes LSI SAS1064E RAID, which may work with VMWare, but we have not tested it. You can install it with the included dedicated KVM over IP if you would like.

We do not have IPv6 available yet, but it is coming soon. Our network is ready, but we have some testing left to complete. Thanks for your interest.

The LSI Raid they mentioned is within the compatibility list.
      http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/vcl/result.php?search=LSI+1064E+Pci-Express+card+configured+in+Raid1&searchCategory=IO+Devices

But you might need to google if there are potential Network driver issues with version 5.1.

      March 27, 2013 @ 10:47 pm | Reply
    • We tested this config (RAID 1 through the SAS1064E with VMWare) and I/O performance is not good, so we do not recommend it.

Software RAID works great, if you can use a Linux-based OS that supports it.

Speaking form the VPS side of the house I can say I have been a happy customer over a little over a year at this point. On extremely rare occasions when there has been a hiccup (For instance they handled a DDOS 2 days ago quite efficiently, performance was only sporadic for an hour or two then back to more of the same stable service). One of my VPS servers was the unfortunate victim of a DDOS attack directly a few months ago and were quick to null route everything at my request.

All in all an excellent reasonably priced host. I wish I could justify a dedicated box with them, but unfortunately it just isn’t in the budget right now :-)

FYI, these are 16GB servers. 32bit OSes are limited to 4GB, so you will lose out on 12GB of memory. Most 32bit apps, drivers, and libraries will work on 64bit. I once had a java app that only ran stable in 32bit, so I used a 32bit Java on a 64bit machine. Quickpacket is knowledgeable, open a sales ticket with them and see what they suggest.

On a side note, has anyone tested Hyper-V on one of these Dell CS24-SC servers? I’m considering splitting my server into several VMs with separate IPs for redundancy.

  63. Mike Solstice:

After almost a month, I have to say this is the best server I’ve ever had. Moved over from DataShack, where I had many issues; rude support and there were numerous errors running Xen Cloud Platform on their servers, which they blamed on “bugs” in XCP. After getting XCP setup on the new server through QuickPacket…all those “bugs” mysteriously disappeared running the same version of XCP. The server runs like a dream; it’s stable, responsive and lightening fast. One thing to be aware of is that you need to order as many IPs as you’re ever going to need if you want them on the same subnet at $1/ea; otherwise you have to order a new subnet, which uses 3 IPs so for a block of 8 at $8 you only end up with 5 usable IPs. At the overall low price of the server, I can’t really complain there although it could have been made more clear on signup (I didn’t get a big block because it says prior authorization is required or something to that effect); upon contacting QuickPacket to order more however, they went above and beyond in explaining the “why” of what I saw as a price increase/penalty for not ordering IPs on signup and all was good. Excellent response time from support. The server was up and running in under 24 hours (compared to 3 days from Datashack) and I have had zero issues getting it setup despite not being very familiar with XCP. Couldn’t ask for better and I don’t see myself moving anytime soon. Combine that with the fact that I was able to shave a couple dollars off my WHMCS license and yup, very happy camper. Thanks guys, you’re great!!!

    Hi

When you will be instock again, intrested to buy a dedi, also how much ip cost if we want to buy /29 ?

    thanks

    May 25, 2013 @ 7:36 pm | Reply
    • Jack:

Dedicated services come with 5 Usable IPs however I think an additional 5 IPs are $4 or an upgrade to 13 Usable IPs (/28) is $8

Stock wise you’ll have to wait for an official update from QPS.

      May 25, 2013 @ 9:48 pm | Reply
    • Hi Scrambleground. We will have some additional servers this coming week. The server comes with a /29 (5 usable IP addresses, one of the IP addresses is used by the KVM over IP/IPMI). An additional /29 is $8 per month.

Occassionally (used to be once every two weeks, now it’s more like once a month) a DDoS attack or switch failure pulls my server offline, but overall the server is reliable, the network quality is great (I have the 20 TB on 1gbps port upgrade), and generally you get responses to tickets within a few hours.
