SemoWeb have been featured on LowEndBox quite a few times before. They were registered back in 2009. This offer brings forth auto backups, super large bandwidth with 100 Mbps Uplink and the node itself runs on a 1Gbps port. They’re still operating out of the QuadraNet datacenter in Los Angeles which is renowned for it’s Asian connectivity. On their last offer, it had mixed reviews. It would be great if any current clients could leave a review with us in the comments!

SemoWeb accepts all major credits cards through 2checkout and PayPal so you can pay via that, and as for return policy, their VPS products are not eligible for any trials or refunds. Dustin has informed us via the ticket that each container is alloted 4x Cores shared, their nodes in LA are E3-1230v2 with 4x Physical Cores & 4x Logical Cores – TOTAL 8x Cores, Clock Speed 3.3 GHz + Max Turbo Frequency 3.7 GHz. They have DUAL E5620 in line as well which mean 8x Physical Cores + 8x Logical Cores due to ‘HyperThreading’ TOTAL 16x Cores. Be sure to read up their Terms and Privacy Policy before purchasing.

What does this mean?: “It is absolutely forbidden to host an IRC server that is part of or connected to another IRC network or server.”

Is it saying one cannot host an IRC server?

    • Hello,

IRC Server is not allowed on our network as a whole, we do apologize for any inconveniences caused.

      April 9, 2013 @ 1:41 am | Reply
      • Does it include connecting to a IRC server as a client too?

This is almost too good an offer compared to the competition. Also, I am a bit worried about the service after reading some previous reviews. Maybe others can chime in…

Great question! This offer is based off of OpenVZ virtualization, so Windows is not possible.
      Apologies for any inconveniences caused.

  7. I didn’t find anything in the TOS specifically against running a torrent server. Are these allowed?

I to understand that if I create a php page allowing someone to upload images or files, this is regarded as a violation of terms?

    April 9, 2013 @ 5:20 am | Reply
  8. I have one more doubt. Looking at your past history on LEB, you’d been providing boxes with very modest specs, around 256-512 MB RAM. can you assure us that these boxes will not be oversold and that we will get the resources advertised?

    April 9, 2013 @ 5:24 am | Reply
    • Great question, and I can respect it.
We never have we failed to meet this either. Our allocations are fully usable as long as the virtual servers are not abusive / causing issues with others then there is nothing to worry about.

      April 9, 2013 @ 5:28 am | Reply
  9. Torrent servers are unfortunately not allowed.

In regards to a “php page” allowing others to upload images or files is not necessarily forbidden, now if its causing abuse etc then yes, otherwise no big deal.

  25. DMN:

Bought their VPS with 2GB RAM and 2560 MB vSwap a couple of days back using the link from this article.
After logging in, I was surprised to notice 512 MB vSwap instead of the claimed 2560MB. Anyway, all I had to do was start a ticket to get the vSwap memory bumped up to the advertised value from the initial 512MB. The Support team was prompt in making the required changes and responding to the ticket.

    So far, so good..
I am going to test this VPS for a quarter, with varying degrees of load (Currently using it for backup and running an instance of GitLab with a minimal LEMP stack). If the server continues to perform well, I’ll definitely consider moving important stuff over and even purchasing another VPS (Exact specs) for hosting a bunch of websites in the future.

Am i reading this right, your in a dc that sells asia premium yet performance to asia is seriously lacking…. someone screwed up some routes or just blended low for traffic to asia?

either way, purchased and see how we go. thats what a cdn is for :-)

    April 10, 2013 @ 1:52 pm | Reply
    • Hello,

Incorrect, QuadraNet offers 2x types of mixes.. one being the regular premium mix and the other being Asian Optimized.. if you notice any hiccups or really require Asian Optimized we can pretty much allocate a whole /29 to you that is optimized.. you will indeed pay a higher price.. but that is only if you want Asian Optimized network and your target market is Asian..

Otherwise, you would not want to be on that network.. a little bit about the Asia Optimized Bandwidth:

Asian Optimized IP addresses allows us to make broad BGP advertisement changes
to those blocks to affect incoming and outgoing paths to correct any routing
irregularities, congestion and other negative effects that Chinese (and some
      other country’s) ISP’s frequently have.
We segregated and assigned unique blocks of IP address space, so that we can
make these changes and only effect those blocks without having to force our
entire customer base to go through the route changes (which for them may then
      offer less than optimal routing).
Sometimes we have to completely turn down entire transit uplinks via BGP to the
Asian Optimized IP blocks in order to correct incoming path congestion or
routing issues that the Chinese ISP’s are having at any specific time.
With our standard network, we will not do these changes as it will mean our
entire customer base will then lose access to that turned down transit uplinks
route paths. So if the client wants us to be able to provide assistance with the
frequently sub-optimal routing issues that Chinese ISP’s have, they must be
using our AO IP blocks, otherwise they need to stick it out and wait for the
Chinese ISP’s to resolve their issues on their own.

      Hope that clears the confusion.

It seems like everyone’s VM is only setup with 512 vSwap…probably because they know the majority of people probably won’t open a ticket requesting the promised vSwap. If the plan advertises 2560MB vSwap there is no excuse for it not to be setup with 2560MB vSwap.

        • Customers may open a ticket and we’ll help fix it.. It’s not a matter of assuming/knowing ‘most’ customers will not open a ticket about it.. as that would be unethical. We advertise/provide a service and have no intentions of ‘ripping off’ our customers.

We’re still trying to determine why containers are being created with the lower amount of vSwap..

    CPU frequency : 2400.119 MHz
Total amount of ram : 2048 MB
Total amount of swap : 512 MB

As mentioned, i should get 3.2 GHz and 2560 vSwap.
I badly need those two things.

looks like VPS was created on wrong node.

Anyways, the issue is. how much net speed should i accept from server?
      i am getting 60KBps – 200 Kbps at times.

It’s hard to say, as each of our nodes push different amounts of traffic as you know, so running the test on the VM will not be so accurate, should you be concerned or face any network hiccups just open a ticket. We’re here 24×7

I signed up yesterday for this service, it was provisioned within minutes. It is currently on a 2.4MHz box with the smaller vswap, but it looks like a simple ticket will fix this. So far it’s been rather responsive. I’ve reimaged once (changed distro) and this was near instant. I did have to reset my root password afterwards, but no biggie.

With this much ram and 4 shared cores this should meet my immediate needs, with another box in the near future. Thanks for such a great offer!

Ordered on 09/04/2013 and was setup within 10-15 minutes of ordering and was very happy with the quick setup and the price paid was very good indeed BUT…. I have seen and have experience in the 4 days of having the VPS nothing but network problems and SemoWeb REFUSE to admit there is a problem and simply say there is nothing wrong on our end. I only run a Teamspeak and Killing floor server and they both become inaccessible to both USA and Europe users for 1-3 minutes downtime and then everything is fine until there next problem. The other problem has been packetloss, it’s not a big amount but it does exist but I really don’t care about the packetloss but I do care about the up-time and all I get told is to provide more information, check there control panel logs and when checking the logs, all I can see is no logs.

I do hope SemoWeb will sort out there stuff otherwise I’m taking my custom elsewhere.

OK they have put me on a new node which seems to have solved the problem but sadly the connection to the box is shockingly bad. All my users still get packetloss on teamspeak and it can range from 0.10~2.56 which ain’t to bad but that is just with 4 people. Will see what it is like with more before I decide.

Horrible network uptime. When the vps was set up it didn’t have network configured at all, had to contact support to get that done. Then constant network drops 2-3 times a day. Not just packetloss, all of the existing connections actually drop. Had some even worse yesterday, one 35 min downtime, a couple 5-15 minute ones in addition to that. Support just says that it’s all solved after each report.

There was an instance where the node seemingly ran out of memory and the software in the in the vps was failing on memory allocations. Not 100% sure and the support denies it, but that’s what it looked like to me.

All of this in four days.

In other words don’t waste your money on this.

Yea I’m sorry Dustin, I feel the same as Surge, I want my money back to be honest, the VPS was awesome don’t get me wrong but having problems on the first few days of purchase makes me feel I made a bad choice. All the users who connected to the team speak hosted on the box lagged due to packet loss and I can understand abusers causing problems I really do but the packet loss exists all day long whether I was on the first VPS or the second one you setup for me. Your service would be perfect for webhosting because no one would notice much problem but when you are trying to run teamspeak and maybe a game on the box, you will notice things.

I might in the future use your service if I decide to setup another VPS for webhosting but today I just want my money back and for you to shut off the VPS.

Thank you again for your time.

        • Hmmm… Seems like the “curse of the LEB” to me. Whenever a good sale is in progress there is always (an) abuser(s) jump in to take advantage of the new VPS.

      • vRozenSch00n,

Has nothing to do with LEB directly, it’s with any sale… anytime you make sales on servers/nodes you will get abusers.. that’s just guaranteed.. as the days go by we as the providers seem to find them and take them out.. once they’re gone services start leveling out as they should and everyone gets to enjoy the pie :)

        April 13, 2013 @ 3:11 pm | Reply
  41. Andy:

Yea I happen to agree with Dustin but keeping the customer happy at the end of the day is every providers nightmare but to be honest the few days for any new client is important as for them few days the client will experience your service and if all they see are problems they will look to the provider to fix them problems if they can at least manage to fix the issues. And when the client knows even after all the hard work of the provider has failed then all the client will want to do is have a quick exit from the provider. In my experience with SemoWeb, they would for me be the perfect web hosting provider as the VPS are great. If in the future I do need another VPS for web hosting purpose and offering websites to US clients then yes I might come back to SemoWeb.

On a final note, I have been issued a full refund which makes SemoWeb a very respectable company in my eyes. So don’t be put off from getting service from them just because some of us have had bad experiences, your experience might be much better.

Thank you SemoWeb for trying your hardest, I will not forget.

I signed up with a different LEB provider and the account was set up before I could even check my email to get the account information.

I requested a refund, but got the same canned response: “Thanks for writing in to us today, I will have our supervisor to assist you further with your request, there may be a delay in getting back to you as it goes into their queue.”

          Ticket # is 150337

        • For the record, the VPS on SemoWeb still has not been set up. I would rather not go through the hassle of contacting my debit card account manager about this…

        • Dan:

I’m very glad I’ve finally got my vps online
(but) it is located in kansas
and my route with it is awful

although the latency is low, time to time there are several packet losses
[but] it is [not] quadranet’s fault!

I wish I could have some other location to connect

I should have a resolution for you by tomorrow, we’re awaiting another allocation for that specific node.

  50. I have to say that despite some great reviews here, I’m a little disappointed with my service with SemoWeb so far. I purchased the LEB Special last night and now, almost 24 hours later, my order is still pending. I sent in a support ticket to find out how long it would take to get my account online and recieved a response almost immediately telling me my request was being elevated to a supervisor without actually addressing my question. So kudos on the 24/7 tech support and the speedy reply, but it would have been nice if the representative had at least attempted to address my issue. I’m not dead in the water yet, but I am very displeased, and we’ll see what the next few hours brings. Disappointed.

    • Mike,

Our sincerest apologies, we’re actually short on inventory and have new node(s) coming online to cope with the sales, your patience is appreciated.

Feel free to e-mail me directly as well at dustin@semoweb.com

      • Thanks for responding, Dustin. It’s nice to have someone actually address my issue rather than send a canned template response. I am still rather annoyed with the fact that there was no attempt made to explain that there might be a delay when I ordered, or a twitter update on your feed that said you were waiting on new hardware, but thanks all the same.

        • Hi Mike,

I’ll work with the team to make sure this does not happen again, just so you know we have released the new gear and are deploying and responding to every ticket.

          Thanks again.

      • Hi Will,
Please open a ticket in regards to the ‘timing out’.. this is a newly deployed node, this should not be happening what so ever.. nor on existing occupied nodes..

    Hi Dastin,

May you explain about this statement? “NO Price Increases — Lock yourself in!”

    Thanks

    April 18, 2013 @ 6:45 am | Reply
    • Hi Donald,

Certainly, this simply means that no price increases will ever occur, you pretty much ‘lock’ in the savings! Of course if you decide to cancel and the promotion is expired you can no longer obtain the pricing again.

This is also a month-to-month service, meaning you can cancel at anytime should you wish.

Buyer beware – they’re providing less than advertised. I got 4×2.4GHz instead of 4×3.2GHz, and 512MB instead of 2560MB VSWAP. Opened a support ticket; they increased the VSWAP in a couple hours, but have not fixed the CPU (yet).

    • Hello,

We can create you a new VPS if you’d like with faster cores, though I would like to say the machine you’re on is a DUAL E5620 Quad Core (as we only have 2x different proc’s offered) — so a DUAL Quad Core with 8x Physical Cores + 8x Logical Cores TOTAL 16x Cores, I’d say you’re on a strong machine which is perfect for virtualization.. none the less, e-mail me dustin@semoweb.com and I’ll gladly move you.
