LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

ServerCrate - $3.95/mo 512MB OpenVZ in Dallas, Texas

Robert, from ServerCrate, recently sent in this offer. ServerCrate were formerly known as RobertHost and were featured once on LowEndBox.

As mentioned above, ServerCrate previously operated as RobertHost and appeared on LowEndBox last month with a 256MB offer which seems to still be available. They’ve recently upgraded all of their servers with LSI HW RAID cards, and now run RAID 10 SSDs on all nodes. Robert informs us that his previous offer was well received and admits they’ve had a few problems over the past month but they’ve now been fixed. According to their last offer, Robert appears to be a teenager – a highly competent and articulate one at that. If you purchased one from their last offer, do leave a quick review below!

ServerCrate accept Paypal and offer refunds at their own discretion. They’re using Supermicro servers with the Intel E3-1230v2 CPU along with multiple Samsung 840 SSD drives in a RAID 10 configuration. Torrents, Tor exits or anything which is illegal (in USA) is not allowed. VPN’s, on the other hand, are allowed. As usual, have a read of their Terms of Service before you sign up.

  2. I’ve been using ServerCrate for about a month now and they have so far been great, aside from a few network hiccups but those have been for the most part corrected. Whenever there is a problem with the network or something similar, the problem is usually fixed within the hour.

The hardware that they are hosted on is fantastic. I/O is around 500MB/s (thanks for hardware RAID configurations). The network is nearly a shared 1Gbps but, is usually pretty close to 1Gbps unlike most providers where it is 1/4 that. The prices are even amazing especially for what is given. They even got self setting rDNS features!
Here is a benchmark verifying this information : http://pastebin.com/zCx9zUGN

So far, they are still a newly arose company, but I think they deserve more publicity for what they are providing.

Anyway, just thought I would leave a review for those questioning.

    • Thanks Cyberpew, I appreciate the feedback on the network. That’s something we’re looking to improve on in the future, so you burst right up to 1gbps with no issues, but we’re fairly pleased with how it’s working out currently.

  3. I had a poor experience with Roberthost (AKA ServerCrate) a few months back.
Support was not responsive and network was unstable. Buyer beware.

    • We saw you had a few issues with us a while back, and happily gave you a full cancellation and refund, if I remember correctly. As stated in the post, we’ve made extensive hardware and network upgrades to ensure reliability, and have brought on another support staff member to handle tickets.

Should probably add as required disclosure, if you buy from ServerCrate you’re buying from a kid / minor.

    • I’m not sure why this is an issue, the legal bindings are not through me, I simply operate the business.

  5. I currently have four VPS’s and a Web hosting plan with this guy. I personally have dealt with him and I have known him for a year or so to know that his age does not represent his level of maturity and professionalism.

(punch line) I recommend buying a unicorn from this man because he will deliver no matter what.

  6. I have used RobertHost / ServerCrate before.

Robert is a great guy and he knows what he’s doing.
Don’t discern him simply because he is a minor, he is more capable than many adults.

I really enjoyed my time with servercrate, the hardware and support is amazing. You pay incredibly low prices for incredibly good hardware.

However, the uptime could be improved.

    • In the last few, we’ve had less than 2 minutes of downtown, across all nodes, being due to DDOSs. We’re always working to improve our uptime, thank you for your comments.

Why would you limit IPv6 to 16 addresses instead of assigning a /64 on demand? Are you short of IPv6 addresses?

    March 25, 2013 @ 5:52 am | Reply
    • And the question is why do you want a /64

      • Customer:

/48 for an endsite is the recommendation by most RIRs

        March 25, 2013 @ 6:04 pm | Reply
        • A /64 is a lot of IP addresses, if you can justify the need for that many IP addresses, feel free to open a support ticket, and we’ll gladly work something out with you.

Justification for 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 addreses? Are you kidding? :)

/64 have nothing to do with number of addresses. It’s properly allocated subnet. Problem is more in hosts looking at IPv6 from old IPv4 perpective. Get rid of that! Otherwise how can you justify as example 1,208,925,819,614,629,174,706,176 addresses allocated to you? Do you need them?

/64 is proper allocation because internet see and treat /64 as one end user allocation. This means that with banning, blacklisting, filtering, etc one of your client all of them from same /64 will be banned (/64 = one user). Not to mention to use SLAAC (Stateless Address Auto Configuration) on your IPv6 VPN, etc..

    • Solus doesn’t support assigning users subnets.

It would get quite annoying too, since not all DC’s assign a client a /48 then /64’s to each server.

Normally dedicated companies assign /64’s so you’d end up getting a /122 or whatever.

  13. Tom:

IPv6 here is bunk. Has worked maybe 15% of the total time I’ve had the vps, got a free month service for my trouble, but my requirement was always the v6, so even with the free month, this service has been useless. Support is constantly blaming their uplink, tickets get left in limbo about it. Even went as far to tell me the uplink is getting 20+gbit attacks, which is why v6 isn’t working. Well let me tell you, if there was a 20+gbit attack for this long, and it’s keeping the uplink v6 network down taking that kind of bandwidth, it would be enough to contact the feds over. I think I’m being given lines here. As long as you don’t need ipv6, ever… they atleast respond to tickets quickly, and the vps runs smoothly.

  14. I moved onto a ServerCrate VPS a couple months ago and honestly it is the fastest, leanest, most pleasant server I have ever worked on, and I’ve experienced zero down time. I’m about to order another instance to see if I can get a CentOS 6 LAMP dev box with Gnome running so I can develop with a GUI from anywhere :)
