LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

SimplerCloud - $5/m KVM 1GB RAM / 20GB SSD / 1TB BW - in Singapore

EDIT: Without so much as a word to us they have stopped honoring their promotion quickly after the post went live. Repeatedly after this post people would attempt to sign up and noticed that the promo code wouldn’t work. I highly doubt very many people were able to sign up. This will likely be their last offer here since they appear unable to manage a promotion.

Rebecca from SimplerCloud contacted us with an offer in Singapore, and I wanted to share that with you guys today. SimplerCloud is a registered company in Singapore with the registration ID 201310033D. At least, that’s what I’m told and that’s what I’m passing on to you guys. Let’s jump straight to the offer.

    • hi – we have two redundant connections to 1-Net (where we are connected to SingTel and StarHub) and another connection to SGIX (Singapore Internet Exchange) where we peer with other ISPs and telco providers within the exchange.

    • This promocode was fully redeemed on the 18th but we’ll be issuing a replacement promocode which works identically shortly. Please open a ticket with us and we will send it within the day. We should also be posting an update here soon.

  26. SimplerCloud: Is this bait-and-switch or posting error? We were looking to open a monitoring station in Singapore but no soup for us!

We opened a ticket to learn why the promo was not working and were informed that they would get back to us. Later we received a lengthy reply, the essence of which is that they are not honoring the promo as stated. According to the company, the offer has already been “fully redeemed.” Which seems a bit sketchy given the promo was supposed to run until2 Feb 2016.

What concerns me is that they attempted to steer us to an inferior promo and invited us to sign-up for their mailing list so that we don’t miss their next great offer.

If the purpose of offering promos is to build good public image then they may have shot themselves in the foot. Credibility and trust are important in a hosting company and hard to restore once lost.

  30. Clarifications:

This promotion has been redeemed for more than 10 days running, from 8th to 18th Jan, SGT. The takeup rate was much higher than expected, but we raised the quota more than once anyway. More than 80 orders have been processed on this promocode, over three times the quota set. We did ask for the promotion description to be updated as fully redeemed. We couldn’t be less interested in switching anyone to another promotion.

    Longform: everything’s detailed here.

    1) Our logs show orders coming in on this code right up to early day of 18th (SGT), so we know it worked till then.

Our records show extensions were done between 8-12th, then around the 16th again. If anyone sent a direct ticket request to us, the code ceiling was raised and shown to work again.

The quota was only upheld from the 18th, after 10 days and by then more than 80 orders had been processed. Until then, if you posted here about the code not working but never opened a ticket, your order would have gotten through if you tried again within a day. Please drop us a ticket if this didn’t happen, we will help you.

    2) 89 PROMOCODES orders have been processed. The quota was 25, and while this is much lower, this and the projected expiry date was based on the total number of takeups for our first offer here 2 years ago (https://lowendbox.com/blog/simplercloud-7month-1gb-ram-20gb-ssd-kvm-vps-in-singapore/) and the much slower takeup rate at the time. Although surprised by the response this time, we were willing to meet the excess demand anyway and did so for several days after the promotion was launched, raising the limit more than once.

    3) It’s our right to set promotion limits but we should have included “While Stocks Last” in the initial description. It’s our mistake for following precedent and assuming it wouldn’t be necessary, but we don’t seem to be the only host who left out a “when stocks run out” note with offers here.

The administrator was told to update the promotion as “fully redeemed” (#376) before the above edit to the description was made. Bigger providers appear to have stopped their offers within a few days of launch, and gotten better consideration in the past (https://lowendbox.com/blog/digitalocean-256mb-kvmxen-5-month-in-new-york-or-amsterdam-with-free-5-credit/).

    4) Final extension: 20 More Promocodes

We understand that some people may have tried the code and posted here after the first 10 days, but we didn’t receive many questions about it in our queue and that’s why the limit was upheld.

But if anyone is still interested, we’ll open a final 20 slots, with NO expiry date. We will update here ourselves when the 20 codes are used up. Sorry, that will be the last 20 and no further.

    SO:

    – anyone who posted HERE about promocodes not working but for some reason NEVER opened a ticket,
    – anyone who still wants to order
    – exception in (5)

Contact us in a ticket and we will give you another promocode that will give you the exact same discount on the exact same plan. You must have an account to submit your order. To be clear: The promotion will be exactly the same. The discount will be exactly the same. The plan will be exactly the same. The new promocode will stop working once the 20 orders are received.

In case there follows more inaccurate verbiage after this: please understand this is not a for-public promotion; anyone who knew the code could use it but we do not volunteer it to people asking generically if we have “promotions”. For example, if you wanted to know why the promocode wasn’t working but wrote in and asked “if we have a promocode” without mentioning “low end anything,” “forum,” “LEB,” “LET,” or anything connected, we would tell you about whatever OTHER non-LEB promotions we had available only.

About the bait and switch insult: we would not waste that amount of time on anything so lame. If someone asks about a promo that has ended, we give them alternate info about whatever else is available as a standard courtesy. We understand that it is disappointing to miss out on a 50% recurring discount but it is beyond ridiculous to imply that we stopped a promotion in order to trick people into signing up for a mailing list.

    5) That said, it goes without saying that everything else – the service agreement, our AUP and support policies, have always applied to these orders. There are no refunds. This is all in the service agreement you must accept when signing up.

Last note: All this was already explained to the person, minus actual numbers. We don’t have many resources to devote to clearing up deliberately crafted inexactitudes in a public forum just because one person doesn’t like the answer to how a promocode can be fully redeemed before its expiry date. Long term, we can’t service any party who clearly thinks this is a better option than expressing himself reasonably to us. It would ultimately detract from resources that should be devoted to servicing our infrastructure and customers.

We believe the above long post addresses all of the miscommunications that we see here. Please contact us through our ticket queue so we can help with specific queries.
