    They’re good and stable.
We can also run OpenVPN-AS on it

  4. Wow, you can’t even have an irc CLIENT on their? kinda strict. I understand the thinking behind it since botnets will “phone home” over irc but that just seems overly paranoid. Don’t see why I couldn’t run irssi to connect to legit irc networks like freenode and such. Honestly I have another server I use to connect to irc on so it wouldn’t be an issue for me but I could see some people being surprised by it.

    • Gary:

Nobody who’s been using VPSes for any length of time is surprised by it, unfortunately.

75% of providers ban any type of IRC activity outright. Some require you to ask first.

And I don’t think it’s botnets, since there are HTTP controlled botnets too. The problem is that IRC used to be DDOS central. A lot of providers are still scared of that happening, so would rather not risk it.

These days you’re more likely to get DDOS’d if you run a game server, but whatever.

      • Spirit:

Actually this 75% isn’t even close to reality and it’s outdated local myth more than anything else. Most providers, atleast those featured here allow IRC. When we had this quarterly vote poll at LET all top3 hosts allow IRC + all 3 honorable mentioned hosts allow IRC. This anti IRC mentality is changed and hosts tend to be more informed regarding IRC nowaday. Even some big DCs like Hetzner which didn’t allow IRC in past have no issue with that anymore.
Apart from that I agree with other things you posted Gary.

        April 16, 2012 @ 11:12 am | Reply
      • Spirit is right, a lot more providers are allowing IRC but there are still some DCs that don’t allow it on their network thus providers in those DCs cannot allow it. While I don’t know about the 75% part, I do think that it might be closer to 50% since most new providers don’t allow IRC and there are more new providers than old providers. It probably breaks down like this:

        Disallows IRC-
        Some new providers
        Most old providers

        Allows IRC-
        Most new providers
        Some old providers

And since there are more new providers than old it looks about 50/50 to me. :)

Not sure but isn’t this a provider that the old LEA would not want to post? Likely a Donn Fry owned or something?

    April 16, 2012 @ 11:39 am | Reply
    • Not sure. We don’t have a “do not post” list at the moment and just use our best judgement.

      April 16, 2012 @ 12:01 pm | Reply
      • @KuJoe You have judged well. sshVM is not owned by Fry.

Btw, recently, we gave refuge to previous Donn Fry owned company which is in the brink of extinction, most of the clients have been moved to our platform.

          Dunno xD
Well, ok. Because I’ve being looking to your site frequently and haven’t found good or bad opinions in this or wht forums :P (I haven’t searched too much).
And because I run lots of gameservers in several locations. Since you offer several locations, cheap boxes, and monthly payment, I was interested :P

    • If there is a “reason”, please post or email. Like @KuJoe said, I am also not aware of any “do not post” list/guideline

  6. @Yomero it’s true you (haven’t searched too much):p If you search for keywords “sshVM” in WHT or Google you should have got at least one or two Good or Bad opinions :p

We are not providing VPS with shiny Xeon or server with RAID10. In fact, it is very difficult to provide VPS with such type of gears. If we would have done that, you would have been seeing our site showing parking page long back :p

Our gears are not hifi, its simple Intel Quad, AMD, i5, i3 proc and RAID1.

Kansas VPS costs $2 per month, We don’t offer monthly payment for this location, minimum payment is Quarterly. Paypal fee + IP cost + Gear Cost doesn’t cover in $2 VPS :)

How much cpu cores you provide in the little plans?
And if you are ok if I am using… like 30% of one core at peak hours :P
The i5 ones are 2xxx? or 1st gen? Just curious :$ (Despite the Scranton location seems out of stock for that plan)

      April 16, 2012 @ 4:26 pm | Reply
      • @Yomero VPS1 comes with 1 core. We are ok as long as it doesn’t effect performance of other VPS. i5 ones are 2xxx series.

        • Yomero:

Thanks. Interested on that i5 ones, only Scranton right? Do you will restock it?

    > Prohibited IRC Server Client

Well, you’ve lost the part of your customers who buy VPS for staying online in IRC 24/7, causing no disk, network or other heavy activity.

    • Joe Merit:

Ya :) Providers dont realize this I guess. I got some VPS I use for irc only and they sit at 0 load, memory use much lower than what I pay for and under 100 MB in bandwidth transfer a month. Its basically free money for the provider minus IP cost.

      April 16, 2012 @ 5:53 pm | Reply
      • We do realize, We can’t disobey Terms applied by server providers. If in case, one VPS running process related IRC cause any issue and server providers shutdown the server this will effect other VPS clients.

If we find budget server providers who allows IRC we are happy to allow IRC. We will think of that in future.

You need to follow up your support ticket, your issues has been already addressed. Anyways, let you know again phishing mail was sent so your VPS has been suspended.

Surely stating that here is a breach of client confidentiality?

      April 24, 2012 @ 5:57 pm | Reply
      • @Gary if someone is doing wrong and then pretending to be very innocent on a public forum, then sure, you have to post back to the community to put it crystal clear on what actually were the reasons behind a suspension

        April 24, 2012 @ 8:40 pm | Reply
        • Gary:

Nope, I disagree. Those kinds of details definitely fall within the realm of customer confidentiality.

What’s wrong with leaving it at “The service was suspended for a reason, please see your ticket”?

They’ve basically accused that user of sending phishing emails. Hardly professional.

          April 24, 2012 @ 10:01 pm | Reply
  12. We didn’t say “You” sent phishing mail. It might be Hack. So, we can’t accuse with word “You sent” We just gave reason for suspension that is “phishing mail was sent so your VPS has been suspended”.

Even though, we had mentioned everything in ticket with logs, client still wanted answer in Open Public forum, question was “why you suspend the account”. When the question is “Why?” and it is public forum even other community members will be looking for answer.

    • Rhonk:

I agree. If you ask why your account is suspended there is no expectation of privacy regarding that matter.

Yeah, I guess aljun didn’t read the notice before commenting: Do not use LowEndBox for support issues. Even if english isn’t your first language, don’t bring it into a public forum if you’re too stunned to understand the concept of public.

Ok i have interesting thing to report.
First of all i’m not new with the linux thing but here is the thing. When in install/reinstall default server with openvpn and when i install official windows openvpn client on windows and load the .ovpn file all fine, i can surf, i can do everything.. simplicity at his best, 5 min work for whole lot of trounble for $9 per 3 monts. Cool, i took one in switzerland and usa. Never the less.
if i try to do the same on linux there is a bit of a problem. I fire up my terminal log on as su and then i start up with this command
openvpn –config myconfig.ovpn then all is good. i can surf, send mails, all cool

but if i inport the same configuration in to network manager via gui, i can get only google site, google search and all of the google services, using linux is fund put there is something with the gui config. so if
any of you got to the same problem please let me know of the solution.
i have ubuntu 12 and e-mail is dalibor (dot) klobucaric (at) gmail (dot) com
