Up2VPS – $25/Year 128MB Xen VPS in Scranton

Tags: , , Date/Time: June 3, 2011 @ 2:22 pm, by LowEndAdmin

UP2VPS UP2VPS is currently having a special on their low end Xen servers, which starts from $25/Year with plan “Xen10”. Related offer on WHT. Order that here, and here’s the spec:

  • 128MB memory/512MB swap
  • 10GB storage
  • 300GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • Xen/SolusVM

It has choice of Clarks Summit (VolumeDrive), Seattle (Sentris), Los Angeles or Germany (Hetzner). However at the moment all except Clarks Summit with VolumeDrive were sold out. Domain registered since September 2009, still the same owner and it has mixed reviews on WHT. Probably one of few low cost yealy Xen plan out there though.

The original owner of LowEndBox known as "LowEndAdmin" or "LEA" for short founded LowEndBox in 2008 and created the concept of hosting applications on low resource "Low End Boxes". After creating the roots of the community that we know today, "LEA" stepped aside and allowed others to carry the torch forward.

“ll except Clarks Summit with VolumeDrive were sold out” Oh, how not obvious. Good luck dealing with VD and their endless problems.

I’d choose VolumeDrive if I had a web site that only needed to be available just a couple days out of the month max.

Unfortunately, this was my experience as well when I tried to rent a dedicated box from VD last year. Their support guys were nice and email responses were usually very quick, but ultimately I had defective hardware from day one, took them four months to replace it with an inferior box AT MY EXPENSE. I’m afraid I wouldn’t host with VD even if it were free.

Their previous WHT 15.99/year OpenVZ offer failed miserable as guy wasn’t able to manage OpenVZ (daily downtimes with futile struggle to fix node) so one day he decided that he have enough of bothering with OpenVZ issues, cancelled it without notification and after customers complained that their vps is down he recreated (not migrated) our account on his xen node which actually works.
I don’t have some big trust into this host as I needed to ask why is my vps down to find out what’s wrong in order to get replacement, however I can’t complain against their Xen node. So far it works. It’s not brilliant however it works.

I think that their openVZ (which was really pain in the ass) wont come back in some near future and honestly… my up2vps xen experience is way better than my old short up2vps openVZ experience.

I forgot to mention that while I really didn’t like this account recreation process without notification I must admit that support replies are almost instant which is OK. This guy seems to live 24/7 near his PC :)

Absolutely DO NOT purchase any services from this company. Their operation is borderline fraud.

UP2VPS advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee, yet in reality the amount of uptime is more around 50% or less.I was only with them for 1 month, but that was enough. Within that month, I experienced complete inaccessibility to my VPS near 3 times a week, and much more often I would experience general server instability. Within that month I received 5 emails mentioned 5 different issues explaining instability with services. When I later detailed all the bad service I was getting, presenting evidence of said emails and requesting at minimum a month of free service, I was promptly denied. In fact, the whole issue was marginalized by UP2VPS, and I was even recommended to terminate my account if I didn’t like the service I was getting. They even denied I was encountering bad service by stating I wasn’t even on the nodes effected. I was shocked with how terrible the customer service was.

Near the tail end of this, server performance actually stabilized, so against my better judgement I decided to pay them and stick around for another month. BAD MISTAKE. I paid by paypal, and according to paypal my payment went through successfully to their 3rd party who handles payments, 2checkout. I got a message the next day claiming that in fact my payment didn’t go through, and that 2checkout flagged my payment as fraud. UP2VPS stated that I will receive a refund soon. I quickly replied and explained that I never had this problem paying by paypal before, and that paypal stated the payment was made successfully to 2checkout. I submitted a ticket to 2checkout inquiring about the issue and the status of my refund. I relayed this back to UP2VPS. Figuring UP2VPS is aware that I’m trying my best to pay them, and working out the situation with 2checkout, I figure they will cut me some slack and not disable/terminate my account for a late payment, especially considering all the poor service I have received. WRONG. My account got suspended the day after the payment was due. I sent an email asking why they suspended my account when I already stated I’m doing my best to work out the issue with 2checkout. I even asked if there was another way I could pay them, possibly even paying them directly with paypal. I remarked how this issue further stained their terrible service record. I got an idiotic, snarky response from UP2VPS threatening to terminate my account because I apparently complain too much. I sent them a heated, blunt reply. Least to say my account is terminated now, essentially for complaining too much for the incredibly horrible service I received. As of yet I have received no refund from 2checkout (it has been 2 days since I submitted a ticket).

UP2VPS are con artists. DO NOT give them a penny under any circumstances.

Becare of this “Black Shop”. UP2VPS is a Internet Fraud indeed.

They charged me twice times(Linux Yearly Plans) and could deliver any service to me. They just said my VPS is suspended and rejected to refund.

They also wanted to charge my bank account recurrently but luckily my bank stops the payments after 2 times were made to them. Now, I reported the case to Police and asked the bank to stop all payments to this “Black Shop”…..
