LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

VertVPS.com - $5.60/mo 256MB OpenVZ in France

vertvpsTyler from VertVPS let us know that they currently have their 256MB OpenVZ plan on sale for $5.60/mo after a coupon is applied. Users can signup with the coupon code LEB20OFF for 20% off their cover price. Servers are located in OVH like everything else in France. The really interesting thing about this offer, though, is that users can pay with bitcoins.

Starter Plan

  • 256MB Dedicated RAM
  • 128MB vSwap
  • 20GB HDD
  • 300GB BW @ 20mbit/s
  • 1 CPU Core

Order Here

Test IP: 178.33.252.213 – Test File

If you’re wanting to pay by bitcoins, you’ll need to add a note to your order mentioning “paying with bitcoins” and they’ll calculate the cost. The price of the VPS will change every month based on the current exchange rate. To date we’ve only had one other offer that allowed bitcoins, but they didn’t last more than 5 – 6 months.

I was a little curious about their design possibly being lifted, but Tyler pointed out that it was actually a free design.

Best of luck to them on this venture for sure :)

Frank

SSL certificate for their SolusVM is not signed.

    • Not to be rude, but why does it need to be? If you don’t trust the company you’re hosting with, you probably shouldn’t be hosting with them. No financial information is stored on VertVPS Servers.

      • Agree.
@littleguy is a little bit weird that is your first time with a solusvm ssl cert self-signed. Lots of providers do this.

Without trying to debate the merits of CA signed certificates (since some think they are useless), what does financial information or trusting your hosting provider have to do with anything? That doesn’t change the potential vulnerabilities. The whole point (for some) is that they don’t know who they’re communicating with, not that they don’t trust their hosting provider.

Good to see the new LEA/Chief sticking to their own new rules… Proxy/Hidden WhoIS?

    • Check all of my write ups, they’re all quite friendly. Their private WHOIS was an oversight and I already asked Tyler if he could at least provide us with his WHOIS.

      • Pricey VPS on OVH servers (With the first month free, or at least it used to be) and they can use private WHOIS?

        Reminds me of… UptimeVPS

        Come on guys :)

        • You should realy remove your website when commenting on other providers ashley.. And they are totally different to UptimeVPS. they have a business model that will ACTUALLY WORK. UPT didnt.

I will give you the first bit since that’s a fair comment, but the second part i cannot agree with. Do you think its okay that they can bypass the WHOIS rules? Or are you just disagreeing to disagree :P

        • It’s not OK and I’ve already asked him to provide me with the information :)

As I said, it was an oversight on my part.

I’m waiting on Chiefs final info on what’s going on with this thread.

Whois still hidden. Obviously the ‘provider’ decided not to follor LEB rules.

Care to remove this offer and ban the so-called anonymous provider. Domain registered just in dec 2011 + hidden whois, likely don’t own his hardware but just rent a OVH server and no info on their site that makes me think this business is going to last. No real registered company, no names, no address, no phone number, no office info, no business plan or anything that can make this provider different than the too many we’ve seen already. Sorry Chief, but i don’t get why you posted this one, against the rules you just set.

if i want to go with OVH i can get a dedi starting 14.99 eur/m with no setup fee (kimsufi) and i’m reasonably sure they won’t hit deadpool next month.

        • This one wasn’t on Chief but myself. I listed them without checking the domain whois.

I’ll be sure to spend a few more minutes on each posting before I list from now on :)

          Sorry.

  3. Anyone know why it’s so pricey?

    February 14, 2012 @ 9:12 pm | Reply
    • Its not realy pricey. It seems like a price that will very possibly work.

e.g paying over £100 a month for servers and only charging $2.50

      February 14, 2012 @ 9:50 pm | Reply
      • I agree on this one.

At least with this price they can work to cover their nodes well.

I’m hoping to see their bitcoin side of things do well. There’s still demand in that market so it could work really well in his favor if he has a sure-fire way to handle the cash.

You talk as if you’re friendly with the guy who owns it… in fact the original posts reads like a friendly favor type post. Care to respond to my post re WhoIS?

          February 14, 2012 @ 10:16 pm | Reply
        • My prices aren’t “pricey”, really, I mean if you like I could be like some other providers and over-sell a node to get the price low enough? But my goal as a business is to provide the best possible performance for the lowest possible cost. That means being able to pay my bills for the server, and not to cram the server full of VPS’s. While we don’t have an official limit on the box, I can guarantee personally that any given node will not contain more than 12 VPS’s.

          February 15, 2012 @ 8:24 am | Reply
        • Not sure if there’s an edit button, but I meant 20 VPS’s. Not 12. Sorry about that typo.

    • TheLinuxBug:

I agree with @Damian @ ipxcore, this is definitely a bit pricey.

      A. It is OVH (This should be mentioned with the test IP, as just saying France makes people think it might be somewhere else (thats better))
      B. OVH provides TONS of bandwidth with their servers, weather you colo (yeah right..) or rent a dedicated server, at least 10TB so limiting your VPSs port speed to 20mbit is a bit ridiculous. Especially with other competitors on OVH offering the availability of a 1 Gbps port with their offers. (miniVPS comes to mind)
      C. Really, 1 Core? for $5.60?
      D. I really think it should be a requirement for people posting offers using OVH here to own their own servers, co-locate and prove it. As most OVH contracts are month to month for rented servers, does not make me feel very confident walking into a VPS deal when you are not sure if they will be there next month.

Regardless of what others decide, I will be avoiding this offer, I think so far the only OVH offer I have even considered after DowntimeVPS is the one from miniVPS, and they have a lot better deal than what is listed here if I recall.

I admire people who are working to start their own business, but using OVH/Hetzner is not a goo way to show your serious in this business, just means you googled “Cheap dedicated server” and came up with a link to OVH or Hetzner. If you really want to be in this industry, do a bit of research and CO-LOCATE SERVERS with a reputable data center. Do not get me wrong, Ovh/Hetzner have decent bandwidth and have been around a while, but when you can rent a cheap ovh server starting at about 30$ USD/month as I said above, it does not breed much confidence on the customers behalf that you will be around in a month (well at least it shouldn’t).

As always, just my 2 cents.

      • Hi,

Thank you for your interesting views on VertVPS.

I think you’ll be glad to know that our server is not $30 a month. It is close to $200 a month after all expenses.

Also, you can check our WHOIS (I’m sure you already have) and you will notice that we have been around since december.

VertVPS will be around for a long time to come.

  6. As for the private whois, dreamhost (my registrar) offers free privacy for all domains, free. I’d just rather the whole internet not know my home address, I’m sure you can understand.
