VikingLayer is currently run by Philip himself, who is located in Sweden. He told us he’d be working to become a sole proprietorship in the future. Their WHOIS information is currently public, which is a good thing. Host nodes contain Intel Xeon E5-1600 Series CPUs, 64GB of RAM, and 3x 2TB hard drives in a RAID setup. VikingLayer is looking to expand to Stockholm, Sweden soon, after which they would like to expand to the United States. These offers come with OVH’s Anit-DDoS Pro, of which the most interesting feature is permanent DDoS mitigation. Servers come with a /112 IPv6, so you’re future-proof! If you have experience with VikingLayer or decide to give them a shot, please share your experiences with us in the comments!

PayPal and BitPay are accepted payment methods. They have a verified PayPal Business account. (D)DoS attacks, port scanning, Tor exit nodes, cryptocoin mining, and SPAM are all strictly prohibited. No illegal activity allowed either and you should be a good neighbor (or you will be contacted by them to discuss the situation; server termination will be used as a last resort. Those who receive frequent attacks that cannot be handled by OVH will be terminated eventually as well. For all the details, please read their Terms of Service.

  1. Thanks for posting our offer! Just wanted to let you know that there seems to be some problems with PayPal IPN (Payment Notifications) at the moment, so if your order isn’t setup automatically after payment – just open a ticket and include your Transaction ID and we’ll help you out! :)

    • If you need fast disk I/O you should wait for our SSD servers which will be released in the near future. I assure you that the I/O is enough for most applications on these servers though.

    • We will never shut down a client just because they get hit by a DDoS attack. The writing here on LEB makes it seems like we’re more restrictive than we actually are. We only shut down clients if they get hit with very frequent and large attacks that causes issues to other clients.

    Hello,
    What will happen if I exceed the 500GB traffic? In the 256mb machine I plan to make a TeamSpeak3 server (VoIP) for 20 concurrent users, and I don’t know if I will exceed the quota.

    Sorry for the newbie question,
    Thanks

    • Hi,

      You will be notified via a support ticket to upgrade your bandwidth. I’m quite certain that a TeamSpeak server won’t use much bandwidth at all.

    December 17, 2014 @ 7:20 am | Reply
    • There’s no strict limit on CPU usage, larger plans gets higher priority (cpu units). Our general limit is that clients shouldn’t run processes that use the equivalent off a full CPU core (1.0 Load) for extended periods of time. However, that is negotiable, seeing as our CPU load is quite low at the moment.

    Philip, from your various responses I gather that this hosting business of yours is also a work of love – and it is important to me. So I plan to order soon.

    Just a a note to consider: there are people, like me, who highly value privacy. By a possible expansion of the business to the US you may lower some of your shields granted by the European legal system, even though your legal place of business is Sweden. When Gandi expanded to the US a couple of years ago, some users did not like that at all.

    December 17, 2014 @ 8:19 pm | Reply
    • Hi,

      I understand your concerns, we value privacy too. We’re operating from Sweden so we’re not under pressure from any United States laws. Of course, content hosted on US servers need to comply with their laws, but it won’t impact users that only have servers with us in Europe. That’s just AFAIK, I’ll do more research on this subject.

      Anyways, our next planned expansions are Stockholm, Sweden and Montréal, Canada. So we’re not expanding to the United States yet.

    I bought 2GB plan a few weeks ago to test against my other similarly spec’d vps in NL. VikingLayer has much faster upload speeds and it seems also better hardware. Ping is a bit slower from Finland (probably because greater distance). All in all I’m impressed and I’d recommend VikingLayer any day to my friends :) Thanks.

    Viking Layer: 100%[==============>] 104,857,600 19.2M/s   in 5.8s  Average ping rtt 43.455
    My other VPS: 100%[==============>] 104,857,600 9.15M/s   in 12s   Average ping rtt 30.289

    “These offers come with OVH’s Anti-DDoS Pro, of which the most interesting feature is permanent DDoS mitigation”

    My 256MB server has been down for the last couple of hours or so due to DDOS attack on the node (per support).

    Has this attack been to such a scale that it overcame OVH’s pro anti-DDOS? What is the PPS limit on such machines before you null-route them? I am not complaining, just curious.

    January 15, 2015 @ 9:18 pm | Reply
    • Yes, we got hit by a large attack that bypassed VAC. We had to work together with OVH in order to fully block it and we managed to fix it by early morning yesterday.

      We only monitor outgoing packets and auto-suspend servers at 500k PPS. We get e-mail alerts at 110k PPS so we can check on it manually.

      Everything is working great now though and VAC is successfully blocking this attack (which is still coming and going).

      Send in another ticket (or update your current one) and I’ll issue some credit to your account for compensation. The same goes for everyone else that where having issues on SBG1 during the night 15-16th.
