VPSCheap.net - $3.99 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago

VPSCheap When I first received email from Mike at VPSCheap.net, I thought “C’mon?! Haven’t I featured you guys just 3 weeks ago?! Don’t you know the rules?” Then I found out that it’s actually a different company with a different TLD! So this VPSCheap.net also charges more than twice as much for a VPS with the same amount of memory — but with more disk space and unmetered bandwidth. For $3.99/month you get

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

PayPal only it seems. Use promo code LEB50off to get 50% off for the first 3 months. Servers with FDC Server in Chicago (hence cheap unmetered bandwidth). Domain registered in February 2010. Having the pair of NS running on the same physical server.

    • What? You expect that these providers actually read, remember and understand the marketing copy on their websites? I think by now we’ve proven a number of times that that isn’t going to happen.

    Bad experience –
    * control panel died
    * Instances randomly stall
    * password does not work for control panel

    And worst of all, it seems they have very high latency for support tickets. 5 days since I lodged ticket regarding the password issue, and still no response.

    Although we should not expect too much from such cheap service, a working control panel is at least.

  12. I picked up the 128 meg deal, and it was not quite enough for mysql/php/lighttp (at least not with my limited understanding of web server optimization, which is kind of why i started small) I upgraded to the 256 meg plan and after a couple days doing some research I was able to get a really awesome web-server configured.

    The machine is responsive, the pings are great, overall best bang for the buck I have found.

    Thanks.
