VPSslim were founded in 2010, however this is their first offer on LowEndBox. They don’t have a Terms of Service because they claim their services have “No contracts, all of our products are prepaid”. I have spoke to a few hosts and they have told me that this is nonsense, as it’s still a contract for a set period of time. There is a long post on LowEndTalk which you may like to view before purchasing, where some customers have complained of poor performance. However, on their latest LowEndTalk offer, they claim the problems have now been fixed. You can use the promotional code “LET50VPS” to get the 256MB OpenVZ for €2.99 a month and the 1024MB plan for €4.99.

VPSSlim offer a full 7 days money back guarantee and accept Bank transfers, PayPal and iDeal as payment methods. VPN is allowed for personal use only and adult content is allowed. TUN/TAP & PPTT can be enabled and they offer a 99.99% Uptime guarantee. When ordering, you can choose from quite a few different addons including bandwidth, software (Castcontrol, Centovacast and cPanel) and IP addresses.

Network Information:
Their servers are fully owned and are located with SERVERIUS in Dronten, the Netherlands.

    And are torrent allowed`?

  2. LowEndCriticus:

They have a ToS: http://hostslim.nl/voorwaarden.pdf But it’s only in Dutch.

    tl;dr:
    – Dutch jurisdiction applies.
    – No adult sites or ‘mp3 sites’, depends where the datacenter is located. In other words, it’s allowed to host adult sites on VPSes in this offer, Till the servers of VPSslim relocate outside the Netherlands.
    – Nulled scripts aren’t allowed. But I strongly doubt that it would be an issue since there are enough open source / free scripts nowadays :P

As a sidenote I get the impression that you aren’t really buying a VPS at them, you’re ‘subscribing’ yourself for a VPS with a fee. You could only unsubscribe yourself after 6 months. Paying goes via automatic incasso. So when you want to just have a VPS for a year, you have to act in due time. In case when you want to continue the service but don’t pay timely even after you get a x amount of notification, you’ll get changed € 45,- exclusive VAT extra.

Conclusion: Not quite shocking. It’s a fair deal, as long as you keep attention like you have to do with each purchase of a VPS-service at any provider.

Or even more, what would happen if the IO problem comes again. Last offer they posted was a total fail since they oversold as hell, and servers has around 4Mb/s IO.

Its a sweet, tasty, but risky to take. I’m considering the offer, Netherland is an interesting country for me, and server is just godlike.

They’re an established company so it’s unlikely they’re planning on turning off the service anytime soon. They’ve been around 4 years and are a registered company in the Netherlands

As @fatmike told before, could you tell me @VPSSLIM what guarantees I have if I get one of your VPS? I wouldn’t like to get a real powerful VPS and lose it with all my information with no warning. VPSSLIM has been overselling too much and its quite strange.

If you can convince me about no worries, you probably will get +1 client for one year.

          Here’s a reply :)

This is what a VPSSlim Pro plan which is supposed to have 200GB of diskspace looks like after 30-days. I’ve only used 3.3GB of storage and there is only 25GB of hard drive space available not the 196 GB I should still have available.

          > df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
          /dev/simfs 74G 3.3G 25G 12% /
          tmpfs 1.0G 0 1.0G 0% /lib/init/rw
          tmpfs 1.0G 0 1.0G 0% /dev/shm

          >”At first you think the server is fast because you’re on a fresh node but 2weeks later the server is like freaking slow & unstable mainly cause they oversell. You can easily tell by checking your disk space it is slowly shrinking”

Yep, this node was fast 30 days ago. The server is now slow, unstable, and the 200GB of available storage space has shrunk to less than 30GB. This same thing has happened to me on every node I’ve been on at VPSSlim.

  32. I used the VPS BASIC service for about two-three months, just to see if it was worth it.

+ Support is very quick to respond and very helpful

    – Slow to connect, as if the machine is in hibernate, often have to wait around 10 seconds for a login or a webpage.
    – I had two downtime notices 3 minutes before the host was brought down for what appears scheduled maintenance like updating the ipv6 config.
    – Commands like top,ls, git pull can take random 0-10 seconds to start.

As a hobby web developer this machine is unusable. I canceled my account and not going to use the 9 months I already paid for, because its to frustrating slow.

    Stay Away from HostSlim
You get what you pay for is there motto I’m sure. I got this offering and it was good at the start. I setup a VPN on the server. After a few months of no problems I went to use the VPN and found there was no connection.
I logged into the server and tried to start openvpn and I got this:

    SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
    SIOCSIFDSTADDR: No such device
: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
    SIOCSIFMTU: No such device

I did a quick google search and found this is a problem on the openvz server.

When I opened a support ticket explaining the problem this is the response I got:

    Hi,

What you’re trying to say is that we should check if tun/tap is enabled on your vps?

If you have more questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards,
    Ralph

After a 3 days of back and forth in the ticket I could again establish a VPN connection. Then just 8 days later Tun/Tap was dead again. I reopened the ticket and I was asked if I had rebooted the server. When I tried that and updated the ticket I got this response:

    Hi,

Please stop rebooting your vps then if we are working on it :)

If you have more questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.Kind Regards,
    Ralph

I updated the ticket 3 more times with no response and 4 days later the ticket closed with no resolution.
I reopened the ticket and 3 days later I get a response saying it should be fixed, Nope still broken
1 more day, another update saying it should be fixed: nope still not working
Eventually it took over a month and 4 separate tickets to resolve this issue.
Then just as I thought everything was working fine it died again not even 15 days later.
So Now I am on day 12 of my 3rd Tun/Tap outage and still my ticket ends up closing because of no updates from hostslim.

I lost it on them today, I was “that” customer that I hated when I worked in support. I’m not proud of my response but I’ve honestly had enough of these guys. Their response to my rant:

I’m not mad that easily so don’t worry as I do understand you’re frustrated. Though you’re not paying the money to rush us at all.

We’ll keep you updated later today/tomorrow.

If you have more questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards,
    Ralph

Rush them? Good God rushing is having something fixed in a few hours.

Stay the hell away from these jokers!

Some notes on commenting on LowEndBox:

  • Do not use LowEndBox for support issues. Go to your hosting provider and issue a ticket there. Coming here saying "my VPS is down, what do I do?!" will only have your comments removed.
  • Akismet is used for spam detection. Some comments may be held temporarily for manual approval.
  • Use <pre>...</pre> to quote the output from your terminal/console, or consider using a pastebin service.
