LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

WiredServ – $5 64MB OpenVZ VPS

Updated December 2009 — WiredServ.com is dead. See also AroraNetworks and their own “Louis Lobban”.

WiredServ Via this WHT offer. WiredServ, a new hosting provider with domain registered 2 months ago (& WHOIS protected — not a good idea for a service provider!), has advertised some cheap OpenVZ VPS offers. For $5/month, you get:

  • 64MB guaranteed / 96MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 50GB/month data transfer
  • 5 IP addresses

Their website tracerouted to Chicago. Use the coupon code “doublelinux” to get double HDD and RAM + half price 1st month. I’ve just tried that but their ordering system does not seem to honor the code though.

The original owner of LowEndBox known as "LowEndAdmin" or "LEA" for short founded LowEndBox in 2008 and created the concept of hosting applications on low resource "Low End Boxes". After creating the roots of the community that we know today, "LEA" stepped aside and allowed others to carry the torch forward.

  1. There little logo there saying “There here to stay” should be written as “Their here to stay” to be grammatically correct.

Also, isn’t 5 IP’s a bit much for such a low end plan?

  2. Their little logo*

Silly mistake to make, especially since I’m correcting grammar myself…

Actually, it should be “They’re here to stay” …

  4. Haha. I am pretty sure I’ve got a bunch of sysadmins here reading this blog because no one has figured out what’s the correct English grammar :) Yes it is “They’re here to stay” or just make it less ambiguous, “They are here to stay.”

Funny, when English native speakers are not able to agree on a correct formulation. Hopefully, the server is set up with no typos in config files…

  6. D’oh. Your right there abjr; back to English class for me. Luckily I don’t plan on ever majoring in English..

But the point remains that if they are a reputable company they should at least go over their front page logo-quote-thingy once, so that they don’t make stupid mistakes like me.

Haha 5 IP addresses. Great for spammers. But seriously, 4 extra IPs usually cost $4 a month. I would rather exchange those for more ram and bandwidth.

For some reason, the php-cgi’s from Ubuntu 9.04 are giant memory hogs.

Just tried ordering, but the Paypal payment goes unclaimed. Doesn’t that usually only happen to new Paypal accounts? Plus, the email address on this Paypal account is louislobban [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk. Somehow this sets of little alarm bells in my head. We’ll see how it goes with this one…
