XVPS - $6.60 256MB OpenVZ VPS with 1Gbps

XVPS.us Mark from XVPS emailed me yesterday about some of the new development they got. Besides Seattle and France, they have recently deploy VPS nodes in Chicago with ServerCentral and are giving LowEndVPS readers 12% off recurring discount with promo code LOWEND2010. So for $6.60/month you can get the following package in Chicago:

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 400GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in Seattle and France are cheaper at $5.72/month after the discount.

    @Anonymous, What’s wrong with Delimiter? I have one with them since January, only got 15 minutes downtime for 6 six months, and it was Cogent issue not node issue.

    As explained in the previous post, we employ the same design/marketing freelancer who designed Delimiter, but there is no relation beyond that. I have been involved with VPS hosts before XVPS, but neither of them were Delimiter. :)

  16. About the site — our main webserver is having some issues (drive failure); we’re getting everything restored now and the site should be back online tonight. (SolusVM servers and the VPS clusters are unaffected.)

    Unfortunately our mail goes through that server as well, until it’s back our support can be reached at xvpsusa@gmail.com (or chat via AIM/MSN/Google Talk, same email address).

  17. @Mark — just get a small VPS on your other location as a backup MX, and sync the necessary configuration files (aliases, virtual mappings, etc) on regular basis. That’s a good use of a low end box, isn’t it? :)

  23. @Lupetalo — If you’re really getting only ~4mbps consistently, you should open a ticket for transfer to another node. Typically we ensure that each client in a node’s population can achieve at least 15-25mbps, on the 1gbit servers.

    ‘Anonymous’ — We are operating many nodes with 99.99-100% uptime; there are, as always, one or two exceptions–mostly one, in Seattle–and those affected are talking about it here, while the 98% remainder are no longer reading low-end VPS ads. :)

  29. What a surprise:

    We are pleased to advise you that XVPS has been acquired by Yomura Holdings. XVPS will be maintained as a seperate brand and there will be no changes to prices or services.

    Whilst we work through this transition, we ask that if there are any pressing issues that need immediate attention that you contact us as transition@xvps.us. Support and sales will be handled through the usual channels on the client portal.

    We look forward to working with you and hope that we can continue the fantastic service that you have become used to at XVPS.

    Well its been almost full month since they are owned by Yamoura, only thing is no support. up time is around 85% monthly…
    I have one year left, so i take my essential buisnes someplace else, and use XVPS for bandwidth and data storage….

    Quite a claim Omio, no wonder you didn’t provide a link where you can be contacted.

    Their customer service still has to prove itself, but speeds and uptime seem good to me so far. I wouldn’t pay a year up front, but for how little I’m paying, I’m sure I’ll get my money’s worth and more.

    @LEB: This sounds more like someone with sour grapes than anything concrete. Probably someone who got their service shutdown.

    Yomura is registered company and so is Delimiter, you can find them on Companies House in the UK.

    Omio posted about Delimiter on here too with the URL http://www.havehost.com and centriohost.com. Centriohost.com shows the details:

    Centrio Hosting, LLC., Kamrul H. Bappy (), Flat 7 Barbanel House, Cephas Street, London, E1 4JL, United Kingdom

    But there is no Centrio Hosting LLC listed in the UK or US, so a tad strange.

    @ Lupetalo write that ….. “up time is around 85% monthly…” lol you people want to tell these 85% is good uptime? Ha Ha…

    Aha, I never use deli / xvps before. Already told about them over delimiter posts recently I believe. Their paypal was shut down due to fraud, and the day I was going to buy the service I found that their paypal suspended. Also send them several support tickets, those answered “never”…!

    I founds them somekind of fishy… If you guys found them good, why not you all go for that hosts… Thumbs UP ;)

    September 11, 2010 @ 4:37 pm | Reply
  58. Gary:

    85% sucks, but it all depends what you do with the VPS, whether that is acceptable or not. I don’t have this package, I got:

    * 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
    * 30GB storage
    * 300GB/month data transfer
    * OpenVZ/SolusVM

    for less than $5/month. I don’t host websites on it, so a bit of downtime is acceptable. Mine’s had way more than 85% uptime, and the downtime I have had is down to an OVH problem.

    For what I use it for, the VPS is a good deal. I’ve seen no evidence of them being a scam, only anecdotal evidence of ropey customer service, which I’ve yet to experience personally.

  59. Gary:

    Ok, just a heads-up. Don’t do business with these guys, they’re scum.

    I bought a vps from them, in france. It works fine.

    I then bought a VPS from them, in germany. It worked for a day, then broke. I couldn’t connect to it from anywhere, re-imaging the OS didn’t work, they wouldn’t respond to tickets.

    4 days of me updating the tickets asking why they wouldn’t answer later, I open a paypal claim.

    Now my .FR vps has been suspended, with no contact from them. The working one I paid for is now locked down, and I can’t use it.

    They’re thieves. Stay away.

  60. Gary:

    Oh, and to top it all off, they’ve invoiced me $25 for my paypal chargeback. Good luck with that one, guys. :D

    I’m confused about why they suspended the .fr one because of the chargeback and not the .de one that I actually did the chargeback for.

    I guess it’s just more Yomura uselessness.

  61. Paul:

    Delimiter.us invoiced me $50 for paypal chargeback (they billed me twice and support ignored my requests for refund, so i opened paypal dispute) and shutdown my servers right afterwards. They told me if i pay this, they will get my servers back on, so i paid and they change their mind afterwards then deleted my two vps servers and so as my account. So i got ripped off for $130.

    September 27, 2010 @ 10:00 am | Reply
  62. Paul personaly i believe that they acted correctly in regards to the $50 chargeback (We charge the same) it covers any reasonable costs such as legal advice and any bank costs. (Providers get charged for chargebacks). in future do not chargeback as it will result in things going wrong for you. However they also decieved you when they said they would put servers on. if you are in the UK i suggest you to contact the trading standards.

    Good luck..

    Daniel: I understand that chargeback generate costs, but that shouldn’t be thrown at client. How come should i pay for company’s mistakes ?

    September 28, 2010 @ 10:43 am | Reply
  64. Gary:

    Indeed. You’re mental for paying the $130 though. They messed up, ignored support tickets from you asking them to rectify it, then tried to fine you for dealing with it in another way?

    You should always (but even more so when dealing with cheapo hosts like we are) keep regular backups so you can just throw a VPS away if it dies. No waiting for it to come up to get your files, just put the latest backup on a new VPS and you’re up and running in no time.

    Chargeback generates costs, but people wouldn’t need to do chargebacks if Yomura actually replied to tickets and fixed their own mess.

    They didn’t even suspend the correct VPS when they suspended me for issuing the chargeback. That’s the kind of morons we’re dealing with.
