LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

YDGH - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS

YourDomainGoesHere YourDomainGoesHere (YDGH) has released some pretty competitive VPS packages. For $5/month you are getting the following OpenVZ virtual server

  • 512MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1,000GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses
  • OpenVZ/vePortal

Yeah, before someone yells out Yet Another BurstNET reseller, apparently their servers are with colo4dallas in Dallas TX. You are also getting 30 days money back guarantee and 24x7x365 support as claimed in its company page. Well they might have some experience under their belt if the registrant of the domain was senior sales executive of CI Host, and Corey got a few good reviews on the net.

Slow download speeds – May just be my VPS’s location though. (Hetzner – DE) A trace route shows they aren’t hosted in the Burst.net data centre – Or at least their main website isn’t.

  8. The following clause is the most interesting:

All sites are restricted to a usage of 30% over 60 seconds total load on our processers/memory/disk at any one time including disk space. Sites exceeding our load limit will be temporarily banned, notified, and given a chance to correct load issues.

So they are not providing PRIVATE servers at all. I understand why proxy/vpn/irc are prohibited – they can be used for malicious activity. But processers/memory/disk??

Looks like the main disadvantage of these cheap hostings are not overselling (my cpu tests at spacerich show that cpu is not loaded at all) but these strict AUPs.

I understand the hostings though – they don’t want ‘noisy neighbors’ on their servers, and permit only those “1 visitor a month independent personal blogging”.

  9. We don’t offer burst simply for the fact that you’re already getting a ton of ram for the price you pay, we could just as easily give you only 256MB and let you burst to 512, but I bet you would prefer the 512 guaranteed.

We have basic-managed services, this does not include installing anything like “kloxo”. We have managed services for $50/mo if you would like to go that route.

The OP of that post simply wants something for nothing which he will not find with us. We have to make money just like everyone else.

  12. No Swap, No Burst all ram is guaranteed. Setup fees are not listed because VPS and Resellers do not have a setup fee. I will have someone add $0 setup to the vps and reseller page. That is in our TOS for Dedicated servers. If someone asks for a high end dedicated server, and then cancels within 30 days YES we are going to recoup some of our cost!

We are not completely unmanaged, we do help with everything we can. At the same time though, at $5/mo … It is a little unrealistic to expect us to support everything! As long as there is not much in queue to be done, such as tickets, scheduled maintenance, flood of sales needing to be setup, ect… We will normally help out with anything we can!

100Mbps+ connection fully burstable on ALL services unless specified on a custom plan (Such as a Dedicated server with 10Mbps Dedicated/UNMETERED)

Do not hesitate to call and or email me directly with any questions or for more information!

  14. I signed up today, and so far, I’m impressed. Ping times are low all across the U.S probably d/t the Dallas colo. No stability issues noted so far. No complaints here.

Now I guess I’m just curious if they’ll maintain the same price and performance as user load increases. I sure hope so.

Anywho, I’ll let y’all know if I have any issues.

    @YDGH-Wayne – Good luck w/ your start-up

  15. @Andy that is just to protect us in case someone wants to cause high server load and use so much I/O so that it affects other customers.

  16. TOS are for all customers in general. I do admit we need a more elaborate TOS. For now, it basically covers all services!

As for the “1 visit a month” users … .. ROFL!!!!!!

We have several servers, and we have the small low traffic sites, and we have customers actually using 80%~ of the resources they are paying for. VPS included.

Basically….. Our policy is that if its legal and its not hurting anyone its probably ok…. Eventually, we will increase our TOS to be more inclusive and more precise. In the mean time, the fact that we value our reputation and want to grow a long term business should hopefully be enough! :)

And thank you Daniel, Scyllar, LowEndAdmin, and Jack! :)

  17. @Jackk The speed bottleneck is probably due to your host. I logged in to my YDGH VPS and got 10-12M/s to Chicago (http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test) and 25 M/s downloading the YDGH test file.

@YDGH: Does ‘we reserve the right… to filter services such as IRC’ preclude legitimate use of IRC, i.e. private bouncers, small (<10 users simultaneous, usually) servers?

    August 2, 2010 @ 2:13 am | Reply
  21. @InsDel

Thank you, and Yes we allow legitimate use of IRC.

What matters is the way a company does business, because ANY successful web hosting business I am aware of, has a relatively inclusive TOS!

We try to be very reasonable and understanding of all customers. If what you are doing is legal, and it is not harmful to anyone, we pretty much are probably not going to interfere!

  23. I apologize Jason, I did not see this post.

Corey is a “techie” he is learning what customer service is! lol

Corey has not made a rude post since this date, that I am aware of. And if he has I am pretty sure its been corrected!

If ANYONE at YDGH is ever rude, let me know personally and I assure you it will be fixed! We are people, and I myself have gotten defensive and found myself being a little short with a customer before… But I will fix it and realize my mistake and correct it!

There are several of us here to provide you support, and we will make mistakes. Bottom line, I assure you we WILL do our best to give you the best service we can. We are VERY PASSIONATE about YDGH and even if we mess up, we will fix it the best we can!

Everyone has received a reply and been set up on a new server as of the 28th, not by our choice… as the colo provider we were with took their time getting the new server up and running – as well as other simple tasks. Noone will understand – but we can all agree it is unacceptable.

      • I fail to see the reasons? It took time to recover the 3TB of data on the slow disks we had back then. We were using software raid and 30MB/s disks… we have spent thousands of dollars upgrading servers and have increased I/O to around 90MB/s and use hardware raid now.
