LowEndBox Top Providers Q3 2012 - The Results

In late september we asked you, the community, to vote for your favourite LowEnd Provider. After two weeks of voting, we can now reveal who the top three providers are for Q3 2012. Without further ado, here are the top three LowEnd providers:

First: PrometeusSecond: HostigationThird: BuyVM
Prometeus.net

In first place, with a whopping 111 Points, is Prometeus! To celebrate, Prometeus is offering 10% off all KVMSSD plans with the coupon code LEB3Q10.

  • 256MB Ram
  • 1 CPU Core

  • 1000GB Bandwidth

  • € 3.51 /month | ($4.60~)
  • € 35.10 /year | ($46~)

hostigation.com

In second place, with 79 points, is Hostigation! Hostigation rarely do promotions, but they’re offering $5 off their 256MB yearly plan with the coupon code GREATSTEAK.

BuyVM

Last but not least, following closely behind Hostigation with 76 points, is BuyVM! Whilst they’re not offering any discounts, BuyVM have stock available at either location.

Prometeus were first featured on LowEndBox in April of this year. They came second in the Top Providers Q2 Poll, narrowly beating Hostigation by a point. Salvatore, the owner, is very active within the community and has had three other offers listed on LowEndBox since April. Something which is interesting to point out, is that there doesn’t seem to be any negative comments or reviews regarding Prometeus. Salvatore is well liked on LowEndTalk, he seems to treat all of his clients as though they were paying thousands of dollars a month; not the few dollars most pay.

Hostigation are one of the oldest LowEndBox providers still going having been apart of the community since December 2010. Whilst hostigation are not one of the cheapest providers around, they certainly are one of the more premium. One user recounted how he needed help and submitted a ticket at 1 a.m in the morning and Tim was helping him 5 minutes later! Hostigation’s only other appearance in the Top Providers poll was when they came third in the 2012 Q2 one.

It is probably fair to assume that BuyVM are the largest LowEndBox provider. In every previous Top Providers poll, BuyVM have appeared in it – winning twice and coming third twice. They’re also one of the most innovative providers on here; they’re currently building their own control panel (Stallion), they were the first provider to launch SSD Cached nodes and offer filtered DDoS protected IP addresses. $15 /year stock in New York will be available later this week.

You can view the final point table here. A special mention should go to newcomer RamNode who finished fourth and EDIS who finished fifth and received 8 Honourable Mentions (three more than anyone else).

TheHackbox has won a 2048MB OpenVZ for one year courtesy of ChicagoVPS, who came sixth.

    • Could you provide Centos5 for the KVMSSD packages?

      • I think that the centos5 iso are in the media library. In the process order choose one of the available, you can change the iso later.

My research and hunch was right on. I am a new commer to this forum and I got one vps from Hostigation and buyvm.net. These guys really know what they are doing!

Prior to my selection, I contacted several providers here and some of them they even advertise but fail to answer simple email questions. :(

Tim and Fran, you guys rock!

    Best,

    Gio

  24. I missed the poll since im traveling and in Sri Lanka for a business trip. I have services from all three and I love all of them for having these LEB boxes for us. Prometeus is definitely shining and although newer then all others, has proven to be a favorite for most.

    Congratulations to all!!

Surprised by this list. Unsure if we need a longer contest cycle or what.

BuyVM is a favorite on here and owner is active (A++). I like their services. Better than many providers I’ve had service with.

Prometeus’ offer is very small on disk side and is based in Europe (do we have skewed international audience here?) Interesting from the SSD speed perspective though.

    Hostigation I nearly forgot existed.

There are lots of providers out there. Hopefully, we get better sample of those companies on here soon and a larger voting public.

Odd rankings also because we have kind of redefined what a low end box is with some of the offers (SSD’s, multiple cores, large RAM, etc.)

Maybe a contest for best fixed rated annual plan?

    • For me, the most important is uptime, stability, and reliability. I can sleep better at night having services with these guys.

      October 18, 2012 @ 2:14 am | Reply
      • Same with John :)
And another good point is how the company handle the customers. :)
I’ve threated like I’m having more than $1000 service with Prometeus, just like I’m a VIP person :D

        October 18, 2012 @ 2:29 am | Reply
  26. Whoa:

I have VPS with each of these three providers (two with Prometeus actually) – highly satisfied with each one.

Each one has great performance, uptime and great support.

Prometeus being my favourite because of EU location and all the small ways (Uncle ?) Salvatore accomodates all my small requests – really outstanding support.
Tim at Hostigation also is very obliging in support.
BuyVM has great support too, but does have a “big company” feel to their support approach.

BuyVM/Frantech’s one-liner support doesn’t seem very motivated or professional. Not impressed.

I have had services with all three at one time or another and can not talk highly enough about any of them. I currently do not have a vps with hostigation but when I did Tim was spot on with the support and help. He helped me with a lot of things most hosts would not really help with like Cpanel configs. I am happy that he is in the top 3.

Prometeus is the newest of the three I am trying so far so good I am very happy with the service. I had asked for some custom isos to be loaded and they provided them distro PIAF. Very impressive, however I was not able to use them due to the hex core arch that the nodes run on so I went with fusionpbx. I can’t blame them as that is not their problem. I currently have a 512MB KVM vps with them very happy.

Buyvm what can I say. I have the most vps’s with them at the moment, but I have also been with them the longest. Francisco runs a tight ship and I have not had any real problems with any of the vps servers I have with them.

I would also like to note on all three providers uptime and service levels have been so high that I rarely have to open tickets for anything. Very Impressive for all three. I have had many providers over the years and so far these three are some of the best ones on a budget I have found.
