LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
From extreme RAM to a tiny year VPS! What will LEB do next? A 384MB quarterly plan, yes…
I’d like to see how these perform over other yearly plans out there ;)
This is a pretty good vps. Bought their last offer at 18.75 with double disk and bandwidth (over a month ago).
Only complaint would be that for a few weeks there were some network stability problems at the DC and these have since been corrected.
Phoenix line more crowded
These guys are total scammers — an accidental double payment, as they sent me a invoice and expected me to pay that, then the automatic payment took another payment, resulted in double payment and suspension of my account for trying to get one payment back. Ask for a refund, and they fight you tooth and nail about it.
I got the 128 Volts ($25/year – minus the coupon here) plan with the intention of running nagios in a different place than the rest of my hosts.
I ordered on Oct-16, payed by PayPal, chose Ubuntu 10.04 and the server was ready in minutes.
Except: it had no network access.
I tried re-installing through the control panel.
I tried switching to Ubuntu 11.04 and Debian 6 (all 32-bit).
Ubuntu only had an
interface. Debian had no interfaces set up at all.
Ubuntu 10.04/11.04
Debian 6.0.2
I tried several common interface names, but none worked.
Additionally, it appears that the OpenVZ network driver is not loaded:
I hit Post too quickly.
I opened a support ticket, but it looks like I am limited to one response every 24 hours.
They suggested it is a problem with the particular IP address assigned to the container and they could change it, but so far, nothing.
I do not know how it is fibervolt?
I made two ticket, but such a long time did not return.
The biggest problem is that the VPS disk is very slow, slow to unacceptable.
Prior to their customer service ticket issued to explain the situation, the customer said it was a technical problem, to address.
I request a replacement node. But no reply.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. These guys are amateurs — at best. One of them had to leave the country (being the US).
Do not want to happen is very unfortunate, but now I just want to pray VPS can be for one year, so I relieved!
