Courtesy of Dustin B. Cisneros from RackNerd who shared this news on LowEndTalk, we received notice today that SolusVM 2 is now available!
It also appears SolusVM has updated their main website today with a refresh to show that SolusVM 2 has been released as “the next generation of time-tested VM solutions.”
It’s about time, considering SolusVM 2 was promised back in 2010, with an original anticipated release date of May 2012. 10 years later, we now have something tangible and usable and the update we’ve all been waiting for!
SolusVM 2 looks to be a spin off of SolusIO, which failed to gain traction in the marketplace. LowEndBox previously published an article in 2020 which goes over initial impressions of the Solus.io panel. However, it seems VPS providers are not willing to pay the per-CPU pricing model, and SolusIO did not gain much traction nor did we see many providers using this control panel. Many preferred to just stick with the original SolusVM panel, which had a much more reasonable pricing structure as well as development track record. It looks like they are looking to discontinue SolusIO, as an importer tool is now available for SolusIO users to migrate to SolusVM 2.
SolusVM 2 will be available with the same licensing model and pricing as SolusVM, which is a flat rate per physical server ($10/Month per physical server). This seems to be in line with market rates considering there are other alternatives such as Virtualizor who charge $9/Month, and Proxmox which is free (and one can easily build a wrapper or a frontend for Proxmox to integrate with hosting billing control panel’s such as WHMCS).
Some noteworthy features that are now included with SolusVM 2:
- Out-of-the-box integration with Plesk and cPanel licensing systems to offer cPanel and Plesk-based products.
- More than 10 predefined launch scenarios from Managed WordPress solutions to GIT hosting.
- API first approach. All features are available via API.
- All new, modern and clear UI types for end users and admins.
- KVM, OpenVZ and Virtuozzo support
- Raw and qcow2 disk images for KVM support
- Multiple Volume Group support
- Snapshot Support
The SolusVM 2 roadmap can be viewed here which goes over features that are completed, in progress, as well as backlog/ideas.
The full announcement for SolusVM version 2 can be viewed on SolusVM’s blog here. We should not expect many providers to be switched over to SolusVM 2 until early 2023, as an importer tool will not be available until Q1 2023 according to SolusVM’s blog post. However, SolusVM 2 is currently immediately available for those who wish to migrate over from SolusIO, or start as a new installation.
