I’d recommend using CloudFlare for DNS. It is free and protects and optimizes your site.
CloudFlare is a great product and works well with most websites, but its certainly not for everyone.

Took advantage of their November Black Friday deal. Had no issues from November till July. The server started going down every few days. 12 Days ago, I told them I wanted to leave. They promised me it would not be repeated. Because moving is a pain in the neck, I decided to give them one last chance. I figured if they could last a month without me having to open a support ticket, I’d be pleased.
Server is down today. Maybe I have an unrealistic expectation for a Low End Box. I’m not running anything processor intensive…I could run the same setup with a quarter of the RAM they offered in their promotion.
The response to my problem always seems to be them rebooting the server. I’ve heard no explanation of why this keeps happening, or what steps they are taking.
My perfect vision of a provider is one I never have to speak to because I never have a problem. But when I do have one, I like to feel they want to work with me instead of hastily patching me up and sending me on my way without figuring out why I keep having the same problem, even if the problem is me.
Again, maybe that sort of support is not part of a deep discount plan. But it seems that figuring out why someone keeps having problems is less labor intensive in the long run.

I purchased a 1gb VPS located in Orlando last year. The server was maintained daily and used for 3 wordpress installations with limited traffic. The server would go down at least once, pretty much every single day. The support staff was usually quick, most tickets were resolved within about an hour. Most times the node required a reboot, most likely because of massive amounts of abuse.
I was super excited about getting a server in Orlando because I happen to live about 15 minutes from the datacenter. Pings were really good, disk I/O, and frequent server downtime is what ruined it for me. I was really hopeful that things would resolve over time as well. But as the weeks turned into months, server performance seemed to just get worse and worse.
Because these were live sites, I had no choice but to switch providers (RamNode), and my sites haven’t gone down a single time and load MUCH faster. Exact same sites, exact same configuration, still daily maintained server, just about 500% faster.
Here is a quick benchmark from today. Please note: this server is empty and completely unused aside from me logging in and doing yum update, then logging off. I wiped it clean once I migrated my sites. So there are no processes doing anything in the background.

Their control panel stats are super flaky as well. Check out my 1 week stats from today. You’ll notice how it just stops recording. This is just a thing that you’ll need to deal with.
My best recommendation would be to not use their servers for any live site or application. Development is probably fine, which is likely how I’ll utilize my my left over vps until it expires in 2 months. As long as you can deal with low disk I/O and occasional downtime you’ll be fine.

This is the problem when they’re running nodes with 128GB of RAM. They cram as many users as they can on to one node and think the RAM won’t get used up but they don’t realize that its the disk IO that gets used up (and the only way to fix that is with more servers).
You mean they’re overselling? The point of a VPS is to avoid being cluster on an oversold server..

That would be incorrect, we don’t go by RAM. We maintain a perfect balance between the resources and stop filling up a node with new VPS once a bottleneck (whether it be RAM, disk I/O, CPU, or disk space) is approaching. We just still have some legacy servers that are still on the basic RAID controllers but we finished migrating a majority of them to our newer setups.
New orders are locked from being setup on the legacy servers, which means orders are being provisioned on nodes with enterprise RAID controllers (LSI 9271 w/ CVM) for stunning performance :]

I’m almost positive that you are on one of our legacy servers which were on the basic non-enterprise RAID controllers which had disk I/O bottleneck issues. We have approx. a dozen servers that are still on this type of config. We are working on migrating all of them to the newer server but its something we’re still working on (its not an easy overnight process to migrate VPS containers to new hardware).
Our newer setups which new orders are being provisioned on are equipped with enterprise components, such as the LSI 9271 raid controller w/ CVM which is a $600 controller, and some nodes are even on the Dual E5-2620 processors. Well I’m happy to hear future customers may experience less problems than I had. I would implore you to communicate the information you relayed to me to the rest of your existing customers. Reading lowendtalk will reveal a number of clients unhappy for very similar reasons.
Unfortunately a few weeks ago I could no longer afford to have my websites going down on a daily basis (sometimes multiple times a day), so I transferred my data to a new provider. I would have loved to test out your new hardware to see the difference for myself.

Relative new site, tread in this unknown territory carefully. I am not saying we cannot trust them, just no reputation, which you new users will make available for us moving forward.
I am not comparing them to Hostgator as that would not be fair and that would cost you $20 a month anyways.. but other alternatives on this site which have been around for decades at comparable prices.

You’re right in that we aren’t as big as HostGator, but I don’t want WeLoveServers to be of that size anyway. HostGator got swallowed up by EIG and sees customers as just a number. Truth be told I want to keep our company at a size that is manageable and don’t want to be the type of company that sees clients as another number, which is part of the reason why we haven’t made any LEB offers in almost a year as a lot of orders come in from this website. We are large enough to have the resources to stay in business but small enough to care about our customers and know them on a first name basis if that makes sense… we are taking things at a steady pace, and not looking to expand too quickly at this point.
We have been in business for about 2 years and have been featured on LowEndBox in the past with lots of success. I appreciate your vote of confidence; and I look forward to managing WeLoveServers and growing at a rate in which we can handle. :]

Just a warning, they never added Ubuntu 14.04 even after requesting twice. I can’t use the latest because MySQL seems to break after about a month of uptime. Would not recommend unless they add the template.

Even though WLS has some hiccups at times, I have been hosting with them for almost a year with minimal problems. There is the occasional abuser on my node that causes problems, but other than that, it has been good.

Hi, would the 256MB VPS work okay with a Mumble server? I am having some issues with my current VPS with regards to getting it installed and maybe it’s a limitation on the RAM that is the problem although I got Mumble-server to run on my 256MB RAM RaspberryPi without so much as a hitch.
You should be fine as we also have vSwap included with the 256MB plan :] I know for a fact we have many customers running voice servers on our lower RAM VPS servers and I haven’t heard of any reported issues.

My VPS looked good for a few months and I just used it to for random devel stuff. Then I moved some fairly low traffic static sites and setup pingdom. I would get (2-3 times/week) timeouts on the site or they would take 5-10 seconds to load. After filing a ticket they kicked off some abusers.
Then problems started again and it has been down for the last 12 hours. Apparently they were having fsck problems and they said it would be up in a few hours but it is not yet.
I think they respond to tickets *very fast*. And I mean very fast as in they actually look into it not just send me a form response.
But these repeated incidents of the node getting overloaded and now this downtime ………..

I have been hosting with them for few months. I used WLS for my personal blog and few statics websites.
I encountered some very low I/O on my VPS and submitted ticket to helpdesk which helped to reboot the node i am on. Didn’t really fix it, but a week after i saw the I/O got better.
For the price, I am pretty satisfied with WLS. And of course, there is always an area of improvements.

I can also confirm what the other guys have been saying: super quick response times, very friendly and helpful people, but the IO speed has declined massively – at the start I was able to get 150MB/s, maybe 175 on occasion. Now it’s more like 30MB/s most of the time. I just tested now (1:10AM here, so off-peak time) and got this:

i’m also using WLS service from last two month now m thinking to switch because of frequent downtime..as per my pingdom stats my uptime is about 97.2% in last one month there was 18 outages for about 18hours..i’m switching will consider INIZ or PeakServers…please tell me ur views about INIZ
Decided to check in on my empty vps with weloveservers. Unsurprisingly it’s down, logging into control panel gives me the very familiar “An error occurred processing your request. The host is currently unavailable. Please try again later”. It’s been like that for 3 hours. Thankfully I don’t actually use this server anymore so I don’t care, although I imagine it will be down until they eventually reboot the node.
This is why I moved my sites and I’m so glad I did. This and the horrible i/o, which is possibly fixed for new customers.
I was looking over my email archives and laughed at the difference when I switched from these guys. Every single day I was getting alerts from my uptime monitoring service about website downtime. I’ve yet to receive a single alert email since migrating my sites off of weloveservers. Thank god my headaches are gone.

I bought servers here because many people said “oh, great support”. Yesterday I tried to reinstall system on servers… after 6 hours and many messages, I got system with some pre-installed services that not needed, I asked support to get me “clear default” system, but answer was “it’s not possible”.
Support is awful.

Have been using WeLoveServers for ~6 months… Pretty bad experience, the entire server feels like it is just crawling along. Would not recommend.
They not only needed two weeks to provision my server (paid and confirmed Aug-18, setup confirmation mail from September!), but the VPS has been unreachable on several occasions – I did not get around to installing something real on the VPS because whenever I had time to do so it was either offline or extremely slow (like SSH keypress turnaround > 1 sec). I intended to try again after my holidays – so now I am here, but the VPS is unreachable (and control panel reboot does not help). Not a satisfied customer :-(

Spamhaus has blocked an entire /17 so if you’re planning to use your box as a mail server, it’s a crap shoot. Support keep saying they went emails to Spamhaus even though Spamhaus says it should come from the owner of the netblock, which is colocrossing. I’m not colocrossing’s customer, so it’s not my problem, though it seems like it’s going to have to be.
I don’t think most of their support people speak English naively so I find there may be some sort of language barrier to getting things done sometimes. You’ll find your servers rebooted with no warning at times.
So I basically have a server that’s as useful as brick since services like message boards cannot send out registration email verifications, for example.
Yes, they’re cheep, and yes, I guess I get what I pay for, but I’m thinking it’s not worth the hassle. My year is up next month so I’m probably going to relocate both of my servers if email isn’t flowing by tomorrow.
12 since I signed up, 12 days with a useless server because of a null-routed IP. No help from support.
For the record, this was escalated and finally cleared up today.
