Atlantic.Net - $0.99 256MB KVM 'Cloud VPS' & more in Orlando, Dallas, & Toronto

Atlantic.NetMarty, from Atlantic.Net, told us that they have recently added two new locations to their Cloud servers. These are Dallas, TX and Toronto, Canada. These Cloud servers are powered by SSD RAID protected drives, and you can be up in 30 seconds! Something that I find useful for dev’s who like to test out their code is their pay-as-you-go billing system, where you pay per second, an industry’s first, and only for what you use. Atlantic.Net is a private S Corporation, which has been running for 20 years. They have been listed once before, and there were a mix of responses. If you tried them, or have any comments, please leave them below.

Go

  • 256MB RAM
  • 1vCPU
  • 10GB SSD Diskspace
  • 1TB Outbound Bandwidth
  • Unmetered Inbound Bandwidth
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • $0.99/Month
  • Order Link
XSmall

  • 512MB RAM
  • 1vCPU
  • 20GB SSD Diskspace
  • 2TB Outbound Bandwidth
  • Unmetered Inbound Bandwidth
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • $4.97/Month
  • Order Link

Atlantic.Net accepts payments only from major credit cards, such as visa, master card, discover, and american express. A small list of activities that are not allowed to be run on their network includes: using the server for CDN services, running Torrents or Seed Servers, TOR, crypto currency mining/generating, IRC or IRC bots. I usually like advise potential clients, to read through Atlantic.Net’s acceptable usage policy, and their terms of service document.

The “Go” plan should be $0.99; that’s a typo.

What a useless VPS… They don’t allow anything..
Why would you invest in a VPS when every possible use is not accepted?
If you want to host a website, you can just get shared hosting.

Yeah, I’d never go with such providers – ‘Any individuals who are canceled for spamming will incur a $150.00 clean-up fee’, if anyone every used Kloxo or some other shity open source panel that constantly gets hacked this could easily happen and what, you’d have to pay 150$ ? Suck my d, no thanks bye.

So to be clear here, you intentionally run insecure code and you blame your provider for trying to protect themselves from idiots. Make sure to list your PayPal email address here so everyone knows not to take orders from you.

    • Remuz:

I don’t see anything bad in these? I do think the clean-up fee is a bit over the top but the rest seems fairly reasonable.

I prefer to stick to providers who in such case would give me my data and allow me to to move away instead of making my next bill from 1$ to 151$.

        October 17, 2014 @ 11:24 am | Reply
    • Hi,

If you get hacked, you would not incur this fee. This fee is only to prevent spammers from signing up for our service and getting our IPs blacklisted.

I just signed up for a tiny GO server in Toronto Canada.
Payment is indeed a bit unusual. Instead of pre-paying 1-12 months, Atlantic.net takes your credit card and charges your card monthly afterwards. That’s because they actually count all cost per hour your VPS is running. So some kind of pay-as-you-go.
Besides that, the whole registration process as well as the web interfaces looks very professionl to me. Private IP network for your VPS, HTML 5 KVM console, and some other neat features. My Canadian public IP is not listed on any blacklist. Just missing IPv6.

Regarding the actual VPS, here is a benchmark from freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh
Mixed network performance, but great storage.
Looks promising. Thanks Marty for this nice offer.
Great to have something different; not yet another default WHMCS/SolusVM provider.

  8. No problem. Thanks for the kind words. It is pay-as-you-go per second billing, so you literally pay month-to-month based on how long you keep your server running. We also support Linux, FreeBSD & Windows (Windows is more though :) )

We are working on IPv6, as well as more locations and more features!

I think you will benefit more from these cheap offers by adding PayPal. I am not sure why this option is not available, but well people are more reluctant when sharing credit card information than paying using PayPal. Also I wonder why you can only pay monthly and not for a whole year, I mean it’s just $11.88! Some people get charged for each transaction when using their credit card.

      October 17, 2014 @ 10:27 am | Reply
      • It is more expensive for us this way and we would make more money if we charged in advance. The reason we do it this way its true pay-as-you-go billing. This means if you run the server for 15 days you only pay 50 cents! We calculate your actual usage, then charge you at the end of the month. Our attitude is to focus the customer and customer experience; our goal is BETTER not just CHEAPER. We’re trying to make it cooler on the low end!

Too much of stress to order.

    -A Copy of your passport
    OR
-A copy of your driver’s license
    OR
-A copy of your recent credit card statement or bill with any information you do not want to release blacked out.

For a 0,99$ purchase? If it would be 50$, alright, but 0,99$?

    Do not recommend

    October 17, 2014 @ 8:40 pm | Reply
    • Its not about the $0.99, its about trying to curb abuse; this will help keep our IPs from being blacklisted. Also remember we don’t bill in advance so there is credit risk for us, and you can order much larger servers once approved.

Don’t understand why people are whining so much about paypal… It’s a convenient option, but it took me about 2 seconds to reach for my mastercard and by providing correct and complete information I didn’t have to go through any of this verification nonsense.

I’ve been using them since sometime in July. This is my first experience with a VPS and they’ve been great. Being new to this it’s incredibly helpful to be able to delete a server when I screw it up and have a fresh one in minutes. Being charged by the minute is really nice when you make a mess and don’t have time to start over. Just delete the server and come back to it in a few days without feeling like you’re wasting money running a useless server. I did manage to get a couple of GO servers up before they limited them and they’re still running. I run them as PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPNs with Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit. They seem to work fine as SSH tunnels too. Anytime I contact customer support they’ve been available quickly and have answered my questions. As for payment I had no trouble with MC. They haven’t asked for documents so I don’t know what that’s about. If you’re out of the US you could always use a friend or family member to verify.
