It’s time for another Community Roundup and this is going to be an interesting one. Lots of stuff happening and as usual, the customer doesn’t benefit.
The GreenValueHost saga continues…
Just when you thought this couldn’t get any bigger a mess than it already was, it did.
A while ago, Duke, from XFuse Solutions, acquired the GreenValueHost (let’s call this GVH v1) clients and re-branded it into TacVPS. The full details of the deal were never disclosed to the public, but everybody’s best guess is there was debt involved and that debt needed to be paid off. Either way, it seemed that customers were better off and Jonny Nguyen would quit the hosting industry. So far, so good.
Jonny, the original “CEO” or GHV v1, did a restart with GreenValueHost (let’s call this GVH v2) and focused on Shared Hosting with 100% customer satisfaction at first. He later started offering Xen VPS as well. Needless to say, this was against every promise he made when he “sold” GVH v1 to Duke and opened a new can of worms. A can of worms that could only end in…
… yet another acquisition! Thomas Dale (former owner of UGVPS) and his company called ‘Hostress’ acquired GVH v2 offering them a better future and giving Jonny a (hopefully) final exit out of the hosting industry. The story doesn’t end here, though, because only minutes/hours/days later, it turns out that Hostress had also acquired GVH v1 (now named TacVPS) from Duke. So, the situation right now should be as follows: all active GreenValueHost clients (regardless of which version or attempt) should now be at Hostress and Thomas is looking at fixing the entire operation. Hopefully that will finally get the customer some stable services.
Story to be continued in the future! I should have several machines at Hostress so I’ll be sure you get back to you within one or two months to share how things are going.
ChicagoVPS acquires BlueVM
While this happened a while ago, and ChicagoVPS’ Chris had already mentioned this on LowEndTalk once, the official announcement only came last week. ChicagoVPS has purchased BlueVM and is migrating all clients away from slabbed hardware onto better machines. Needless to say that during the past couple of months BlueVM was performing absolutely horrendously and their support was beyond bad. While I have some faith in it getting better, a recent support ticket didn’t yet show much improvement though it’s still being worked on. It seems like ChicagoVPS has a long way to go with fixing BlueVM and there’s some serious obstacles down the road, mainly because of the state BlueVM was in. I count on the community to keep us informed; if you do, though, please share your ticket number or anything else that can help BlueVM identify you as a client in order to fix things. I’ll keep you updated on this as well and will report back in the next Community Roundup!
New hosts
As usual, here’s the new hosts we’ve featured last month:
Welcome to the club!
That’s it again for this time. As always, feel free to send a PM to @CommunityRoundup if there’s anything you’d like to share!
- How to Rapidly Install Java, OpenJDK & Oracle JDK on your VPS - December 14, 2015
- It’s been a great ride - December 14, 2015
- Cheap Windows VPS – $21/quarter 1GB KVM-based Windows VPS in 11 worldwide locations - November 30, 2015
This is so entertaining, i look forward to the movie.
I think SciFi picked up the rights
I am still waiting on the community Q1 top hosting provider vote for 2015………
After just a week of the acquisition of GVHv1 made by Hostress, i have completely lost 2 vps. Thomas said data corruption. No chances to recover anything. =]
I lost two vps on GVH/TacVPS/Hostress on June 28, and I’m *still waiting* to get one of them configured right.. Things like having part of their WHM webpage down for more than two days, with me reporting it via ticket several times, getting tun/tap turned on, taking several goarounds ticketwise, still waiting for reverse dns to be *correctly* configured.. Plus they changed the ip and didn’t bother to mention it in the info email.. Sure wish I hadn’t paid for a year with GVH.. Believe it or not, I think I liked GVH better than Hostress, if thats even possible…
I believe Thomas will sort out all these things (he rule the free weekly backups now). I believe he won’t screw up! Good luck! :)))
Sure the heck HOPE so… Sure glad I had good backups for my two lost vps…
We do have weekly backups running on all the VPS nodes now. I do apologize about what happened and will ensure if there is data loss in the future we will have backups.
Someone with intimate knowledge of GVHv2 nuked the nodes. This was planned fraud/retribution. Duke showed his colours on Lowendchat after CVPS Chris broke the news of a hack that he should not have known about…but then Fran educated a few on just how incestuous the “industry” is after cleaning the scene. I’m being very, very kind, while only repeating public information available on LET and elsewhere.
Is this a guess or is there evidence you’re in possession of regarding this sabatage?? If its true, whoEVER did it needs an orange jumpsuit and some time in a cage….
I hope in the new managemant more stable and responsible.
keep up the good work guys !!!
By far, this is the worst company I have ever done business. This company will never see my money again.
Hostress.net (Thomas Dale), another Jonathan Nguyen, a virus of Hosting Industry.
Who stole my $200 (hard earned money) for so called managed dedicated server (E3 1240v3), but never deliver server, even not got a single response after the payment (18 days).
His remote staffs have also tired to copy paste ready made answer “forwarding to concerned department”.
So, be aware from this Virus, he will give you any attractive deals which he will never deliver to you.
Having a similar problem with Hostress. My hosting got suspended completely randomly and I have a open support ticket (since the 3rd of July) and I’ve been getting the same generic messages from around 3 staff members.
Rest assured you’re not the only one having problems with them, but I do feel sorry for you. Hopefully our issues can be sorted.
Please PM me your ticket number and i will help you with your issue.
Sent you a PM over on LET with my ticket number. Any ETA?
Two VPS servers offline and the status of my KVM isn’t even displayed, let alone available to use.
Support tickets take a day or two for a response and do not result in service restoration. Usually, “it’s fixed now,” when it isn’t, or request for more information. Or, even worse, no response for several days followed by notice that ticket has been closed for lack of activity. Foot dragging and chain jerking.
