I just tried HostMem and after registering account, HostMem showed that $9.99 deal is all sold out. Probably need to update the page so that people does not have to create account just to see that the deal is sold out.

  5. Had the pleasure of trying out the RackNerd $24/y offering. 500mbps uplink, outperforms standard GCE instances @ $24/m on everything except disks, probably runs on some slow HDDs. Great offering still and can easily work around the HDD bottleneck if you need better IO. Support was also top notch, answering low prio questions in under 10 mins.

Can you explain the difference between PURE SSD RAID-10 and SSD CACHED RAID-10?

    PURE SSD RAID-10

    SSD CACHED RAID-10

    SSD CACHED RAID-10
    LEB Special 2.5GB
    https://my.racknerd.com/aff.php?aff=1922&pid=137

    • SSD cache means the primary RAID storage is using spinning HDD and using an SSD for cache.

Pure SSD is where all drives are SSD based and there are no spinning drives.

Racknerd offers the slowed network out of them all. Just use the test files in reality its way worse than others. When i use ftp to transfer files i get around 140KB/s… When asked for help on support im told its the problem with my isp… I tried other services and their test files achieve 2MB+/s

    January 11, 2022 @ 4:34 am | Reply
    • Hi Justin — Thank You for choosing RackNerd as your provider!

The good news is, all of our KVM VPS services are deployed on 1Gbps network ports. Could it be possible you may have picked a server location that is un-optimal (in terms of network routes) to your location? We offer KVM VPS’s out of a number of different locations, including but not limited to: Los Angeles, San Jose, Dallas, Chicago, New York, Ashburn, and Seattle.

Since it is a known fact that geographic proximity plays a role in internet speeds, the general rule of thumb is to pick the server location closest to the majority of your audience. Different ISP’s can also react/respond differently to network routing depending on location and peering.

Please feel free to e-mail me at dustin@racknerd.com with a bi-directional MTR, and I’d be happy to look closer into this, or perhaps look into accommodating a location change request for you if desired.

Today i was looking for other providers because your vps network speed was simply…inadequate to say the least.
Did some testing and found other good providers (not as good in price or ram or cpu but… didnt have much of a choice).
For the last time decided to check your offer here on LEB and try your test files and i was able to achieve well over 200Mbps even tho i live in Europe. I thought since i left that post, telling how slow your networks are you decided to cheat and move your servers elsewhere so that they would look good in case someone tested them.
However i was pleasantly surprised when i connected to my vps via sftp and tried to upload random 100MB file and achieved 6MB/s (thats a HUGE step up from 140KB/s and while 6MB/s is nothing to brag about for the price its SUPERB speed). Also when i tried to connect via putty it connected so fast, server became very responsive.
Also decided to do the same testing with the server in LA (i have two vps with you) and it achieved 5MB/s (which is again nothing special but for the price and compared to what it was before its SUPERB)
Did you guys found the problem ? Or is this temporary and in a few days it will be back to being sluggish ?
I am planning on hosting few decent traffic websites and it would be great if performance would stay the same i wouldnt have to look for other provider.

        January 19, 2022 @ 11:46 am | Reply
        • Hi Justin – no recent changes were made on our end as a result of your post, unless you contacted our support department directly with MTR’s and they found potential route adjustments to make?

Without looking at your account in specific, it’s really hard for me to say. If you can share with me a ticket ID or some way I can look up your account, I’d be happy to advise in further detail. Otherwise, if you haven’t contacted our support department and no changes were made on our side, then it could be possible this was a temporary ISP routing issue on your end which has since subsided or been rerouted against a different network carrier by Noction.

We’re available 24×7 if you ever need anything, feel free to reach out via a support ticket.
