BHost – £3.68 512MB OpenVZ VPS in UK

Tags: , , Date/Time: October 24, 2011 @ 3:29 am, by LowEndAdmin

BHost I was reading this article earlier today — The Reality of Budget VPS (via Hacker News), and kez not just mentioned LowEndBox.com, but also recommended some providers from his own experience. Linode, BurstNET and Bhost.net, where “it has shown itself to be the most stable and consistent”. When I was just about to blog this, Nicholas from BHost emailed me their new coupon code for November! Same 25% off recurring discount as last time but with promo code LOWENDBOXNOV. Annual payment also gets you 10% off extra discount + a free .com, .net, .org or .co.uk domain (need to submit a support ticket). “Bronze” plan is £3.68/month (excl VAT, ~USD$5.86), and it has

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Their servers are with RapidSwitch in Maidenhead UK (test IP/files), and they have been around since 2002. Bob posted some stats back in June, and they have now upgraded their storage system for a faster IO performance.

The original owner of LowEndBox known as "LowEndAdmin" or "LEA" for short founded LowEndBox in 2008 and created the concept of hosting applications on low resource "Low End Boxes". After creating the roots of the community that we know today, "LEA" stepped aside and allowed others to carry the torch forward.

does the vat still applies to non-european costumers?

  2. Thanks for the mention, LEA. Seems I got my facts a bit wrong and your criteria is under $7, not $10!

I might be tempted to pick up an extra one under this deal; great value. Let’s hope they don’t start overcrowding their boxes!

    • And what’s this about “monthly” deadpool postings? I seem to recall LEA getting off the timetable a few times. We do our best to bug him though about it.

“interesting timing” is probably “this email has been sitting in LEA’s inbox for the last two months” :P

He should be able to, since you don’t need to pay it if you’re outside the EU.

    To avoid VAT
They could manually issue an invoice without VAT once you had completed the order process, but before you had paid.

  8. Kez, do you allow public web proxies on your vps? Also, what’s the price for an additional ipv4?

    October 25, 2011 @ 3:04 am | Reply
    • If you try to put an order, you will see that can get up to 3 IPs, seems to be £1 each one

    • BHost is run by Nicholas, and Kez is the author of the blog article I linked, which recommended BHost.

  9. For those who shouldn’t pay VAT – just drop us a ticket after you sign up and we’ll arrange for a VAT refund and stop VAT being charged in the future.

You can order additional IPv4 addresses for £1 each!

Bhost are really good IMO. Good value for money and I can’t see any signs of overcrowding on the nodes as the network seems good and so does the disk writes. And they are a registered company which you don’t often see lately!

They could do with having VPS backup system though

    • We hear you! We’re working on a backup solution and hope to launch it soon.
