LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BlueVM - 4 anniversary offers starting at $12.99/year in six locations across the USA

BlueVMBlueVM celebreate their 3rd anniversary today, for which Justin has sent in four special anniversary offers. These offers are exclusive to LowEndBox.com and all feature their own panel: Feathur. Feathur is an Open Source (AGPL V3.0) control panel for OpenVZ and KVM and is available on GitHub. BlueVM Communications LLC are based in Honolulu and are dedicated to offering “low cost, high quality Virtual Private Servers (VPS)”. We have featured BlueVM quite some times since early 2012 and reviews have been mainly positive. After they had enough of SolusVM after numerous security incidents, BlueVM decided to write their own panel. Feathur is the result of that. It’s already in use at BlueVM (and has been for a while) but it is also available to the public and I believe other providers have started using it as well. Their hardware primarily consists of Intel E3-1240 servers (@ 3.4GHz) with 32 GB of RAM and 4 x 1TB or 2TB hard drives in RAID10. A review of their service (which includes Feathur screenshots & serverbear link) can be found here. And on behalf of LowEndBox: congratulations with three years in business!

BlueVM accept PayPal, Google Checkout and Bitcoin via Bitpay. Due to abuse of their previous refund policy, they no longer offer refunds on their services except in special cases. They provide a 99.99% uptime guarantee and provide service credits if they fail to meet this. According to their website, they undersell (typically they leave 500GB of HDD space free and 2-4GB of ram free). For more information, have a read of their Terms of Service.

Is there a coupon code or something for this? The prices on their website are all higher than what’s listed and there’s no KVM plan either.

Yes, I’m pretty happy. They suspended my servers because they were sending out more than 5 SMTP connections at a time. Once they verified with me that I wasn’t sending Spam I was whitelisted. Every now and then there is a service issue, but it’s not a problem with the way I have things setup. For the month I have 100% uptime on one of my servers and 99.35% on the other.

  10. The problem with BlueVM is that on some nodes TUN/TAP is auto-disabled almost daily. My question is when you will resolve that? I’ve submitted over 20 tickets over the time for the same problem and each time they say is fixed and each time it keeps happening again.

I can only speak regarding my experience with their Dallas location …. but the service is god awful. https://imgur.com/0wzT8yT

Stay away from their Dallas location. Downtime and inaccessibility just about every other day. In some cases I couldn’t even reach the VPS for days at a time, and when I opened an “urgent” (yeah right) support ticket they’d get back to me days later saying “looks fine now” ….gee, thanks.

You get what you pay for — avoid BlueVM and just use DigitalOcean, Linode, or Vultr.

  14. Carlo:

I’ve had BlueVM for the past year and I would stay away. They would randomly suspend accounts due to what they call “spamming”. I only had my personal site along with a disabled RTMP server installed on my VPS. No SMTP service running yet that was “standard” the excuse they gave. When I inquired about the issue, I got a standard reply two weeks later after which they reactivated my account only to be disabled again a few weeks after that. No help as to what was really causing the account to become suspended to prevent any future issues. Not worth it in my opinion.

I’ve got several Blue4’s (I think 4 of them) a Blue 3 and a Blu0.5 with them and overall I’m satisfied. The only thing I would wish they’d improve (and the main reason I’ve stopped buying) is that ticket responses can take 2 or 3 days and even then the response may be just a “This is now fixed” or “We restarted the node.”

Overall, uptime is good at most locations but sometimes sh*t can go down at some locations and as tickets take a long time to fix you have to just wait. For their low low price I think BlueVM are cool. If they got their ticket response act together I’d have no problems recommending them.

    • bunga:

you can get a VPS from a quality host with higher uptime and quicker ticket response time by paying $1-2 more per year, so it’s worth paying that $1-2 for the support. INIZ 256MB plan is around $14 vs BlueVM $13. So $1 buys you better support.

I’m tempted, but support is so slow that I’d hesitate to put anything critical on these boxes. They have pretty good service/price/etc., but when something goes down, you’re typically kept out-of-the-loop, and tickets aren’t replied to promptly enough. They could definitely be a top provider if this improved.

Also why have you got rid of the old uptime status script that showed the uptime in days. It was useful to look at the node uptime.

    For others:
Initially I started to test bluevm w/ a shared hosting account May 2013. After having minimal downtime and issues for a personal blog, I upgraded to a reseller plan in January 2014 with help from BlueVM’s owner,Justin Johnston – Owner / Senior Administrator (w/ issues).

BlueVM restored my account and asked me to email them directly if i had any more issues. Also stated that this issue should have been resolved earlier. I received an invoice for the next year’s service and was recorded as paid.

The service is what i need, the support had not been there. Each time i have an issue, the resolution takes time. Again, I have not had a single issue with their service.

Okay the hosting was activated. But remember that activation is NOT instant with them, you have to wait a freakin day or maybe more for them to even notice your order.

Now lets see how the service actually is.

DO you really need instant gratification. Waiting 24 hours is not going to kill you.

      May 18, 2014 @ 12:41 pm | Reply
      • TeeDev:

Sometimes you need a server quickly, maybe to replace another one or something, so instant activation really should mean instant. And there are cases where 24hours can be the difference between looking reliable to your client and looking like you can’t keep your word.

        May 19, 2014 @ 3:35 am | Reply
        • steyn:

I needed the server at that moment not a day later because i was testing something for my client. I ended up buying from digitalocean too and got the server from bluehost a day later. I don’t mind waiting but sometimes you need it instantly and a small note that says “hey there is not going to be instant activation” would have been very helpful. As you can read other people also complain of their slow support so i am not the only one.

As for their service, i am actually pleased with it. So i can definitely recommend them ignoring the delay in activation.

SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Ever since I have been with them (last August), I have been having problems.
My VPS is most of the time unreachable (most of the times I try to connect) and I have to submit tickets to get it working again. They moved me to Buffalo and after some time problems started again. They supposedly resolved the issues, but NOT! Same problem. My VPS is basically idle all the time, it does not have anything install besides a basic rtmpdump, and running occasionally rtmpdump and cgi script for parsing text pages. So basically giving my VPS 0.000001% usage of resources.

My guess is they oversubscribe so much their nodes that it is not bearable, or allow gaming sites or something that block all resources. Or maybe they are simply inept ad don’t know how to properly run nodes.

Get a decent VPS form people like ChicagoVPS. BlueVM is just waste of money and time, and it will cause you extreme aggravation. Mark my words.

When I contacted support asking for a refund due to downtime, they simply sent back “thanks for your feedback.”

    This company is a scam.

My VPS has 99.66% uptime according to NodeQuery over the last 127 days.

    Guess I’m lucky ^^

It is worth noting that even your “lucky” results are below their guaranteed uptime

Stay away from BlueVM at all costs. My VPS there is totally unreliable. Lots of downtime. When it is running, it’s super slow.

Bought a server about almost a month from now, in the beginning it was horrible, couldn’t connect to SSH or anything, put up a ticket and it took around a week and a half to fix my problem. After that my VPS is now up and running without going down or anything.

Basically, the service is great, but the support is just horrid, it could take days, maybe even a week for them to answer your ticket, if your up for the wait.
