Servers in Chicago with ColoCrossing (where LowEndTalk is currently hosted but with eNetSouth). Test site for download/traceroute tests. ChicagoVPS has now been around for > a year. As for the 1GB VPS offer it’s actually the same as last time. I believe that there is no burstable memory, but still pretty good value.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.

I might as well comment on this…
My experience with ChicagoVPS has been a bit up and down. I bought an instance when they had their last special. Long story short, VPS was horrible for 3 weeks (technical problems, etc).
However once I got put onto my current node, everything has been running perfectly. I’ve actually bought another instance on the same node. All that I can hope for is that this node isn’t where all the new guys are going 🙂
Here are some tests for people:
Adam,
I am glad we changed your mind, and yes I will admit last month was a disaster with that node. Failed hard drives, multiple abusers, etc. Long story short it was a nightmare.
Since then moving everyone off to a separate node everything has been perfect like you said. You current node is at capacity and we will not be adding any more to the current node your on.
Regards,
Chris
I wanna get a VPS and as I see you got very nice prices..I picked the 1G ram 30Gb package..but is there any chance for a custom package with some more hdd space? I’ll be online tonight, cuz I want get a vps and migrate my data tonight.
Thanks.
And btw, manage.chicagovps.net is down 🙂
I thought this VPS would be a bit iffy because of the price, $6.50 is a good deal, but it has been rock solid since I have had it.
Would highly recommend.
I have 2 vps with them. You can traceroute on my site just to be sure that I’m hosted with them. It had been rock solid. Found them through LEB, really awesome. 🙂
Though does this one have burst/swap?
i have 2 vpses with chris. i am happy with their service. almost no downtime.
pls enable tuntap on my vps. check ur support ticket. im waiting asap
Bee,
Obviously this is not the place to request this. Looking at the date it should already have been done.
Thanks,
Jeremiah

Happy birthday Jeremiah.. me too.. 😀
Well Happy Birthday to you as well! 🙂
Happy Birthday to you 🙂
🙂 Thanks!
Okay. Your birthday in August and Chris’ in April. Any other employee and what are their birthdays? Maybe can list all of them here so those who are interested in specials in ChicagoVPS can know when the sales might be 🙂
I see where you are going with this LEA. At this point, none that they want us to share, but we will keep this in mind! 🙂
Jeremiah and the rest of the team is very very awesome! Great surprise awaits once you email this guy. Awesome provider, my 3rd VPS with them already. Yay!
do you offer DirectAdmin by any chance?
You can install Direct Admin yourself after they activate you. It is pretty easy but you’ll have to ssh in first with something like putty.
I moved to them from enetsouth or enscloud and I must say that its great. I tried several times with ens to get them to correct my rDNS email issue which would rDNS back to host.colocrossing.com. They closed both my tickets without resolving or replying.
ChicagoVPS had my support ticket answered and rDNS up before I even finished transferring my site. On top of that I get 1GB of ram(although no swap space ability) for less than I was paying for 400mb(granted I was getting 10mbs unmetered). My vps works flawlessly now, I won’t go into all the issues I had with ens because I’m sorta nubish in some areas and may have made my own mistakes at times(one of those was believing that I had control over rDNS and wasn’t doing it right).
Looking for a budget vps that just works? Look no further.
Hello,
Is this promo for only one month?
Hello,
It goes until our next post.
Regards,
Chris
I got a 512MB Xen server from these guys to use as a game server and all i can say is that the quality of theseservers are simply excellent. There is no stuttering and the connection is solid. Keep up the good work.
Jeff,
I am glad that you are happy with it 🙂
Thanks!
Jeremiah
