    • Hi,
We have more than 1 server for sure, we have a “full rack” at Quadranet in LA and our own networking equipment as well. We just ran out of IPs since many people went in for the VPS-256 plan ($17/year plan), I’ve already requested the DC for IPs and will be surely adding stock in a few hours.

All clients from this sale are being provisioned on our latest node at the moment which has Dual L5520 CPU/72 GB RAM/4 x 1 TB HDD in HW RAID10.

      • Deeeebs:

You do know that those L5520 processors only support up to 1066Mhz memory and not the full 1333Mhz of your memory? Or are you overclocking your memory in your systems?

        1. There’s no “Crazy Oversell”, these servers have 72 GB RAM by default and can be upgraded off to 144 GB RAM as well, we’ve planned this out well enough to do this plan/offer :)

        2. vSWAP can always be added, some VMs might have missed out getting them added, open a support ticket and it’ll be added right away.

      • Also, I’ve resolved off the issue and working on it further, sadly some abusers just like to mess things up a lot, had multiple people (at least 4!) who had the DD script in their cron to run every minute :/

        [root@la05 vz]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
        16384+0 records in
        16384+0 records out
        1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 10.3051 s, 104 MB/s

I am slowly going thru and getting rid of other abusers as well and it’ll be back to ~140 MB/s soon.

  52. Hi,
Just adding in a update, we’ve removed off all the abusers that we could find, and the I/O is much much better now. I’d advice client’s to not start running DD tests right away since if many do the DD test at once, it’ll give you poor results while it isn’t poor.

    [root@la05 vz]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test

      Hi,
      > hmm what do you mean buy abusers people using to much cpu?

Yes, people who use a LOT LOT of CPU and cause problems to other clients.

We do NOT suspend/terminate just like that, we first notify the client before taking any action. Unless the client is running a script which is causing a massive issue, then we go ahead and suspend the VPS and notify the client regarding this.

This node has Enterprise Seagate 1 TB HDDs (7200 RPM SATA) with a Areca RAID controller in RAID10, We’ve already order up another server with a better RAID controller which will be online later this week and will move client’s over to that so the performance improves. More info will be sent in later this week.

Please note, this I/O issue is only affecting 1 server in our LA location and NOT all servers in the US.

The site had gone down much after the node had gone down (around 3 hours after), the node was rebooted and came back up in around 2 minutes but VPSes might have longer taken time to start up. But yes, once we move over clients to the new node we won’t have these issues.

      • Hi,
We’ve had issues originating from VPSes that have got compromised running outdated panel builds of Kloxo, zPanel etc and issues with abusers, just like any other host does, but we take care of these as soon as we detect them off, there’s nothing much we can do when there’s an incoming attack, apart from wait for the DC to null out the IP being attacked, but for an outgoing attack we detect off most scripts and kill them, regarding the uptime output/stability, we’ve done a kernel upgrade to the latest OpenVZ kernel which has a good load of fixes (you can check this on OpenVZs website) and the node has been pretty stable after that, if your VPS still feels slow, put in a ticket and we’ll have a look into it.

Truly sorry for the troubles you’ve faced, please put in a ticket or add a reply to an existing ticket and we’ll look further into it.

        Thanks.

Hello there. I still having a hard time believing this exists. It seems very good to be true. Just to understand better you just give a server that we have to do all the setting up on? For instance if I wanted to get the 4gb ram plan with a few cpu cores…is it actually what you claim? The reason I ask is because I want to move my minecraft server to this hosting plan instead of the one I am using. So if we are allowed to use your server for games I am thinking there should be no problem. My server often goes over the ram it needs so I am not sure if it will affect people on other nodes. I am sure there is a way to detect if java is trying to allocate more ram and prevent it from reaching the limit. I run a custom minecraft modpack with 142 mods that is quite unstable…so java sometimes crashes and is unstable. I am fine with setting up the linux server myself…but will I have to do my own port forwarding or is everything already open? Just curious if running a minecraft server that has a public ip address is possible here.

      • Hey,
Sorry for the delay in reply,

        > Just to understand better you just give a server that we have to do all the setting up on?

Yes, You’ll get full root access via SSH and you can setup the VPS as needed.

        > For instance if I wanted to get the 4gb ram plan with a few cpu cores…is it actually what you claim?

Sure, if you need a custom plan we can do that.

        > I am fine with setting up the linux server myself…but will I have to do my own port forwarding or is everything already open?

All ports are open and can be used as needed, you can open/close ports as needed.

Drop us an email at support@crowncloud.net if you need a custom plan :)

It is too good to be true. I have had the 3GB plan for 6 months and have been subjected to sluggishness throughout. I am unable to do any sort of development as there seems to always be ddos attacks (per the response from crown cloud) on the nodes even though they have moved me twice.

I have vps accounts with other hosts for $3 – $7 per month and they dont have the amount of sluggishness in a year that crown cloud has in a a day.

          echo ($CrownCloud == ‘Dont use’) ? ‘Dont waste your money on crown cloud.’: ‘Trust me, dont waste your money on crown cloud.’;

          • Hi Howard,
Yes, we did have an issue at the beginning, but after moving users to better hardware we haven’t faced many apart from when a user’s box gets compromised on the node causing an array of issues depending on how bad that VM was compromised. While we do advise users to use better secure alternatives to what’s available a few users tend to use what they’re most comfortable with like Kloxo which isn’t the most secure panel out there, and when they do get compromised they tend to cause a lot of issues.

We do work to make things better like the Gigabit upgrade we’ll be doing in Los Angeles later this week (http://status.crowncloud.net/discussion/71/lax-gbit-upgrade#latest) after which we plan to roll out a few more features for client’s as well.

I’m sorry if you had a bad time with us, please put in a ticket and we’ll help you out to our best possible.

    Is there any anti-ddos protection?

    • Not really, We null the IP being attacked until the DDoS settles if there’s a DDoS :)

    • Hi,
We did deliver what you asked for, there were delays in between when the datacenter ran out/was short of IPs and we had to get you IPs from elsewhere and get it announced at the datacenter which takes 1 – 3 days minimum since all the upstreams need to announce the block/accept it. We did credit you back the time you lost during the wait on each of your servers irrespective of weather they were affected by this wait or not (at this time, you had 2 servers running perfectly fine) after this a server which you rented out had one of the HDDs fail which we got replaced and again credited back the time, we’ve done it all possible from our end to keep things as smooth as possible including setting up a DHCP server on each machine so that your VMs can get IPs assigned to them easily. Really sorry this did not work out, perhaps another host from LEB can accommodate you without any issues or bumps along the way.

    • Hi,
I did reply to your ticket earlier today as well, the issue behind the low DD was the CPU frequency which seems to have been set low on your VPS, which I corrected as well. This issue has been corrected/resolved completely. I don’t know what was the need to post here when the issue has been resolved off, either ways, I’ve re-ran the tests just now,

I started well with them, they were helpful and polite (without being creepy). One of my packages on a node in LA06 froze. By froze I mean apt-get update could not complete in 12 hours. The response was astonishing. It was very passive aggressive with no name ever given and 2 days waiting time (as was not usual in the past), and the guy did nothing about the technical issue. He could have tried to see the issue himself. But he just wanted to make smart remarks which were not smart anywhere else but in his mind.
I am disappointed. I thought they were okay, but I wonder whether after a certain time unless you use no RAM, they will make it impossible for you so you leave and then they can replace you with the next sap.

    Have a nice day.

    • Hey Egg,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused, could you please bump up the ticket and ask it to be referenced/passed to “SpeedBus” and I’ll have this looked into right away and have it all fixed up.

There were some issues with IPv6 earlier this week while were waiting on our new Juniper to come in which could have affected apt-get if it was trying to go through only IPv6/defaulting to IPv6, but to be completely sure, please do bump the ticket and ask it to be passed/assigned to “SpeedBus” and I’ll have this looked into and make sure something like this never happens again.

I tried to contact crowncloud.net (speedbus and support), but haven’t received a reponse from either mail adresses, although I contacted them more than a week ago.

Also, I cannot ping the test IP listed at the top nor can I downlaod the 100mb test file.

    Is crowncloud out of business?

Was really looking forward to their VPS-3072-Yearly deal, preferably in Germany, if any was in stock (which was why I contacted them about, in the first place)…

Their website is up and everything seems in order, apart from the IP listed in this thread and the email support…

Been trying to contact CrownCloud via email (speedbus and support) more than a week ago and haven’t heard anything back. Also, I cannot ping the test IP listed ast the top of this thread or download the listed test file. Which made me wonder…is CrownCloud out of business, having mail server problems or suddenly slow to repond on support? It seems form this thread that they normally would respond much sooner. If they are in trouble, it is too bad – I was looking forward to a VPS-3072-Yearly deal, preferably in Germany if in stock.

Anyone been in contact with CrownCloud this week – or knows if everything is as usual, besides seemingly slow-responding support via email?

    • Apologies for the lack of response, could you please forward me a copy of the mail and I’ll have a look at speedbus[@]crowncloud.net (remove the []’s) and get back to you right away.

      Thanks!

      • Frank:

Found a way to get in touch with CrownCloud/SpeedBus at the IRC (http://crowncloud.net/contact.php). Very nice and helpful. Prompt and professional answers on IRC. Ordered the 3072 VPS and got setup instantly in LA after the payment went through. Experiencing slow I/O ~40MB/s so far, but have contacted support just now to inquire about it, as it seems the expected I/O should be around 125-235MB/s, judging from this thread.

Anyway, everything looks great otherwise and I’m a happy new customer at CrownCloud. Now I’m waiting for stock in Germany to become available in the next few weeks, so my VPS can be reprovisioned there, as SpeedBus gave me a test IP that shows ping of ~20ms in Germany, compared to 183ms to LA from my location in Europe. So far – great service. Thanks, SpeedBus.
