KiloServe - $36.50/Year + $2.99 Setup 365MB Xen/OpenVZ VPS in Los Angeles

KiloServe KiloServe sent me their current promotion, which you can also see on WHT. The offer is as tacky as its name. “365 Special – Xen or OpenVZ”, and it’s just 10 cents per day, although you have to pay annually ($36.50/year) and it does come with a $2.99 once off setup fee. Two types of virtualization to choose from, and here are the sign up links for Xen “BBXEN365” and for OpenVZ “BBVZ365”. They come with

  • 365MB memory (+128MB swap for Xen, or 493MB burstable memory for OpenVZ)
  • 15GB storage on 12 disks RAID10
  • 365GB/month data transfer
  • 4 vCPU fair share
  • Xen/OpenVZ + SolusVM

Their KVM365 plan should also come up next week for those who would want to use FreeBSD or Windows. Payment in either credit card, PayPal, Liberty Reserve, Moneybookers or AlertPay. Servers in Los Angeles/Pomona CA with iMountain (test IP: 74.62.152.52). Check out their previous post here for some benchmark and it looks like they got some pretty nice performance in disk IO. Their domain has been registered for 4+ years.

  1. I think you mean $36.50 per year, not $36.50 per month.

  2. Thanks for pointing that out Nick, it is indeed $36.50/Year (as stated correctly in the title but wrong in the text body).

We aimed the pricing at 365 days, you pay slightly less in a leap year :)

    • I think you may want to stop.. Take 30 seconds to validate the things your about to say and then realise there are better ways of saying things than shouting SCAM, and calling a tiny amount of money a hefty fee.

Do you really think there is such thing as “hefty YEARLY” especially when it’s a VERY LOW, budget, yearly fee! You just forgot that these 36.5 will make you not pay anymore for a whole year to come! I guess you haven’t paid annually for such online services previously ;)

@offer: I guess that is truly a great value for the money for the XEN one!

    • Thank you for your support Gentlemen.

We have been in this business for a long time. We are not perfect but we are not scammers either.

We have sold $1 VPS that looks like it may be a scam but the fact is it is for publicity.

Even though we lose money on a $1 VPS on a 48 core node, it is worth its value because now many people at WHT know that we offer 48 core VPS nodes that very few (if any other companies) offer.

We don’t make much on a $36.50 a year Xen but if more people know that we provide fast and high quality servers, it will bring us regular business on 1GB or 4GB Xen servers.

No need to scam on $36.50 when even a few hundred plans like these won’t even pay for 1 of our 48 core nodes.

We’ll have a nice LowEndBox exclusive special for our 5 year anniversary (in a couple of months) to thank you all for your support and kind words. The special, hopefully, won’t be “tacky” :P

Heheh, the old site was ugly, we know :)

The $1 VPS was a “scam” hahah…no not really but it was too low priced that we couldn’t sell too many of them.

As you probably know, 48 Core servers with 128GB RAM are quite expensive and we own all of our equipment so we can’t really sell too many at that cheap price.

Thank you for the kind thoughts and interest in our KVM virtualzation for Windows and FreeBSD support.

We are still working on our KVM deployment, we want to ensure that the performance matches our XenPV service.

We will be running KVM swap off SSD drives to ensure maximum speed. As with our OpenVZ and XenPV servers, RAID 10 on 12 drives will be utilized to ensure disk I/O is in line with our “High Disk I/O” as promised.

The KVM Nodes will run off 24 cores (12 physical, 12 hyperthreaded)

Yes, all three plans were supposed to be triplets or as close to identical based on 365.

      365MB RAM
      365GB Transfer
      365 Days
      $36.50

We held off on the deployment of the KVM plans so we could implement the new KVM changes in SolusVM 1.8

  11. Thank you for the great response to the 365 Special. We have sold out on our first Xen node.

If you placed an order for a Xen server, please wait for us to complete deployment of another Xen Node. We should be finished setting up this node within the next few hours and will activate your orders then.

    • Greetings Adam

Windows will not work on XenPV. Windows will only work on Xen HVM or KVM.

We have been holding off on the announcement of our KVM plans as another fine provider has recently had some Extremely nice KVM deals. Please see this posting here for a very nice KVM VPS which we purchased as well. I can tell you that my KVM VPS from them is very impressive:
      http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/384/enetsouth-birmingham-wicked-fast-io-kvm-768mb-2gb40gb1000gb-openvz-huge-deals#Item_24

When there’s a lull in some good deals here at LEB, we’ll provide a nice KVM deal for you if you have not already found one.

Thank you as always for your interest in our services.

Though the specs of the enetsouth KVM offer is good, its not at all reliable and is evident from the comments given there and in their lowendbox offer. At the end of the day reliability is more important than the specs. I have purchased Kiloserve’s xen 365 plan as well enetsouth’s kvm plan and I have to admit that I’m impressed with Kiloserve’s xen. Though I did not get a chance to log a support ticket yet and I hope that when I get to that situation, I’m hoping it won’t be like enetsouth’s support where I end up with my VPS down for 2 days and there is no reponse/update for tickets and no notification if there is an issue.

      • Hello KiloServe,
        Yes, I am not Adam.
        :)
About the VPS, I am not very good in VPS, specially LINUX ones. Like I post here some times, I had a bad experience in an unmanaged CentOs VPS, because all tutorials I used in the machine, only in my Egipt VPS did not work. So, in fact I could not LEARN how to use Linux to provide my domains. After this I think to stay not very near LINUX VPS.

About KVM (like I am a newbie in Virtualization area.. I am an analist, not network specialist) I went to google to know more about (I only work with VmWare in my desktop machine):

        http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Main_Page
“Using KVM, one can run multiple virtual machines running unmodified Linux or Windows images. Each virtual machine has private virtualized hardware: a network card, disk, graphics adapter, etc.

The kernel component of KVM is included in mainline Linux, as of 2.6.20.

        KVM is open source software.”

In my newbie experience, I thought only XEN and VmWare could use Windows. It is good to know that there is another OPEN SOURCE possibility.
One more learn, today. Thank you!
        ####

I have one DOUBT about XEN and KVM X OpenVZ
        KVM 768MB
        OpenVZ 2.0GB

Same storage and transfer data, same PRICE, why ONE HAS 768 and the other 2.0GB RAM?

Usually linux ones have more RAM than windows ones. Why does this happen?

Thank you again for your link and to be honest about another offer. :)

Other than that, I have a life outside of KiloServe and like to remain anonymous. We have made it almost to 5 years with whois protection.

We have a clear conscience of never screwing over any clients. We have a no refund policy on paper but have always bent it whenever it was the right thing to do.

I’m able to enjoy my life while providing an excellent VPS service. While I understand the privacy may turn off some clients, my personal freedoms are just as important. Almost 5 years in business can tell you more than any whois lookup ever will.

We thank all of our clients who have stayed with us; we thank all the providers who have provided us a business without knowing who we are. We know the meaning of gratitude and thank all who have made it possible for us for staying in business all these years without even knowing my name.

      • Hi David

For VPN, the easiest is Xen and KVM.

The easiest to wipe and start over is Xen and OpenVZ. KVM is slower to start over because it’s almsot like a real PC, you have to install it manually. At the same time, KVM gives you more flexibility since you can set whatever OS options you want as you install the system.

        • In XenPV and OpenVZ, you just press the “REINSTALL” button and 5 minutes later the VPS is back to where it was when you first got it.

    • Hi Asim

The KVM 365 offer posted above is the only KVM offer that is within LEB guidelines. If you need a larger plan, please contact us.

Thankyou for your interest in our services :)

Looks like OVZ and KVM are in stock still. This seems like a heck of a deal. Is it possible to buy more disk space? Some kind of lower performance storage plan would be fine.

Does “fair share” cpu mean that it’s ok to actually use all the cycles that the scheduler will give me, nonstop?

    Thanks.

Just made an order aswell and using the coupon code was just great.

Hopefully i will see some quality service here with 0 downtime as soon as the server is activated and i’ll bring some other clients for sure

  32. Ordered last night a XenPV via Lucky7. Ran a quick dd and man i’m blazed. My fastest VPS had ~80MB/s
This is from the new machine

    [root@vps4 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k && rm -rf test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 5.24538 s, 205 MB/s

    [root@vps4 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync && rm -rf test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 5.94016 s, 181 MB/s

    Keep up the good work.

Couple complaints: almost all the images include LAMP, sometimes even when they don’t say so (pretty sure about this). And there is a minimal CentOS install that doesn’t work at all. Also, backups don’t work. You can hit “Central Backup” and click “Backup”, it will queue a backup, but if you go back later it will say “failed”.

Support was helpful quick to reply, though.

Should also add, for some reason I could not install ZPanel on the working, minimal CentOS version. Did not go digging for the problem, but it just did not work following the official tutorial.

Another issue, could not use FTP from the command line to upload to my NAS for backup. Not sure if it’s Kiloserve or me.
