LiquidHost - OpenVZ and KVM Anniversary Specials in Seattle and Dallas

Alexander, from LiquidHost, is celebrating an overall successful first year in business after launching LiquidHost in August 2011. To celebrate this occasion, LiquidHost has sent not one or two specials, but 7!

Level 0 Anniversary VPS KVM

  • 200 GB Bandwidth
  • 1 Core
  • KVM / SolusVM

Liquid Host’s only previous post was in December 2011 when they received quite a hostile reception criticising them for a variety of reason but most notably for advertising on HackForums. Alex, who is now a regular contributor to LowEndTalk, admits mistakes were made but assures us he has learnt a lot since the last listing: “I have listened to all the criticism I received and I tried to change it. No one actually expected us to last this long, which was an extra motivation for me. During the past year, we have learned from our mistakes and improved the quality of the services with the help of this community. Also, we have moved far away from hackforums and I do not want to be related in any way with them anymore, it was one of the biggest mistakes I made.”

Just a little correction – the DNS services are not out yet, I am looking in to getting them finished the following week.

It could be good to get some HTTPS on the management panel :-)

How long does it take between the VPS information is sent and I’m able to login to the panel?

    • Alexander Barakov:

      Hello Martin,
I will indeed install SSL cert on the management page. Will get it done today.

About the other thing – once you receive the information, you should be able to log into the solusVM panel.

can you somehow post a ping speed to Japan and Korea?

        August 30, 2012 @ 1:48 pm | Reply
        • Alexander Barakov:

          According to just-ping:
          http://i.imgur.com/31xeS.png
The average ping to Japan is 131.6 from our Seattle nodes, which are more suitable for Asia.
They do not have Korea location, so I can not provide ping test from / to there.

I understand the client area is already under HTTPS, sorry for the confusion on the sentence. I’m more referring to the SolusVM Control Panel to be under HTTPS as well. Thanks.

No, they are not at this point, ipv6 is not enabled at Texas. We will be rolling ipv6 on the KVM’s in a week. I can notify you once it is done if you wish? HE tunnel can be used at this point though.

As long as you have windows license you can get any version you’d like on our KVM VPS. Currently the only ISO added is Windows 2k8 server R2, however we can add other versions as well on request.

It can be uploaded. A ticket would need to be opened for it though. It would be the best if you could provide us with a link to the ISO itself, so we can upload it for you.

I got a bad routing from Germany, Tinet seems to be a problem for me. Even my servers in germany have a really high ping due to this route.
I’d really love to own a KVM box, but i guess it is not possible to change the routing?

    August 30, 2012 @ 3:18 pm | Reply
    • Alexander Barakov:

Unfortunetely not, we can not change the route.

      August 30, 2012 @ 3:18 pm | Reply
      • Shigawire:

Sure, thought about that. Any chance it will change in future? Or is there anything like a weathermap to see if their routers are currently overloaded?

        August 30, 2012 @ 3:22 pm | Reply
        • Alexander Barakov:

I am not absolutely sure what exactly do you mean. However as you meantioned that even connection to german servers is not great, there is simply no way to get a better connection to a central-based US node. We plan in rolling out some EU nodes by the end of the year, but not in Germany.

Yep was restored the day after the notification was sent out. Not a huge deal for me, didn’t have too much setup on it and I realize these things happen. The vps is fast though:). Alex, any chance solusvm will have a way to make a backup image of the vm? Or should I just make a tar of the entire directory structure?

    Hello,

What operating systems do you provide on the unmanaged OpenVZ plans?

    Thank you.

You can use any openvz compatible OS. Generally all the Linux OS.

Kind of amused that it’s saying “-1 Available” for the Level 0 and 3 KVM right now.

Any ETA on when it’ll be restocked?

Well, we had a little bit of space and I squeezed in there a couple of LET users. The ETA for the KVMs has passed nearly 1 week ago. Unfortunetely, my DC has screwed up in delivering hardware and I actually have no idea on when they will deliver the promised things, so I can restock another pile of 30-35 KVM’s. The previous 35 have sold out in under 24 hours.

I see. Is there any way to be notified by email when you do get new stock? Or is sending a message to the sales team with the form on your site sufficient?

Do you have a test file for seatle? Would like to confirm the speed from home to vps before purchasing a year.

I just wanted to say “good job” to Alexander. He’s done a good job hitting a level of success that should keep LiquidHost’s name around a bit, and he’s managed to smooth over his early bumpy start well enough that the comments on this anniversary special have nothing negative to say. (Routing issues are a sad fact of life; you can’t ever get good routing to everywhere. So I can’t count those. :) )

I almost ordered an Anniversary VPS just to show my support. However, they were all sold out! All seven of the offers! Way to go! :)

Here’s wishing you many more years of prosperity!

      Thanks Matt!

We’ve ran out of stocka couple of tiems during this sale, I’ve restocked a couple of OVZ deals now and I can probably sell 2-3 of the KVM deals via tickets or LET PM.

Stay tuned, a huge load of updates are prepared for the next month’s promotion :)

  37. I have a question:

    Hi,

I have a question about Level 3 plan. If I customized it to this how much will you charge me yearly?

    2048MB Ram
    3072MB Burstable RAM
    40 GB Disk Space
    600 GB Bandwidth
    OpenVZ / SolusVM
    1 x IPv4
    Seattle, Washington

Everything is the same except the dedicated and burstable ram. Waiting for your response.

      • I have a question:

        Hi,

I have a question. What happen if your client website is under DDOS attack? Would you suspend his/her account and null route to non exist IP and allowed his/her account to back online after the attack?

or would you suspend his/her account and provide him/her with backup and tell him/her to find other host?

        Thank you

        September 23, 2012 @ 10:13 am | Reply
        • Depends which location.

The KVM Location in Dallas is with Limestonenetworks which have a flood detection in there control panel which automatically nullroutes / filters floods.

        • Alexander Barakov:

Seattle VPS get automatically nullrouted over 1gbps. We would not terminate on a single flood in any case, however if it is something that happens often, we will be forced to ask you to change hosts. Texas is generally the same, however LSN do have some filtering infornt of their servers, which does manage to clean up a good amount of the attacks in my experience, however it should in no way be taken as DDoS protected location.

It has been 12 days with no setup instructions and they have not returned emails. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

    • Hey Justin, the setup instructions would have been sent by e-mail assuming you paid for the service and it was activated properly. As for returning e-mails, support tickets are our preferred method of communication however we do have piping on our e-mail’s which should’ve generated a ticket and given you a ticket ID, can you provide your ticket ID? If not then you can submit a ticket from our clients area and we will take a look.

      Hello,

I hope this has been resolved for you. If not, please open a ticket. Also make sure you check the SPAM folder in case the emails ended in there. However, if the service indeed did not get setup on time for some reason, I will make sure you get a proper compensation!

      Hey Chiao,

I do apologise for the delay in getting to your ticket, it was initially missed by me. Alex has also been ill lately, so it’s just a bit of a co-incidence. Usually we do have instant setup once the payment has gone through. We had run out of IP’s in our Lenoir location.

Either way, your ticket has now been dealt with; we have added 5 days free to your billing term as compensation and setup your VPS.

Once again I do apologise for the delay, have a great day. :-)

      Regards,
      – Humza

  40. Phillip Gooch:

Couple questions for Alexander or Humza:

What does additional bandwidth or throughput cost? If the site was to expand and I found myself needing 1000mbits at 2TB/month would that be something you could accomodate?

I didn’t see any detailed specs on emails, would there be any problem in I sent say 40k emails a day out (to people who specifically registered with an easy way to unregister) would that be something you could handle yourself or would I need to use a specific email provider.

There are both for two different ideas, I’d have no problem running servers for each.

    • Jack:

      Hi Phillip,

2TB at 1Gbit isn’t an issue, If you are looking at Seattle you would be probably be looking at $5/TB per month don’t quote me on this!

As for the 40k emails as long as you are CAN SPAM compliance, I don’t think there would be an issue.

I’m sure Alex/Humza will here within the next 12 hours to update you if I am correct or not :).
