LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

[NEW PROVIDER] NFP Hosting Exclusive VPS Offer - 1GB starting at $12/yr.

Hello all! Today we’re happy to feature a new and promising looking provider, NFPHosting.  They were founded back in 2006, their WHOIS is public, and you can find their ToS/Legal Docs here. They accept PayPal, Credit Cards, and Bitcoin.

More about the company:

“NFPHosting.com was founded in 2006 as an e-commerce hosting provider after seeing the lack of hosts who can deliver quality. Throughout the years of learning the ins and outs of running a hosting company, and seeing the opportunities to expand in the marketplace, NFP Hosting throughout the years added additional services to serve a wider variety of markets. NFP Hosting today offers everything the basic consumer looking to start a website may need, all the way up to the advanced (technical) user looking to set up a cluster of servers. At NFP Hosting, there is no waiting around. Services are instantly provisioned, and 24/7 customer support comes standard with our plans. No compromises. No excuses. It’s really as simple as that.
These offers are special because these offer the highest levels of discounts that we have granted on our VPS plans yet, and this is also our first offer to the LowEndBox community! We look forward to serving the community.”

    From the TOS:

    Grounds for Termination:
    * Using the Service to operate server programs, including, but not limited to mail servers, IRC servers, game servers, ftp servers, Web servers, or streaming audio/video servers.

    Resource Usage
    User may not:
*Run stand-alone, unattended server-side processes at any point in time on the server. This includes any and all daemons, such as IRCD.
*Run any software that interfaces with an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network.

    Huh.

    • Hey Zelg, this is in reference to shared hosting, however we can get that modified to be more specific and I absolutely agree with you. These activities are allowed on virtual private servers.

It might be an intersting option provided one could find out how to use it. Cannot run crond, systemd, rsyslogd, exim, nginx, apache, proftpd, not even sshd…

They should sort out the mess in the TOS asap.

      • Hey fruvous and mkv,

I absolutely agree and I’m working on getting the TOS updated now to better distinguish. To clarify, while IRC is prohibited on shared hosting, this is allowed on VPS (virtual private servers) and dedicated servers! Sorry about that guys.

        • Hey Zelg, furious, and mkv

Thanks to your feedback I have gone ahead and implemented your suggestions and updated the website with a simple approach to the Terms of Service.

I don’t like reading jargon myself, and if I’m honest like I’m sure most of you do, I usually scroll right through the terms and conditions with most places, haha! :) I’m not going to waste your time with a typical terms of service with a bunch of words that you don’t understand – so I made it short and sweet, easy to understand with less than 500 words.

The TL; DR of our TOS is – don’t do anything illegal (like child pornography) or disrespectful (such as email spamming or sending DDoS attacks) – and you’ll be fine.

As far as refunds are concerned, its 3 days in the TOS, but as long as you work with us, we’ll work with you, it’s as simple as that. Hey, after all we are people on the other side of the computer screen too!

Thanks again for your feedback guys, if you three want to reach out to me at nathan@nfphosting.com via email I’ll get you a VPS on the house for a month to try out. Thank you for your suggestions.

Any other questions, feel free to shoot my way.

          -nathan.

      September 6, 2017 @ 2:23 pm | Reply
    • Hey Diskman, I believe I found the issue and confusion lies. I went ahead and issued a full refund for you and I’m also keeping your VPS online, on the house for another year, as I do want to apologize for the troubles caused.

To clarify, we are engaging with WHMCS support on this issue, but the serial console that is integrated within our billing portal (portal.nfphosting.com) does not load completely, you will need to access the serial console either via SSH directly into your VM, or via the SolusVM panel.

The login details to the SolusVM panel are mentioned in your welcome email. The serial console functions are fully working within SolusVM.

      Sorry about that Diskman!

Not a problem, we allow VPN and have customers already using their server with us for this kind of purpose.

  10. Hi, one comment: your listings above mention IPv6 support.
Support says you don’t currently support IPv6 and there is no obvious way to configure it.
Not a dealbreaker at the moment, but you might want to modify your offers accordingly so people don’t get mislead.

    September 6, 2017 @ 8:39 pm | Reply
    • Hey PhoneBoy

We do support native IPv6 and one of our newer staff members wasn’t aware, as this option was only recently made available. Open a ticket to get your free 50 IPv6 assigned.

Sorry about the slight confusion/miscommunication there!

      • Jeff Morris:

I also signed up for a VPS today based on the offer posted here, created a ticket to ask for an IPv6 address, and got a response from Jamie that said only “We are working with ipv6 issue. Once issue is fixed we will update asap.” I replied and asked if I could get a ballpark ETA on when this would be available, but haven’t received any response yet.

I realize that $12/year for anything in today’s world is almost nothing, so I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but do you have IPv6 support or not? I need to get this host going. If this is a “we plan to offer it soon but it’s not ready yet” sort of situation, I need to move on, as IPv6 is a requirement for me.

        Thanks Nathan.

    September 9, 2017 @ 10:27 pm | Reply
    • Hey Duc

Great question – right now if you want to run docker, we suggest using one of our KVM VPS plans (or a dedicated server, but those are understandably much more costly). The kernel and distro that we run our nodes on are picked for their production stability. We do stress test newer kernels and distros, however, we find that they are not as stable. We have the same goal as you, but right now, for Docker, KVM or dedicated server is the only option we offer.

      No, you can’t.

Kernel is 2.6.32-042stab124.2 and was EOL’ed more than a year ago. Libc already complains about unsupported kernel version. As discussed below Docker is not supported.

Marketing speech v.s. “Yes, but …”
“Up to date distributions” Yes, but with a way old kernel. This should be clearly marked.
“Are you looking for a Linux VPS that runs virtually any server software”. Yes virtually, but not Docker.

Seems still to be a good offer although I wanted to play more with Docker. Support response times are very good. Thumbs up for that.

Was provisioned instantly, after setting up Console via SolusVM control panel, that enabled SSH and I was able to complete the rest of my server config. Activating the addons requires opening a ticket, but was completed in less than 2 hours from the time I opened the ticket. I cannot stress how much faster this responds than the VPS I had with YourLastHost, despite having lower specs. Good offer, glad that I saw this and was able to switch hosting providers.

Dont get me wrong but I have seen some providers with reasonable price for 1st year only. So @Nathan could you tell us something about subsequent renewals i.e. will you be continuing with such rates or this price is for 1st year only ?

    • Hey Anirban

A price freeze applies on all of these packages, so this is good news for you, the rates will remain the same on subsequent renewals :)

      • Hey kimura,

I just ran a test to an Atlanta test server and the speeds were decent all things considered (LA to Atlanta is across the country).

Could it be that the remote server you’re testing from is saturated? Open a ticket to support, and we’ll be happy to assist.

    • Hey Sam and Philippe,

Our new nodes are getting deployed today. FedEx unfortunately delayed the shipment of our new nodes by two days without stating any particular reason, which caused us to have a backlog of orders these past couple days. We will however be deploying all of these pending orders, and instant activation will resume as soon as we finish the setup of these new nodes.

I went ahead and refunded you guys for now as I don’t want to keep you waiting, but feel free to re-place your order anytime after today and services will be instantly activated :)

If you decide to sign back up, please do send me an e-mail at nathan@nfphosting.com – I will give you guys something extra.

AVOID at all costs. It’s the worst provider I’ve ever dealt with.

first they didn’t deploy my vps until 48 hrs later, when I asked for a refund they partially refunded me and didn’t get full refund. What a rip off and waste of time.

    Avoid at all costs!!!

TLDR; Good fellars, poor overall performance. (LA Servers)

    0) Support: Excellent support, speedy response. Probably the only reason to consider them.

    1) Console Login issue: I signed up a month later hoping they would have some of the issues addressed. Console login still connects and disconnects as Diskman had described in his comments. Two days later, I noticed they had removed html5 console access completely from the config page. I guess this is their solution to fixing the problem. Not having access to the console means I can’t mess around with the network/firewall.

    2) Disk IO. (Tested on 10/25/17 1:30 PM EST)

    $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 127.952 s, 8.4 MB/s

    3) RAM. (Tested on 10/25/17 1:30 PM EST)

    # cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
    30
    $ free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
    Mem: 1.0G 39M 960M 24M 24M 929M
    Swap: 1.0G 96M 927M

    4) Network – Issue with LA Network: After 1Tbps port speed upgrade/addon, the network speed range from 44Mbps to 100Mbps on average. This is 1/10 the speed of other vps providers. I spend a week with their technical department trying to solve the bandwidth issue to no avail.

I bought a VPS from them a few weeks ago but haven’t used it much until now.

Performance is abysmal – download speeds to the north-east seem to max out at 200 KBps, even though I’m on a 100Mbit line.

Likewise, doing simple I/O operations take minutes instead of seconds. If this is standard, I would not recommend.

i am their customer, username deysmacro and i know hands-in-down how well they response to you there.

i am not saying that their service is bad. i am just saying that their customer service is not up to the par in term of their response to you.

I signed up with these guys for the $12 year deal yesterday, 13th May and then decide a day later that I did not want this and requested cancellation. This is based on the words above by Nathan, that there is a 3 day money back guarantee on this deal, “Hi Vijay, we’re extending a 3 day no questions asked money back guarantee on these packages”. I now get an email from a guy Jamie Donati, who says, “In accordance to our terms and conditions, you are not eligible for a refund. Apologies about this!” I feel that I have been SCAMMED! They say one thing on sites like LEB to get the customer, and then ignore what they say when they have your money, in the hope that they can get away with it! Nathan also tells Vijay, “we’re not in the business of taking people’s money if they are not happy with our services.”!!! which seems like a complete JOKE.

    2. 3 VPS – freaking slow
    3. 1 Reseller 2 provisioned VPS – 1 VPS is freaking slow
    4. SSD VPS – Good
    5. Support – Not that good

Or this is just how the service for a cheap VPS’s or it is just over utilized?

These guys WAY oversell, or just have terrible server performance. Been with them about a year, and I’m lucky if I’ve had a few days in that time where performance was usable.

    1) Servers are almost always extremely slow. Loading a simple webpage served from apache or nginx can take a full 5-10 seconds
    2) Panel is down, like, always. I’m trying to reboot my slow and unusable server right now, and the panel has just gone 503 Service Unavailable, again. I’ve been waiting 20 minutes for the panel to come back online so I can reboot my server to get it back online, or less slow, hopefully.
    3) Support is terrible. They always just want to move me to a new server, which means I have to backup and will lose all my data on the old server. Why not just fix the problem?

Don’t use these guys for any serious work. I’ve lost days, if not weeks, of time on projects I’ve wanted to work on and code simply because the server is always unusable and slow every time I try to use it.

It seems you just get bounced around to whatever server is less oversold when you complain.
