LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
No raid on these, maybe lose data anytime :(
@LEA
I’m curious if the designer is even getting payments at this point or if people are just ripping it from each other :P
Francisco
@minhmeo
RAID don’t guarantee your data
@fransisco
I thought you are not in this planet anymore :D
@bekanosky: but i think with Raid, our data will be more safer right?
@minhmeo
yes
The chance of one drive dying is certainly a lot greater than BOTH drives die at the same time, when you talk about RAID1 minimum. All my NAS at home have drives mirrored, and I can’t see people putting live data on anything less (unless you just use the virtual server for proxy/VPN I guess).
@LEA
I’m just wondering if the VPS provider really take care if one of the drives die.
@ Francisco Dias – Well PaytonDesigns claimed he’d sell the design 5 times then stop; but then again, it IS Payton ;)
The template is called HostBlue and it’s still for sale @ $49 at Payton’s website. Maybe this template is popular cause you can integrate WHMCS with it..
WHMCS integration (at least header/footer) is not that complicated.
It’s a nice design though :-) Just overused — but that’s probably Payton’s fault.
Does anyone know of other hosts that use this design? From what I can find on this blog:
Nixcom
WhyNotaVPS
ServerWOW
Just curious.
@AZGuy
I think for an extra $13 Payton will integrate WHMCS to this template, maybe that’s why it’s popular.. also this template is the first search result on google when you do a search for “Payton template” could also be why it’s overused..
We all know that Paytons “unique” designs are not unique, infact many of his designs have ripped graphics.
We are shopping arround for a new website ;) For raid discussion, we are doing a full backup of our node each week. With these prices, we cannot offer an everyday solution for each users. For any concerns, feel free to communicate with us, and if you want a fully managed vps with all premium features, we can have you a quote. :)
Hi. The terms of service on nixcom.ca does not specifically outlaw the usage of IRC. However, the AUP on gtcomm.net states that IRC cannot be used without “the proprer [sic] filtering services.”
Could we get some clarification here? What are proper filtering services?
Thanks.
Hi,
There is the filtering service:
http://www.gtcomm.net/ddos-protection.php
IRC is not allowed in any form
We are working on our new webiste right now, We will never use Payton again.
Proof that Payton is not unique.
Look at his main site.
http://paytondesigns.com
He ever ripped or brought this.
