Nixcom.ca Via this WHT offer. Nix Communications has been in business since 2007 according to the WHT post, and is using that web design template used by a few others previously featured on this blog. It is Quebec, Canada based company, and is offering some cheap Chicago/Singlehop based virtual servers. For $5.95/month you get

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses
  • OpenVZ

These were $9.99/month just over a week ago.

The original owner of LowEndBox known as "LowEndAdmin" or "LEA" for short founded LowEndBox in 2008 and created the concept of hosting applications on low resource "Low End Boxes". After creating the roots of the community that we know today, "LEA" stepped aside and allowed others to carry the torch forward.

I’m curious if the designer is even getting payments at this point or if people are just ripping it from each other :P

  6. The chance of one drive dying is certainly a lot greater than BOTH drives die at the same time, when you talk about RAID1 minimum. All my NAS at home have drives mirrored, and I can’t see people putting live data on anything less (unless you just use the virtual server for proxy/VPN I guess).

I’m just wondering if the VPS provider really take care if one of the drives die.

@ Francisco Dias – Well PaytonDesigns claimed he’d sell the design 5 times then stop; but then again, it IS Payton ;)

The template is called HostBlue and it’s still for sale @ $49 at Payton’s website. Maybe this template is popular cause you can integrate WHMCS with it..

  10. AZGuy:

WHMCS integration (at least header/footer) is not that complicated.

    It’s a nice design though :-) Just overused — but that’s probably Payton’s fault.

Does anyone know of other hosts that use this design? From what I can find on this blog:

    Nixcom
    WhyNotaVPS
    ServerWOW

    Just curious.

I think for an extra $13 Payton will integrate WHMCS to this template, maybe that’s why it’s popular.. also this template is the first search result on google when you do a search for “Payton template” could also be why it’s overused..

We all know that Paytons “unique” designs are not unique, infact many of his designs have ripped graphics.

Hi. The terms of service on nixcom.ca does not specifically outlaw the usage of IRC. However, the AUP on gtcomm.net states that IRC cannot be used without “the proprer [sic] filtering services.”

Could we get some clarification here? What are proper filtering services?

    Thanks.

  16. Hi,

    There is the filtering service:
