Nixcom - $5.99 512MB OpenVZ VPS

Updated October 2011: Martin from Nixcom has decided to terminate the service. See this comment and replied comments for discussions.

Nix Communications Martin from Nix Communications sent me this last week — Chicago based OpenVZ VPS “W512-oLEB1” for $5.99/month (or $16.99/quarter, $31.99/semi-annually). Sign up link here.

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

It is actually very similar to the WHT offers here and here — except you get less disk or less monthly data. You do gain the benefit of instant setup though, and the old WHT offers are no longer available.

We first picked up the issue with their DNS 2 months ago. It’s not just adjacent name servers — where no redundancy is provided. Two out of 4 name servers actually belong to a domain that does not exist (see intoDNS report here). namesrv.ca in this case, where any Canadian can take over the domain and send back mis-leading DNS records regarding to nixcom.ca. Too bad that (1) I am not Canadian, and (2) I am not evil enough. Bwahahaha. Well. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

  1. No redundant DNS as it is the same server as well as the Support Tickets. But luckily their MX pointing to different server and hopefully it will be going to the right point. Some of my finding: –

  2. We never had any dns issues??? For namesrv.ca, this is an issue from our registrar. This is now fixed.
