LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

QuickWeb Exclusive Offers - Xen and OpenVZ VPS

Quick Web Thanks to Joe from QuickWeb who sent me this exclusive offer for LowEndBox readers.

Special Offer #1 — Xen Basic 395 Promo

  • 256MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 300GB/month data on 100MB port
  • Xen

$3.95/month prepaid for 12 months. San Jose CA data center. Order it here.

Special Offer #2 — SPECIAL – 100TB VZ1

  • 256MB guaranteed/384MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 1TB/month data transfer on 1Gbps port
  • OpenVZ

$7/month prepaid for 12 months. Servers are with Softlayer in Texas. Order it here. If you mention “lowendboxdouble” after you sign up (via a support ticket), they will double your monthly data transfer to 2TB!

Two nice cheap offers, and my favourite is probably the Xen VPS, which is rare for this size (256MB) at this price. Quick Web is a New Zealand company and seems to be doing pretty well lately. If you are prepaying for 12 months, you certainly hope the company will out last that! :)

should at least list swap and what raid/disk it is for a FULL YEAR. can’t even bother?

  2. Mike:

    Mine has 256MB RAM and 383MB swap. One X3220 core @ 2.4GHz.

Seriously, though, the hell do you really care? It’s $48/year, don’t expect freaking miracles.

On a VPS, you never ever want to touch the swap space anyway, so IMO that’s a moot point. (Mine is disabled.) And, not to be too terribly cynical, it’s a VPS, you have no way of knowing what the RAID array is made up of, anyway. They could say it was made up of 24 300GB 10K RPM SCSI drives, and you’d never be able to prove otherwise.

    To shut you up, though…

    [root@davidisawanker log]#hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

    /dev/sda1:
    Timing cached reads: 6038 MB in 1.99 seconds = 3028.58 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads: 418 MB in 3.00 seconds = 139.32 MB/sec
    [root@davidisawanker log]#

I’d call the performance perfectly adequate, considering it’s, you know, forty-eight bucks a year.

  3. Great deals! I already have a VPS with Quickweb (512MB for $7.95 monthly – see the forum). I’m really tempted to get the Xen server from this deal just for the heck of it! I could always cancel my 512 if the 256 proved to be enough. Now all I want from Quickweb is a supercheap UK based server :-)

  5. Thanks admin for posting our current promo plans :)

@Mike, the new nodes now have Dual Quad Core Xeon 5420+ gone are the days of single Xeon X3220 (but they are heck of a performer) they are long been sold out :)

  6. Hi just an update after fully reading what’s posted in here. We don’t have employee by the name Mike, we do however have some long time Xen costumers here @ lowendbox by the name Mike, one is DrMike… i’m not sure though if he’s the poster above? by the way we utilize either RAID1 and RAID10 configurations on nodes.

@LowendBox Admin, sure does we are here to stay for time to come, we already have a business roadmap for the next 5 yrs and one of which is build our own (leased space) DC facility here in NZ & hire additional staffs. Our company was founded 2008 and been doing web hosting since 2004 for our local clients (via neodelphi.net).

@Robert, glad you are enjoying our VPS with us, at the moment there’s no plan for UK expansion… we do however have Germany location(OpenVZ).

Joe – I’m just a happy, satisfied customer with a low tolerance for fools.

Gotta wonder about the X3220s having “long been sold out”, though, seeing as my Xen VPS was just provisioned about ten days ago… Maybe I’m just lucky. :)

  8. Hi Mike, hmmm maybe there’s been available space I remember a client request to be transferred to our Softlayer DC so he can use GigE port and huge b/w (OpenVZ) so it might have been picked-up by our auto VPS setup so you end up there, But don’t worry all single proc servers only got 8GB RAM so it’s got descent VPS to node ratio so I/O is sweet!

By the way we are using ksplice for our kernel updates so people can expect great uptime w/out security compromise.

  11. Just to clarify, Mike or anyone else up there is not me. I’m sure that LEB will verify that the IP address and email of the commenter is not from Charlotte, NC. I’m very happy with my Quickweb VPS.

Heh Gotta admit that I logged into my VPS just to see if I could run a hdparm. Appears to not be included with my Debian install.

+1 again for verifying comments or moving over to a Login required system to leave a comment. I hate to suggest it but seems like we get a lot of mysterious comments left here that may or may not be employees or customers of the clients involved. Or at least display the IP or Class C of the commenter.

  12. Hi drmike, sorry to got involved in this, you know when i read mike and lowendbox you’re the first person that comes to my mind :)

Yeah there should be something to verify some poster as this site becomes more popular so fake reviews can easily happen, I always login to post though.

    cheers.

  16. Just bought a $25/3mo SoftLayer VPS and it’s lickety-split fast. Slapped the Ubuntu 10.04 minimal image on there, added Xfce, TightVNCServer, Firefox (for compatibility) and Midori (for speed) and I now have a “webtop in the sky” to play with when I want to, and a very capable low end box when I don’t.

One thing to note is that I also got put on a Xeon 3220 server, but it’s fast anyway. I’ll start complaining if it slows down :p

  17. One more thing: the server provisioned itself pretty much instantly after I ordered. Well done, QuickWeb!

    May 30, 2010 @ 7:51 am | Reply
  18. Hi Ian, welcome to QuickWeb :) yeah we our standard nodes only got 3220 Xeon Quads as we put the extra money on Hardware raid and extra drives for faster i/o which is more critical in VPS node… that CPU performs very well as we only have 12GB RAM configuration which means we do not fit in too many VPS containers in a node…. on a 24-32GB RAM node dual Quad 55xx is necessary as it is expected to be loaded with heaps more VPSes :D

    May 30, 2010 @ 8:07 am | Reply
  19. Makes sense. Was just a little confused about your saying that “we don’t use 3220s anymore” earlier in the comment thread, or something to that affect. To be crystal clear I have no problem sharing a quad-core machine with a pretty darned low number of other VPSes, especially since y’all are giving each server a healthy amount of I/O resources to use. Just needs to be spelled out what kinds of systems folks will be getting…which you’ve done with this latest post quite well.

  20. Hi Ian,

Ah, we are no longer getting X3220 in our Xen VPS Nodes (which isn’t softlayer based by the way) as we started using 24GB RAM configuration which warrants higher processing power (dual Xeons) as it will handle far more number of DomUs (Xen VPS).

On softlayer we are still using X3220s and focuses on i/o since port speed is 1Gps :)

  22. Is Ubuntu 10.04 a standard template for their Seattle OpenVZ package? I found it very hard to find an OpenVZ provider that support Ubuntu 10.04…

    May 30, 2010 @ 10:00 am | Reply
  23. Not sure about Seattle. Dallas definitely has a bare-bones Ubuntu 10.04 distro as an installation option. It starts off with a ~10MB memory footprint once you kill the console-kit-daemon and you can build up from there. Really cool actually.

    @Admin:is this you’re looking for? http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated
there are few ubuntu 10.04 templates in there.

  25. @king — I am more of looking for providers that already have 10.04 on their list. Of all the “low end” providers that I currently use, none of them have 10.04. Probably because of the kernel requirement? As most are still using stable 2.6.18 kernel.

Ubuntu 10.04 and Debian Squeeze are also dropping the hardware node OpenVZ support all together in favor of LXC. Maybe by this time next year we will be featuring low end LXC based VPS (if the control panel developers can get their act together fast enough).
