LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
It seems that this great offer is not valid any more, out of stock.
Bought a dev vps from them. It works great, but it’s sad I can’t buy one more as they’re out of stock…out of luck. :(
Seems I can order now, but the coupons don’t work.
@Shivam — I think the offer is time limited…
They are at wholesale internet in Kansas City, which has some fairly bizzare TOS/AUP policies.
Offer is back with “WHT-20OFF” as coupon code to get the 512MB Xen VPS for $5.99/month.
After seeing the offer here, I got a Xen VPS with them — and it’s been a decent experience. They took a day to provision, and there was some downtime. Debian image didn’t have the xen libc. Xen console goes directly to root shell. Latest Ubuntu is 8.04. HyperVM backup is disabled. Support system is slightly quirky. HyperVM is kinda annoying.
Anyhow, once you get over all that, the hosting is adequate. I would recommend it. Everything that needs to work, works. Great way to get a fast VPS going. Payment is month to month, without contract.
I just hope they stay in business, and don’t screw over the people who are using this offer!
I’ve been with them for a couple months and I’ve been happy with their service. My VPS has been fast and available every time I’ve went to use it. However, I don’t have a monitoring service setup so I don’t know what the real uptime has been.
Their support has been pretty good as well.
Regards,
Jerret
I’ve tested one of their VPS boxes for one month but due to some personal problems I did not stay with them. Anyway, I am still registered as a customer and I received an email from them :

I have decided to close all VPS operations based out of Kansas City(69.197.x.x and 209.x.x.x) and Chicago(38.x.x.x) from 1 August 2009. While this may not be a good news for those who are being affected, however, we’ve been working to improve the infrastructure at St. Louis(206.225.x.x). Please do note that we are not closing the St. Louis operations.

Though you and your readers might like to know that.
We moved our VPS operations to a number of new networks and continue to offer VPS plans to customers and great prices.
The site needs to be updated:
– Still listing specials as summer specials.
– Re: http://www.quillhost.com/xen-vps.php “Order before 31/01/2009 and get free DirectAdmin with all plans except VPS-256!”
WORST HOSTING EXPERIENCE EVER IN MY LIFE!!!
CUSATOMER SUPPORT IS NON EXISTENT!!!
STAY AWAY FORM QUILL HOST!!
They still provide Xen deals, I recently got my second one. Support is sometimes not fast, but the service is pretty robust and fast for the price.
