Rizie - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS

Updated February 2012 — Rizie is closing down according to this comment but they are giving back pro-rata refund so not exactly doing a runner. I guess low end market is no longer beneficial to them.

Rizie Thomas from Rizie has emailed me over the weekend on their new low end box offer. $5/month and here is the ordering link. It comes with

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 60GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

It’s $1/month less than before and you also get 10GB more of disk space. You have option to choose between Scranton PA or Chicago IL when you are in the sign up form, although Thomas did mention that they are filling up Scranton fast. Rizie has been in business since 2005/2006.

I imagine they are using Burst.NET for Scranton, so perhaps you can just ping them.

  4. Ahm, the payment is monthly?

And why I can’t choose Debian as operating system? Debian isn’t the smallest operating system…so it’s a little bit crazy.

    • I think so, but the importener question is: must I pay yearly or can I pay monthly?

      • Monthly. 5 bucks a month, paying each month — which you’ll find out by just clicking through the ordering link.

  6. I have now ordered the vps. And I payed by paypal. Only a few minutes later I had the vps. The speed is perfectly.
But I must test it when I have more time. I chose Scranton, USA.

I found that I could install it on the reinstall OS page, so the first time you bring it up, you can’t choose Debian, but you can on the page where you control the VPS…

        • Yes a few minutes later I wrote that here, I saw it, too :)

But maybe it would be much better, if everyone can choose that on the ordering page.

Are you happy with your Rizie VPS? From Leaseweb I have ~9-10mb/s! And the Ping from Germany is with 100ms+ okay for an USA Hoster.

Sounds like they are only discontinuing their VPS service but shared/dedicated might continue. However they are still having VPS pages on their website so they could have planned abandoning ship…
