My experience with UMax on their cheap OVZ tier has been less than stellar. My machine reboots or powers off on its own often, and sometimes can’t even be reached from the control panel to power on.

After many tickets to support the system stabilized for a while, until recently it started doing it again. Umax opened a ticket on their own saying it seems my system seems unstable and asking whether everything was working. I gave it some time because failures happen at random so I had to give it a window, and the machine started doing the same again, so I replied to the ticket saying in as much, and Umax just closed the ticket with no response.

I just received this offer on my email, and my knee jerk reaction, which I did not act upon, was to write them back to ask them whether this service would work correctly if I got it or if it was just a more expensive way to get the same poor performance.

This is KVM rather than OVZ, but I’m not so sure right now I’d recommend.

I had a bad experience with UMax.

I paid using PayPal (one-off, manual payment) two hours ago. Payment went through on my CC, and I even got an email confirmation of my payment from UMax. But when I log in to the client area, my payment still shows ‘pending’ and I cannot access my VPS. It’s still the same now.

No idea how it’s like paying with CC directly, but this experience gives me zero confidence in relying on their services. Even if I were to pay on time the next cycle, my VPS could still get shut down because of their screw up on their back end.

    You’ve been warned!

    • If it’s already a year then your hope is very tiny.
