VirtualSRV - $2.99 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago

VirtualSRV Not really a new provider, VirtualSRV has been buying our banner ads since April this year and has its domain since end of 2009. However Lorenzo contacted me saying that somehow they were never featured… So here it is. They have some OpenVZ plans and Xen plans on offer. Their most low-end offer, “Vz-128”, is $2.99/month. Here’s the purchase link, and you get

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • 1x vCPU core
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

According to their post on WHT today, you can also use coupon code OpenVZ30 to get 30% off for the first month. Payment with PayPal, credit card or AlertPay. 3 locations to choose from — SingleHop in Chicago IL (test IP: 67.212.179.242), Ubiquity Server in Phoenix AZ (test IP: 108.62.112.12) and Hetzner in Frankfurt Germany (test IP: 88.198.86.209).

Lorenco is based in Italy, also running SysRack, and was operating VZLayer.com as well before, which he sold to Rike Media last November.

Hum, so sounds like your adspots are pretty interesting:

their vps are expensive, in a pretty common location – if they continue to pay for ads it means that people actually subscribe that way.

    Interesting :-)

    • Judging from how much people pay for those ads, the click throughs and how much hosting-related keywords cost at Google AdWords — I’ll say most have got a bargain and I can’t see why they don’t want to continue…

I don’t wonder about that any longer. Most companies featured here from the EU don’t stick to their national law and don’t fulfill the requirements for information based on EU law. So why wonder in this case?

In this case the company can be subjected to a penalty of 258 EUR to 2065 EUR which makes me think that if they doesn’t care about this they aren’t a “serious” business.

Their AlertPay payment is probably bugged, I paid for my very first server and the Invoice kept saying that it’s “Unpaid“. Too bad that this kind of issues is going to have to be manually resolved, and thus I can’t say if they have an automated provisioning system.

This company doesn’t even know where their datacenter is located. Hetzner has two locations in Germany: Nürnberg (Bavaria) and Falkenstein (Saxony). They claim Frankfurt on their website which is in Hessia. So not only a completely different town but also a completely different state.

Whould you trust a company that doesn’t even know where the datacenter is located? Well, I would have my doubts.

  10. Hello all, I’ve purchased a month of VPN (cheapest deal for 2$) and got myself a neat 6-7mbit proxy + Drupal 7.0 running on it. Impressive for the value!! will prolly enroll into couple more months with this host. (using their germany server and a free .tk domain)

The uptime has been pretty good , they’re was a network downtime due to the core router/switch at hetzner died this affected everyone with servers at hetzner so it wasn’t there fault at it was only down for 30 mins ish.

Lorenzo Coco seems to be the only one that replies to tickets. I’m guessing another one man team? If so hes doing a great job.
