Wanted: LEB Tutorial Suggestions

lowendtutorial

Hello all! As you may have noticed, we haven’t posted a tutorial in quite some time. As it turns out, finding good help is difficult. The good news is that we’ve found someone and he’s working on some new content that I’m sure some of you will find useful.

I also wanted to quick open it up and see if there was anything that you’d like to see written. Something you’re stuck on or just don’t have time to figure out – or even something you’ve already found elsewhere that’s outdated.

Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments below and thanks in advance!

Finding good help is difficult? Rubbish.

You just don’t have the budget for it. I heard you wanted to pay $10 per article and sometimes didn’t even pay writers.

I wonder who is still looking for backpay by copying another article from the internet and expecting compensation?

I’d like to see here tutorials that are not published zillion times elsewhere, and go a little deeper into topic. For example some filtering-guide: The best I know is iptables-tutorial published on “frozentux”, but it is not maintained anymore (the last update 10 years ago). Moreover, there are nftables now…

    • The problem with many topics such as IPTables is that there are Linux blog sites that cover these topics already. That is more specific to Linus than it is as a topic for a VPS or hosted servers providers site.

A topic might be “How to decide on a VPS provider”. “How much trouble is it to try a low-cost service and then migrate if the service is unsatisfactory”. “How to scale low-end box services – using cloud service platforms such as Cloudmin/Virtualmin”, “How to set up round-robin/backed-up DNS to multiple/cloud VPS”.

The virtualization platforms such as KVM and Virtuozzo have improved and can be used in conjunction with cloud services from Amazon, Microsoft, Alibaba and others to provide redundancy and higher capacity at low cost. That extends the vision for LEBs to be both a starting point, testing ground, and also a part of a scalable cloud platform that has lower costs than using the typical cloud service providers such as Amazon.

NodeJS on a somewhat-low-end box, with postgresql, php, react.
    other interesting stacks:
    MEAN (mondodb, express, angular, nodejs)
    PEAN (postgresql, express, angular, nodejs).

The idea is to use various stacks for portfolios, or the other use-case is for prototyping.

also comments about bare requirements for each stack would be beneficial.

How about less known proxy / vpn setup, which is more censorship / GFW of CN resistant, like:
    – shadowsocks or v2ray
    – stealthVPN
    – etc

its hard to find on google for an up to date installation and setup.

i use shadowsocks and due to simple documentation, i had to use trial and error to get it running the way i want.

P.S. unrelated suggestion, please add a “>$1/m” or “>$15/yr” tags/ or category to your post. its easier for those, like me, who often need to look for cheap VPSs often
