Quantact.com has been registered since 2003, and according to Wayback Machine they have been providing commercial Linux VPS hosting since at least 2004. They are also one of the first VPS hosts feature here that use a redundant MX record. I guess you really need to know what you are doing to walk the distance in this industry.
And the fact that they also developed their own control panel, QCP, which has integrated backups, DNS/rDNS support, API access, port monitor, OpenVAS vulnerability scanning, private IP address and tun support for OpenVZ right inside the panel. $6.50/month price is good for the life of the VPS, as long as it remains a VS1 or XS1 plan.

We will not use a provider that requires a credit card ever. We manage many, many VPS’s and dedicated servers.
There are too many scammers for that. All you have to do is let your CC number fall into the wrong hands and the unauthorized charges start. Then you have to cancel your credit card and get a new number. No thanks.
It’s silly to say that you need a CC for ID verification purposes. Paypal goes through extreme lengths to establish true identity.

linode & slicehost don’t accept paypal either. paypal charges extra fee’s which is crap.
Maybe I should clarify a bit. Yes we do provide companies like Amazon or Google a credit card number.
But companies that are just getting started can’t expect us to hand out a credit card number to them. Maybe they are just a bunch of hackers collecting CC #’s
As we don’t know them we do not give out a CC# to them. My suggestion to such companies is to stay in business long enough to establish a reputation and then enroll in something like the BBB online program. Meanwhile, use Paypal or Google checkout.
BTW – CC companies charge fees too. It makes no difference – you just include the fee into your monthly charge – not as a separate charge but just all bundled up.
Getting our business is not a matter of shaving a Paypal or credit card fee off the monthly charge. In fact, if I were running LEB I would put the bar at $10 a month.
Our continued business depends on:
A VPS server that allows us to have total control, including kernel builds, all networking, and total lock out of the VPS provider. The only way they can get into our machines is by external means, not through our OS.
Reasonably decent support on issues that we cannot control, like data center, net, Dom0, etc.
A strong and redundant network connection.
All these things are a lot more important than a Paypal fee. I would be interested in hearing about other ways of making payment that don’t involve Paypal or CC#’s. Of course we would also happily use Google checkout instead.
Another word about server control. It’s important to know that your mods, libraries, kernels and etc do not have any malware in them. That’s one reason we insist on total control. If one of our clients got blacklisted because we put them on an infected server we could get sued for lots.
One humorous aside about support. One unnamed vendor provided me with login credentials but I was unable to login to the box. When I entered a support ticket their admin said “we don’t do support on those boxes.”
I had to actually explain to them that providing a box I could actually login to is not support, it is order fulfillment.

Yeah, I wasn’t specifically referring to Quantact. Excuse me if this is specifically a Quantact thread.
We are leery about providing CC’s because of some bad experiences we have had. Some vendors seem to think that after you cancel it’s OK to keep trying to charge your credit card in hopes *apparently* that you wont notice.
With the volume of business that we do on the net that has happened to us scores of times – and not just with server providers either.
We used to be very happy with the Paypal “virtual credit card” that allowed you to charge something with a credit card and then kill the card when you were done. It was still backed up by your regular credit card, but the only one that had your regular CC was Paypal. Unfortunately Paypal ended that program. I wish Google would start such a program. Does anyone else know of a company offering something like that?

Don’t sweat it, I am more paranoid than you about using CC’s on the net. Its too risky. I have never used my real credit card on the web; only virtual ones. :)
The one time I was proud and happy to be in India was when the RBI, (governing bank) made it mandatory for ALL Indian bank issued cc’s to be un-usable on the internet except by creating a one-time-only virtual credit card, or by using something called “verified by visa”-a second authentication mechanism. REALLY AWESOME. I don’t think any country has taken this step, really forward, really useful and really good, the one time I think the government really stepped up.
For others I suggest they try google and see what’s on offer. I think some banks (citi etc) might have some way you can do this.
