LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

GarmanOnline - $5.12 512MB OpenVZ VPS Exclusive Offer

GarmanOnline Patrick G from GarmanOnline really loves the number 512. So he comes with this VPS plan with everything in 512 — at a convenient $5.12/month.

  • 512MB memory
  • 51GB storage (Sorry SolusVM does not like decimals)
  • 1024GB/month data transfer (2x the 512!!)
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

You can order this package from GarmanOnline’s LowEndBox exclusive offer page listing all their specials for the readers here (including their $2/month and $4/month deals). Offers are valid until the end of October. Again, you can read about GarmanOnline here from their previous offers. Their servers are in Chicago I believe, and Patrick has been quite good at providing service. All the best!

Patrick actually sent me this on the 18th, but I have just been pretty busy lately with work so sorry about the delays. I have also managed to move my largest site last night (from Linode & Debian 5 to another provider & Ubuntu 10.04) and spent the entire morning fixing PHP 5.2 → PHP 5.3 issues (gah!! I hate PHP). Need more sleep now.

PS. Yes LowEndBox went down for 2 hours. Nope it wasn’t me. Nope QuickWeb did not stuff up the site either — the box got a memory error and DC has to have it replaced. Downtime sucks, but 2 hour turn around for a memory replacement is pretty impressive.

  5. I can say that Patrick’s 512 plan is very nice. I currently have one thru garmanonline.com and I am loving it. You can’t find a better deal on this VPS. It has the memory resources to run cPanel. The Bandwidth is very nice for a personal VPS. I use this VPS for my personal use and can’t be any happier with it.

  6. Glad to hear you are happy Brian! That reminded me that this LEB could run cPanel if people wanted to, cPanel licenses are available for $9/mo. Now an option via order form.

    • I will be sending you a support ticket to have it added to my account soon. I installed cPanel from source on there now. I am still on the 45 day trial and it will be a full license before to much longer.

  12. @all – seems we were having some issues with live chat, it quit on me during a few conversations. looked like there was no chat activity at all then noticed after a while that the timers for people being on the website were not moving. So it locked up on me. I’ll be going through the history to contact anyone who I missed or dropped out on. SORRY!!

@remember – yes we do allow TUN/TAP, once your order is in just submit a ticket to have it enabled.

  18. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone putting orders in – we will be throwing some more servers into the mix so future orders may not go to Chicago. I will post the new info thing once we know for sure.

      • 100% for sure will have ALL current plans available. Depending on how smoothly things roll out we have two locations we are adding servers to.

        – Data102 (Colorado Springs, CO) – no current ETA right now :(
        – Joes DC (Kansas City, MO) – probably online in a day or two

Joes will probably be online first.
Xen is on the task list – no current ETA right now :(
All plans will be the same, except we are adding Direct Admin for $6/mo

        October 23, 2010 @ 5:45 am | Reply
        • I have used joes for half years and they’re great. Will you have LowEndBox 512 plan on joes servers?

          October 23, 2010 @ 9:05 am | Reply
        • Yep :) all plans including LEB80/256/512

          Keep in mind 512 only lasts until Oct 31. Pay annually for the best deal ($5.12 * 12 * .85 @ 12 months = $4.35/mo — 12 months gets 15% off)

  21. We are aware :(

We have a slight server issue in Chicago currently. Some clients and sites are down. Server needed an old kernel updated and failed an automatic check on reboot. On hand techs are getting it back up as we speak.

    October 24, 2010 @ 3:23 pm | Reply
    • Bright side – we have no planned maintenance any time in the very distant future. SO we will not be rebooting again for quite a while and plan on setting a new uptime record.

      October 24, 2010 @ 3:25 pm | Reply
    • Even brighter – server back online.

Client VPS are all booting back up.

      October 24, 2010 @ 3:27 pm | Reply
      • Good job getting this fixed quickly, although I would appreciate an email notification of planned downtime. I was uploading some large files which will take days to finish due to poor local upstream bandwidth. At least rsync can resume uploads, so it has not caused too much of a problem.

        October 24, 2010 @ 4:59 pm | Reply
        • Sorry for the inconvenience! An email should have gone out the day before… we’ve been having a lot of issues not getting caught in spam filters and are doing what we can to fix that. Next time we’ll make sure there is a very noticable notification in the client area and solusvm control panel as well.

We’re working on a status update page to the site as well so everyone can stay informed.

  22. Just want to post this for any future clients.

Anything torrent related is NOT tolerated. Don’t bother trying to get away with it we will find you and your service will be terminated. I understand that Torrents can be used legally however unfortunately it is for the most part used illegally. Any/all payments will not be refunded.

We regularly scan for anything torrent related… don’t waste your time here and we won’t waste yours :)

    • Donald:

What does “regularly scan for” mean? If I store backups of a machine with rtorrent installed on it in one of your VPSes will my account be terminated?

      October 25, 2010 @ 8:27 pm | Reply
      • Anything torrent related – so yes. No torrent files, no torrent downloading apps, nothing torrent related. We are very firm/strict about this.

If anyone has a legitimate use of torrents – sorry to inconvenience you but unfortunately the bad apples ruined it for everyone.

  24. Quite upset with the service I’ve received so far… I was totally psyched about the server, ordered it over a week ago. Started getting my web app up and running, had a few questions for Patrick and he was VERY FAST to respond. I had emailed him about 10-15 times and literally every time he would respond within 5-15 minutes. He is definitely on top of his support.

My major concern with his service is, he seems like he doesn’t quite understand the technical side of running a Hosting Company.

3 days after I purchased my VPS, the domain still hadn’t resolved… so I sent in a ticket and he told me he would take a look at it. 2 days later, I had no response still, and he started ignoring my emails.

It has been a full 8 days since I bought the server, and my domain still isn’t active. I transferred the domain from GoDaddy the DAY i bought the domain, and I would expect the DNS to propegate within 4 hours, with a MAX TIME of 24 hours. 8 days later, he has ignored my emails regarding this issue.

I told him he can do WHATEVER he needs to do to my server to get the domain online. I have taken full backups of my webserver / applications, and still yet to receive any response whatsoever.

It is quite unfortunate as I really liked the server and he WAS so quick to respond and help out with random questions I had, but when a REAL technical issue appeared, he is nowhere to be found. I would hardly call this a managed VPS, as troubleshooting a domain issue shouldn’t take 8 days, let alone being ignored for the past 4 days.

Other then the tech support, the server is great. I’d recommend his servers to anyone, but warn that this is NOT a managed VPS.

    October 30, 2010 @ 6:22 am | Reply
    • I understand your concerns Peter – and I do apologize for the delays. I have not had a chance to look into your httpd issues yet. And yes this is an unmanaged service – we’ve never once said it was managed. We are unmanaged, but when we have extra time and manpower to put towards issues such as these we try to.

You mentioned above that your domain is not resolving – is this due to DNS issues or your HTTPD configuration? We’ve had many clients before assume signing up with a specific hostname will put that into our DNS, all domains need to manually be entered into our DNS servers via your client area.

Unfortunately the new server in Joes DC is actually not working out well at all – which is taking up almost all our time. Speeds were initially good but with all VPS just idling the max I can get even on the hostnode is about 10 Megabit… NOT GOOD. Which is why I am having a new node built in Colorado where our dedicated offerings are located.

And I am not ignoring your emails – I literally have not had a chance to catch up on them yet.

@Patrick: Sorry, missed this thread after posting. Whenever I try to pay for my invoice, I get an error “Sorry, our billing system is down for maintenance”.

The VPS itself is down, but that might be because I couldn’t pay the invoice. Is this because of some glitch when you migrated the login accounts to a different system? I am surprised I am the only one facing the issue.

    • Can you send your VPS details to support@garmanonline.com. All VPS should be online, and invoices are being migrated but all API’s have been disabled in order to ensure that no VPS are removed due to billing on the old system.
