  1. Wahab:

I have been using one of their other VPS plans for a month now and have no issues to date.

I just ordered this one because its too good of a deal to miss. Got it instantly and live chat was friendly to assist me on some questions. Recommended!

Will play more with the VPS tomorrow, but it seems very responsive to SSH commands as of now!

1GB ram for 6$/month. How it’s possible to not oversell?

    February 17, 2012 @ 4:45 pm | Reply
    • There is a difference between oversubscribing and overloading. 95% of hosting companies likely oversubscribe their servers in order to take advantage of available resources.

The difference is that we actually have technicians onsite 24/7 morning, day, and night (don’t hesitate to test us, email support[at]urpad[dot]net) and we monitor our servers 24/7. We have the proper monitoring channels installed in order to ensure stability across all of our infrastructure.

At the end of the day we can move/upgrade accounts pretty easily if something becomes an issue, however I can assure you we have never kicked a client out for using most or all of their resources in a legitimate manner. You will NOT have a problem utilizing all of the advertised resources in a manner in a legitimate manner.

      Best,
      Kevin

They do oversell and overload, it shows as huge disk hogs which they didn’t fix while I was a client, despite my requests. Although I was on another location, I wouldn’t trust this offer any more than the others.

  4. Hi Vmvps,

I have just updated the WHT thread, unfortunately we sold out on the Seattle & Kansas City locations for this special offer and it’s only available for Dallas, TX at the present time.

We will update our order form with multiple location choices if either location opens up or has free room.

To confirm it is instant setup in Dallas, TX and available for order immediately, we are simply sold out on Kansas City & Seattle and Dallas is available.

    Best,
    Kevin

I’ve used urpad for the past several months and they’ve been very responsive and good to work with.

But just found my outgoing port 25 blocked on my exim server and discovered they have some IPs listed on spamhaus.

Probably they were hit by a spammer but a blanket shutdown of everyone in the datacenter seems a bit inappropriate and pretty damn disruptive.

    February 17, 2012 @ 9:38 pm | Reply
    • Sorry Bob, you are on our Kansas City facility. Our Kansas City upstream provider appears to be blocked in Spamhaus due with a misunderstanding. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

We expect this to be resolved shortly as we are in touch with Spamhaus, they are cooperating with us however they are slow to respond. If this is something urgent, we can migrate you to one of our Seattle, WA or Dallas, TX server nodes but if you can spare to wait a couple days you can stay in your existing location (Kansas City) and it should be resolved by then.

I feel extremely terrible about this, we usually are not like this and we usually never have issues like this, so please let me know if you would like to relocate to one of our Dallas or Seattle nodes, I am confident we can sort this out with you. My direct email is kevin[at]ftnhosting[dot]net please contact me directly and I will work with you.

      Best,
      Kevin

      • Hello Bob-

Just an update, good news your issue is resolved now. The issue has been cleared up with Spamhaus and all Kansas City nodes are all good now. Port 25 is now unblocked and mails should be going through properly at this time.

        Regards, Ethan

    • Hello,

To confirm, Bob’s issue doesn’t affect this offer as his issue is only affecting Kansas City nodes temporarily, this specific offer is in our Dallas, TX facilities.

Speedtest files are entirely too slow.

I even went and tried Limestone’s own speed test files. SLOW!

Not from everywhere though. FDCServers Denver location was quite fast to this speedtest/Limestone – 46.8 MB/s

Tested from colo in Dallas = 2.1M/S

From server in Kansas City = 334K

    Other tests were < 3 M/s

    • Hello-

The test files posted were Limestone Networks’ test files they provide, its possible their website is busy or throttling speed test downloads. Please try this which is a test file we directly host on one of our servers with them.

      Test IP: 63.143.39.34
      Test File (100MB): http://63.143.39.34/100mb.test

Here’s a snippet of the download from one of our servers with 1102GRAND.com in Kansas City:

      ]# wget http://63.143.39.34/100mb.test

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
      Length: 104857600 (100M) [application/x-tar]

Can you please try with the above test file I provided as that is a test file hosted on one of our nodes with Limestone rather than the test file they provide, looking forward to your results and update. Thank you.

      – We do not utilize SAS Drives
      – Why would you want to change IPs..? Are you a spammer?
      – The CPU is shared.
      – We can enable quick backup for you in SolusVM upon request.
      – These VPS’s are unmanaged.
      – Shoot sales[at]urpad[dot]net an email with the offer you would like us to pricematch and we will see what we can make happen.

Regarding FuseVPS we have no affiliation with them, in fact this is the first time I heard about them. It appears they use the same datacenter as us (Limestone Networks), they have similar test IP/file to us because those are the files provided by Limestone: http://www.limestonenetworks.com/datacenter/speedtest.html

Just because they use the same datacenter as us doesn’t mean they are us… that is just like saying Yahoo and MSN are the same owners because they are both search engines…

hrmm… for the most part those look nice!

It must be on the remote server you are downloading on that is being overloaded or having issues because I downloaded the test file from my Burstnet (which is Scranton, Pennsylvania) server and got over 9MB/s which is very good result. Stop blaming Urpad when you even told us you are not even a customer :D I`m having this VPS and another one with Urpad for some time now and never had speed issues.. and whenever I had querys support was vry fast to help.. cheers…!

    Now, now…

At least this offer is on a different network. Price isn’t bad either.

Network though is suspect. Sure it works, but peering and/or upstream connectivity does have something less than optimal going on.

Funny thing is, the facility’s own speed test files are really slow and that’s what was originally posted. Odd to have a facility performing so poorly on test files that everyone know folks test first and are a big part of the decision process.

Maybe providers will start posting their own download files and stop the facility’s own speed tests.

I’d love to support every provider with my business. Clearly, due diligence requires network tests, traceroutes, speed tests, etc. No one should be upset with the results.

    • Hello-

It’s possible other people were downloading Limestone’s speed test file the same time you were, they are a pretty popular provider. I agree with you that we shouldn’t have provided Limestone’s test IP/file, however in my above comment, I have already provided LEB with test IP/files hosted on our servers under our control directly. Maybe an administrator of the website can update the article to include this information:

      Test IP: 63.143.39.34
      Test File (100MB): http://63.143.39.34/100mb.test

    • Hello-

Our servers are 100Mbps, no where did we advertise 1Gbit and we wouldn’t provide 1Gbit for $5.99/month that is completely unsustainable.

The result you posted is very good (11.1MB/s) that is nearly maxing out the 100Mbps port.

      Regards, Ethan

Wow, this should be a very strange explanation to make me more confused. Just take a look at this post, easeVPS. and guess what? I have a very powerful computing resource at easeVPS, right?
I am not sure what the visualization you are running on but the way you sum up the speed of independent cpu cores is what I ever know.

        • Hi Ray,

That’s because they do not cap your CPU utilization, we do this in effort to protect our nodes, for example an abuser taking down other VPS neighbors in the same server node, this is a common practice in the industry. Each company has different policies and each company runs things differently. I have interacted with Jacob a few times and he seems to be a decent individual however you must understand that we are NOT easevps we are URPad.

You have to realize that you are receiving 4 CORES at 950 MHz each, which equals to 3800 MHz (3.8 GHz) which is MORE than enough for the average user.

Never did we say we are not willing to unlimit this, it does depend on the situation, if you have a valid reason as to why you require more allocation as I said contact us via a support ticket, we are very flexible to work with.

          Best,
          Kevin

        • Hi Jack,

So his easevps is one core at 3.40 GHz correct?

If that is the case then he is still receiving more CPU allocation with us across 4 cores not sure why he is complaining.

          Jack,
          Thank you for your concern.
However, that depends on the plan, not sure yours and mine are the same.
My issue is just not to get a vps for myself. I will send in a ticket and, hopefully not post back here because of any cancellation.

        • I guess we must be the first provider you used Ray, that gave out 4 CPU cores equally. Most of our customers prefer this type of setup as everything is divided evenly and they receive full utilization of the 4 CPU Cores, but at the same time we are not strict on this like other companies, we are willing to work around your needs if you provide valid reasoning.

I have just responded to your ticket, no further communication regarding this issue will be posted here as LEB is not our helpdesk, additionally I’m not sure what you’re expecting LEB to do for you as we are the only ones with access to our servers. Thanks!

Regarding your above question, I absolutely expect LEB for nothing, I just learn from LEB. Don’t you see LEB becoming a good VPS information resource because of such posts, do you?
Regarding your inquiry, yes, I did test all my VPSs for every k-core case, k=1,..,n to have solid results. I therefore concluded what I did send you, QED.
I am very good at math :), I am just not sure why the 6-month basis payment is best for your stuff. Anyway, I am happy to know you. :)

    Back on topic,

When i used urpad the server was speedy , only issue i had was I/O @ 38MB/s but i was told 30MB/s + was acceptable for budget VM’s.

    So I would recommend them.

I am a client of urpad.net and have VPS nodes in dallas, los angeles and newyork. Here is a brief overview of my opinions of this company.

My first issue: I ordered my first vps in the dallas location. This server was SLOW as all get out. I requested the server to be moved to a different node in the dallas location via a support ticket. I was told I was being transferred blah blah blah and anyway after over 24 hours of waiting the issue got resolved. I will piggy back more on the support later.

Second issue: I acquired a server in the newyork location and didn’t like the server or the specific location it was in. Wasn’t a day after I ordered I inquired about getting my VPS for this location refunded and credited towards my account. Kevin responded to me very bluntly and pretty much said I agreed to the terms and the terms say no refunds. Now this was after I was transferred from one department to another through their ticket system and after my horrendous wait to have my dallas node moved to a different server. I understand they can’t refund everyone that doesn’t like their vps’ but hey, I figured I have multiple VPS’ and they had a slow response with my last problem so they might cut me some slack. They didn’t.

Thirdly is their support: They claim they have a 30 minute response time, which they do. Their 30 minute response time is this guy named Dylan that answers everyone of my tickets but never solves them or even answers them. What this guy does is transfers them to a different department, which can take hours and hours to get a response from. Their online chat is the EXACT same way, I attempted using this to gain support about relatively easy issues and was asked “are you a client” and when I said yes I was told to put in a ticket. I found myself lying and telling them no just to gain support.

All in all I wish urpad was the right place for me. All I asked was for a measly $5.99 credited to my account for a server I wasn’t satisfied with and they couldn’t help me. Support is pretty horrid in my experience but I guess you get what you pay for pans out for this situation. I am still a client with urpad at this time.

    • By the sounds of it, your not happy with our service, so why are you still with us? :) This puzzles me.

You kept submitting sales/billing requests into the support department, which was why Dylan or another technician might of forwarded/transferred it to a different department. Why would we hire a tech just for forwarding tickets, your assumption makes absolutely no sense. Its because you submitted billing issues into the support department, which is extremely unprofessional and doesn’t allow us to streamline our work flow. Try submitting a ticket to support with an actual technical question, not a billing issue if you wish to test our techs… that’s what “Techs” are for.. “technical” support NOT “billing” support.

Sounds like your unhappy with us because you failed to comprehend and read our TOS. Sorry it has to be this way, wishing you the best in the future.

      Best,
      Kevin

Don’t fault a company for following their own Terms of Service. As for the support ticket response times, keep in mind these are LEBs. Anything less than 24 hours for a non urgent ticket (such as a VPS downtime) is perfectly fine.

Just ordered one in New York, its the closest location to me personally. Got the details in my email instantly after I ordered.

Server performance seems to be very good, and Dennis from tech support was fast to enable some modules on my box. To be precise, they enabled the modules in 7 minutes after I sent in the ticket, not too shabby at all considering its about 2AM and a weekend.

Keep up the good work Urpad.

  52. I agree with you there Curtis. Today, I have been with them for exactly 2 Months and I am still a very happy customer.

Here is a quick run down

Support: 10/10 (Phone support is very helpful, email/ticketing is also very fast and detailed)

Server Performance/Speed: 9/10 (This would be 10/10 if they were 1Gbit, they have 100Mbit but its a $6 VPS so its reasonable enough)

Sales Support: 10/10 (Kevin was very helpful when I called in for upgrade/addon questions)

As long as this quality service continues and I remain happy, you have just gained a customer for life guys. Thanks!!!

  59. Their details and specs look very attractive, but I would suggest staying away from them. Non-existent customer service, poor attitude as others have noted, premature closure of tickets with no solutions, poor refund policy. There are many choices out there, some with much more technically interested folks.
