Sorry to harsh your summer buzz, but that Verisign announcement from back in February that you briefly grumbled about and then forgot because it was in the future is now relevant. As of September 1, your .com costs are going up.
Well, unless you have an incredibly charitable registrar. Which you don’t. You don’t buy directly from Verisign so here for example is how NameSilo, a popular community registrar, is reacting:
Ouch. That’s a 10.7% jump. Unless you’re living in Zimbabwe, inflation isn’t nearly that bad.
But wait, you say! You thought ICANN only allowed Verisign to increases by 7% each year for the next 3 years, so how can they get away with 10.7%?!?
That’s because that’s wholesale. NameSilo (and others) are increasing their fees by in excess of what Verisign is charging them.
So watcha gonna do? Stick with NameSilo because it’s a hassle to move, or find another registrar that isn’t increasing as much, or…? Let us know in the comments below!

Already moved them all when NameSilo warned of the hike.
Cloudflare seems to give the best .com price, $8.03 ($7.85+$0.18 ICANN fee), but would love some tips here if anyone knows of anywhere cheaper.
One downside to Cloudflare is you are forced to use them as your DNS provider, which I’m not crazy about but works in most circumstances.

You don’t care about 1 dollar for a single domain. 100 domains is 100 USD, i’m holding about 250+ domains mostly for resale purposes, that 250 USD.
The price increase is too much.
