RAM Host - $4.99 128MB OpenVZ VPS

RAM Host Via this WHT offer. Looks like RAM Host has updated their VPS hosting plans again. You can now get their Micro VPS pacakge for $4.99/month although you have to prepay for 3 months. You get

  • 128MB guaranteed/192MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 350GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ with custom panel

They are running Linux kernel 2.6.26 so I guess probably Debian 5 based host nodes. Servers are in Kansas City, and you can actually see how each of their servers perform on their status page — talking about transparency from hosting providers! They have also been getting quite a few very good reviews when you google them. Certainly look like a well run company.

  1. 他们好像现在不提供7天试用了?这个月买了3个VPS了.没钱再买.
    准备试用下,如果不错就下个月买.
    另外他们的IP也比较贵..1.49美元一个~
    不过好评很多.想试试

OK, I think what Cat is saying is that it’s a pity that they don’t offer a trial, as he bought 3 VPSes last month so he’s out of cash. If they offered a trial and they proved good, he’d get one next month. Also, they charge more for additional IPs.

However, I was using GT for the translation so who knows how accurate it was :P

  3. Yup. Looks like Google Translation is doing a pretty decent job. I do feel bad now for making someone broke because he bought 3 presumably low end VPS this month :)

  4. It’s Christmas. You guys should chip in and buy him one. :)

I’m surprised about the status page. Not that they have one but how they offload MySQL and other processes. I would think that would decrease the load on your own processes and memory usage. That would be a plus, right? Or do those offload processes still count against the allowed amount?

  5. I think that’s the status for their shared hosting server. They are all on the same box actually if you look at the IP address. From the number of servers it looks like their VPS packages are much more popular than their shared hosting ones.

  6. I’m using this plan right now actually. It’s been good for a month so far. The only downtime is when I reboot. I’ve got 4 domain names hosted too. Interface is a little ugly and a pain adding multiple dns entries, but works fine. http://www.intodns.com/georgeloo.com

  7. Yes, our vps are significantly more popular than our shared hosting.

And yes, we are running Debian 5 on the host servers (we prefer it and it also allows us to offer ArchLinux vps’s since they require a newer kernel than the de-facto 2.6.18 most everyone else is using).

And 4 dns servers in 4 datacenters surely passes the dodgyness test :D

Thanks for another quality posting – and for the positive feedback ;)

  8. Hi everyone.

I’ve just moved two of my sites to RamHost.us Nano VPS plan.

Setup took place several hours after payment, but this is due to I live in different part of the world, where daylight in my place is nighttime in theirs.

Their server is fast and when I bump into problem, they are very responsive and helpful. I believe I’m in good hands now.

  9. RAM host is like very pro! I have an older micro plan, but when I last checked I did got the new (higher) bandwith :D
Also, their support is very fast, and if the servers are going down for a reboot or so, they post it a few weeks before. And they are very open to their customers when for example a server is down, there is always a report of it. A friend of mine is also @ ramhost, and he is also very positive.

  10. RAM Host just rocks! I’m using custom VPS plan from that company (Kansas City datacenter, 176Mb guaranteed / 320Mb burstable) and I’m very happy with it. They just don’t fail epicly like other ISPs ;)
